The films produced from pure starch are brittle and difficult to handle. Chemical modifications (e.g. cross-linking) and using a second biopolymer in the starch based composite have been studied as strategies to produce low water sensitive and relatively high strength starch based materials. A series of corn starch films with varying concentrations (0-20%, W/W) of citric acid (CA) and carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) were produced by casting method. The effects of CA and CMC on the water vapor permeability (WVP), moisture absorption, solubility and tensile properties were investigated. The water vapor barrier property and the ultimate tensile strength (UTS) were improved significantly (p < 0.05) as the CA percentage increased from 0 to 10% (W/W). At the level of 15% (W/W) CMC, the starch films showed the lowest WVP values (2.34 × 10−7 g Pa−1 h−1 m−1) and UTS increased from 6.57 MPa for the film without CMC to 16.11 MPa for that containing 20% CMC.  相似文献

In this study, polyurethane films were prepared using starch as the main polyol component, and the mechanical properties of these films were investigated. The starch content of the polyols was 30–50 wt%. To confirm the formation of a urethane linkage between the −OH of starch and −NCO of toluene 2,4-diisocyanate, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopic analysis was performed. Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) thermograms of the polyurethanes resulted in two endothermic peaks, which shifted to higher temperatures with increasing starch content and −NCO/−OH molar ratio. Due to the melting behavior of polyurethane, films could be prepared by hot pressing at an appropriate temperature. Polyurethane films were prepared with various polyol starch content and −NCO/−OH molar ratios. Tensile testing indicated that the breaking stress and elastic modulus increased significantly with starch content and −NCO/−OH molar ratio. In addition, bending tests indicated an increase in breaking stress and bending modulus with starch content and −NCO/−OH molar ratio and decreased breaking strain. The strain rate in both tensile and bending tests had a significant effect on the mechanical properties.  相似文献

The effect of feed moisture content (10, 14 and 18%) and die temperature (110 and 160 °C) on functional properties, specific mechanical energy (SME), morphology, thermal properties, X-ray diffraction pattern (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and amylose-lipid complex formation of extruded sorghum flour was investigated. Results showed that the extrusion cooking significantly changed the functional properties of extruded sorghum flour. Increasing feed moisture increased the peak gelatinization temperature (Tp), the degree of gelatinization (%) and starch crystallinity (%) while it decreased the gelatinization temperature ranges (Tc - T0), starch gelatinization enthalpy (ΔHG) and amylose-lipid complex (%) formation. With increasing die temperature, the degree of gelatinization and amylose-lipid complex formation increased and the starch Tp, Tc-T0, ΔHG and crystallinity decreased. The FTIR spectra also showed that the extrusion cooking did not create new functional groups or eliminate them in sorghum protein, whereas the sorghum extrudate protein had random coil conformation.  相似文献

Wheat gluten is an inexpensive protein derived from mill industries with good film forming properties, which allows producing semipermeable membranes able to slow down water migration in foods. The first objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of the incorporation of a lipid phase (25 wt%, dry basis) in wheat gluten on the functional properties of the film, such water sorption, surface hydrophilicity, water barrier properties, mechanical properties and thermal properties. The second one was to asses if such incorporation was able to reduce the water sensitivity of film mechanical properties.Findings clearly showed that the incorporation of a lipid phase was able to decrease the water sorption, water affinity (hydrophilicity) and water transfer (≈2 times) of wheat gluten films. Moreover, mechanical properties are also affected by the lipid addition with a decrease in rigidity and, at high aw, an increase in extensibility. However, the sensitivity of the mechanical properties to water was not modified. Lastly, DSC (Differential Scanning Calorimetry) analysis proved that changes in mechanical properties of films as a function of hydration state were the consequence of glass transition depletion, which allowed them to turn from a glassy-like behavior to a rubber-like behavior.  相似文献

