Staphylococcus aureus intra-mammary infection affects the expression pattern of IL-R8 in goat

IL-1R8 is a member of Interleukin-1 receptor family acting as a negative regulator of inflammation reliant on ILRs and TLRs activation. IL-1R8 role has never been evaluated in acute bacterial mastitis. We first investigated IL-1R8 sequence conservation among different species and its pattern of expression in a wide panel of organs from healthy goats. Then, modulation of IL-1R8 during natural and experimental mammary infection was evaluated and compared in blood, milk and mammary tissues from healthy and Staphylococcus aureus infected goats. IL-1R8 has a highly conserved sequence among vertebrates. Goat IL-1R8 was ubiquitously expressed in epithelial and lymphoid tissues with highest levels in pancreas. IL-1R8 was down-regulated in epithelial mammary cells following S. aureus infection. Interestingly it was up-regulated in leukocytes infiltrating the infected mammary tissues suggesting that it could represent a target of S. aureus immune evasion.     

Disposition of fenbendazole in the goat

The disposition of fenbendazole was studied in goats after oral or IV administration. Plasma concentration vs time profiles were determined for fenbendazole and all of its metabolites. The total excretion of the drug and its metabolites in urine and feces was also measured for 6 days. A biliary cannula was inserted in 1 goat to study the excretion of fenbendazole and its metabolites into the bile. Fenbendazole was converted to its sulfoxide (oxfendazole), and the sulfone, primary amine, and p-hydroxylated metabolites. The active metabolite, oxfendazole, appeared in plasma, but only trace amounts were found in feces or urine. The major excretory metabolite was p-hydroxyfenbendazole.     

波尔山羊杂交改良萨能山羊和本地山羊试验报告

用波尔山羊冷冻精液与萨能山羊、浦江本地山羊杂交，杂一代羊体尺、体重有较大幅度提高。波萨山羊比萨能山羊6月龄体高、体长、胸围分别提高8．05％、7．95％、8．24％，初生重、6月龄重分别提高12．08％、20．53％，差异显著。波本山羊比本地山羊6月龄体高、体长、胸围分别提高22．85％、22、75％、18．42％，初生重、6月龄重分别提高41．53％、79．43％．差异极显著。每只波萨山羊比萨能山羊增加收入41．30元。每只波本山羊比本地山羊增加收入95．40元。     

布奶杂交一代山羊生长发育及产肉性能试验研究

选择同期出生的布奶一代和当地奶山羊公羔各３０只，分两组观测生长发育情况；周岁时每组随机选取６只进行屠宰，测定产肉性能。结果表明：布奶一代具有极显著的杂种优势，周岁时体重达到４６．５ｋｇ，比奶山羊高１１．２５ｋｇ，平均产净肉１８．４３ｋｇ，比奶山羊多５．９１ｋｇ。     

Biological half-life of oxytocin in the goat

The disappearance of oxytocin from the peripheral circulation of the goat after a single intravenous injection followed a biexponential curve. The mean (+/- SD) half-life, calculated from the slower component of this decline, was 22.3 +/- 0.6 minutes. The volume of the central compartment was about twice the volume of the vascular compartment and the total apparent volume of distribution was more than twice the size of the extracellular compartment.     

Dehorning the mature goat

Surgical techniques for dehorning the mature goat utilized combinations of sedation and local anesthesia. Numerous factors were considered before surgery was performed. Use of Barne's calf dehorners, tube-type calf dehorners, and elastrator bands are contraindicated in the goat due to the anatomic structure of the frontal sinus. Dehorning female goats late in gestation can induce aboriton; male goats used for breeding should be dehorned well in advance of the breeding season. Owners should be advised that dehorning can be temporatily debilitating to the goat and can alter a goat's social status within a herd.
