Polycystic kidney disease in a cat   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Bilateral polycystic kidney disease was diagnosed in a 3-year-old female Persian cat. An elevation of blood urea nitrogen, serum creatinine levels, and serum phosphorus were the only abnormalities found with serial serum chemical and urine analyses. Intravenous urography showed radiolucent areas in both kidneys. An attempted renal biopsy produced only fluid but no kidney tissue. Necropsy and histological findings confirmed a diagnosis of polycystic kidney disease.  相似文献

A domestic shorthair cat presented with a progressive history of polydipsia, lingual swelling and ulceration. The tongue was firm and grossly enlarged with associated regional lymphadenopathy. Surgical biopsies revealed lymphoma of the tongue. Following the procedure, the cat developed respiratory distress and was subsequently euthanased. Necropsy confirmed the diagnosis of lingual lymphoma and also identified lymphoma within the left kidney. This is the first report of lymphoma within the feline tongue in the literature.  相似文献

Polycystic kidney disease in a family of Persian cats   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
A 6-year-old Persian cat was determined to have polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Because of 3 previous clinical reports of PKD in Persian cats, the offspring were examined by use of ultrasonography, which provided evidence of PKD in 3 of the 4 offspring. Because of the genetic transmission of this disease, breeders should be advised not to breed PKD-positive Persian cats.  相似文献

A lethal congenital polycystic kidney disease (PCKD) has been known in lambs in New Zealand for more than 50 years and assumed to be genetic in origin. We have studied this in lambs from an experimental mating in a flock experiencing an outbreak the previous year. Two Perendale rams identified by DNA profiling (SignaGen) as sires of PCKD lambs were each mated to the other's daughters. From 71 such matings, 10 ewes gave birth to 15 PCKD lambs of both sexes. The results are in accord with those expected for a recessive autosomal trait. All lambs were dead or died shortly after birth. Their abdomens were distended by enlarged kidneys 40–140 mm in length. Their cut surface showed a multitude of cystic spaces 1–5 mm in diameter in both the cortex and medulla. Livers of affected lambs showed complex tubular and cystic patterns of bile ducts containing bile, and supported by an excess of fibrous tissue. Cystic changes also occurred in the pancreas and salivary glands.  相似文献

Abstract Thirty percent of 60 goldfish in an outside pond showed progressive development of swollen abdomens and floatation problems. The occasional fish was found dead. Necropsy of an affected fish showed an abdomen almost filled with a large bilobed ventral mass comprised of masses of cysts filled with clear fluid. On histopathological examination, this mass appeared to be composed of large cystic spaces lined by a single flattened epithelium. Occasional remnants of normal kidney tissue were seen withen the mass.  相似文献

A bilateral conjunctival neoplasm was surgically removed from a 13-year-old Domestic Short-haired female cat and examined by histopathology. The neoplasm was infiltrative, nonencapsulated and composed of large sheets of densely packed, round to polygonal cells. Neoplastic cells were variably sized with scant to modest amounts of cytoplasm and oval to round nuclei. On immunohistochemistry the neoplastic cells stained positively for BLA.36 and negative for CD-3 antibodies. On the basis of histopathology and immunohistochemical findings, a diagnosis of conjunctival B-cell lymphoma was made. This is the first case with immunohistochemical characterization of conjunctival lymphoma in a cat.  相似文献

Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is an inherited autosomal kidney disease which is most commonly identified in Persian and Persian related cats. Positive cats have multiple cysts of various sizes that occur in the renal cortex and medulla and occasionally in other abdominal organs. PKD often leads to renal failure which occurs from mid to late in life. Renal cysts can be diagnosed ultrasonographically after 7 weeks of age by an experienced ultrasonographer and a high resolution machine. However, ultrasonography is now being replaced by genetic screening. A total of 340 cats of variable breeds aged from 5 months to 18 years were ultrasonographically examined in the past 7 years at the University Veterinary Small Animal Clinic. Of these, 13.8% were PKD positive with very high prevalence in Persian cats (36%). There was no sex predilection identified. The C>A transversion at position 3284 on exon 29 of PKD1 gene, resulting in a stop mutation has been identified in the heterozygous state in eight affected cats examined (Persian breed). All heterozygous cats were also ultrasonographically positive.  相似文献

A seven-year-old female spayed Domestic Short-haired cat was brought for examination following a four-month history of conjunctivitis in the right eye. The superior palpebral conjunctiva was diffusely swollen and firm, displacing the right globe ventrally and preventing full closure of the eyelids. The right popliteal lymph node was enlarged as were several other peripheral lymph nodes. An incisional biopsy of the conjunctival swelling revealed a lymphoid neoplasm, the cellular make up of which suggested features of feline Hodgkin's-like lymphoma. Although the neoplasm was poorly responsive to standard chemotherapeutic protocols for lymphoma, radiation therapy rapidly reduced its size. Three years following the initial diagnosis, there has been no recurrence of the conjunctival neoplasm. To the authors' knowledge, there are no previous reports of extranodal or adnexal (conjunctiva, eyelid, orbit) Hodgkin's-like lymphoma in the veterinary literature.  相似文献

Chlorambucil is an alkylating agent commonly used in veterinary oncology for conditions including lymphoma. Chlorambucil neurotoxicity has been well recognized in human patients. Onsets of central nervous system signs, such as myoclonus, tremors, muscular twitching, agitation, and tonic-clonic seizures, have been reported in humans and laboratory animals treated with chlorambucil. This case of a cat with intestinal lymphoma represents the first veterinary patient reported to have chlorambucil-induced neurotoxicity. Neurotoxicity should be considered a potential side effect of chlorambucil therapy in veterinary patients.  相似文献

The prevalence, mode of inheritance and urinalysis findings in Bull Terriers with polycystic kidney disease were assessed by screening 150 clinically normal dogs. The disorder was diagnosed in 39 dogs on the basis of renal ultrasound results and family history of the disease. In equivocal cases confirmation required gross and histopathological renal examination. Necropsy was performed on nine affected dogs and the kidneys from another five affected animals were also examined. Renal cysts were usually bilateral, occurred in cortex and medulla and varied from less than 1 mm to over 2.5 cm in diameter. Cysts were lined by epithelial cells of nephron origin. Abnormal urine sediment and proteinuria were common in affected dogs. The disease appears to be inherited in a highly penetrant autosomal dominant manner.  相似文献

Cystic renal disease is rare in dogs and although infected renal cysts have been reported in humans, no report could be found in dogs. A 58 kg, 5-year-old, castrated, male Boerboel presented with weight loss, pyrexia, lethargy and vomiting, 20 months after an incident of haematuria was reported. The initial ultrasonographic diagnosis was bilateral multiple renal cysts of unknown aetiology. The cysts had significantly increased in size over the 20-month period and some contained echogenic specks which could be related to infection, normal cellular debris or haemorrhage. In both kidneys the renal contours were distorted (the left more than the right). The abnormal shape of the left kidney was largely due to multiple cysts and a large crescent-shaped septate mass on the cranial pole of the kidney. Aspirates of the septate mass were performed (left kidney) and the cytology and culture were indicative of an abscess. It is suggested that the previous incident of haematuria provided a portal of entry for bacteria into the cysts resulting in renal cortical abscess formation.  相似文献