Nanocomposite of polyurethane (PU), Nylon66 (nylon), and montmorillonite (MMT) was prepared by a twin screw extruder, and the dispersion of MMT and the mechanical properties of the nanocomposite were analyzed. Dimethyl hydrogenated tallow 2-ethylhexyl ammonium modified Cloisite 25A (C25A) and methyl tallow bis-2-hydroxyethyl ammonium modified Cloisite 30B (C30B) were used as MMT. XRD and TEM analysis indicated that the continuous melt mixing by a twin screw extruder was effective in MMT dispersion. C30B having hydroxyl group on its surface has better dispersion than C25A in the PU/nylon matrix. Maximum stress and strain at break were the maximum at 1 wt% MMT regardless of matrix composition, and decreased at higher MMT content. Best MMT dispersion was also observed at 1 wt% MMT for the entire matrix composition. Aggregation of MMT occurred at MMT content higher than 1 wt%. Nylon addition also induced the aggregation of MMT because of the high polarity of nylon surface. Dispersion of MMT was very important in improving the mechanical properties of PU/nylon nanocomposite.  相似文献

Composite films were prepared by casting the solution of polyacrylonitrile (PAN) and single wall nanotube (SWNT) in DMF subsequent to sonication. The SWNTs in the films are well dispersed as ropes with 20–30 nm thickness. Moreover, AFM surface image of the composite film displays an interwoven fibrous structure of nanotubes which may give rise to conductive passways and lead to high conductivity. The polarized Raman spectroscopy is an ideal characterization technique for identification and the orientation study of SWNT. The well-defined G-peak intensity at 1580 cm−1 shows a dependency on the draw ratio under cross-Nicol. The degree of nanotube orientation in the drawn film was measurable from the sine curve obtained by rotating the drawn film on the plane of cross-Nicol of polarized Raman microscope. The threshold loading of SWNT for electrical conductivity in PAN is found to be lower than 1 wt% in the composite film. The electrical conductivity of the SWNT/PAN composite film decreased with increasing of draw ratio due to the collapse of the interwoven fibrous network of the nanotubes with uniaxial orientation.  相似文献

A series of polyurethane (PU)/monmorillonite (MMT) or nylon 66/MMT nanocomposite were prepared by melt-compounding method to take a close look at the MMT dispersion in the nanocomposite depending on the polymer matrix and the compatibilizer content. Cloisite 30B, the brand name, was selected as MMT, because surface was covered with methyl tallow bis-2-hydroxyethyl ammonium group and the reduced surface hydrophilicityity rendered MMT dispersed better in polymer matrix compared to bare MMT. MMT dispersion, due to the difference in hydrophilicity and the fondness of similar hydrophilicity, was better in nylon than PU. Maximum stress and tensile modulus could be increased by the control of MMT content for both nylon and PU, and the compatibilizer, when added at the same MMT content, also could increase the tensile properties of both nylon and PU. It was found from this investigation that the good dispersion of MMT in polymer matrix can improve the mechanical properties of nanocomposite.  相似文献

This paper presents the results of a current study on polypropylene matrix composites processed by injection, with two different glass fiber lengths and five different volume fractions. Physical and mechanical properties were obtained, namely flexural strength, stiffness modulus and fracture toughness. The mechanical properties of the composites increased significantly with the increase of the fibers volume fraction in agreement with the Counto model. The effect of water immersion time was also analysed. Immersion in water promotes a marked decrease in mechanical properties in the early seven-ten days, and afterwards tends to stabilize. Water causes a decrease of the relative strength which increases with fiber volume fraction and reaches about 29 % and 32 % for 20 % of 4.5 mm fiber length and for 25 % of 12 mm fiber length respectively, after 28 days immersion in water. Fracture toughness increases with fiber volume fraction and is always higher for 12 mm fiber length composites than for 4.5 mm fiber length composites.  相似文献

Natural rubber and styrene butadiene rubber (NR/SBR) reinforced with both short nylon fibers and nanoclay (Cloisite 15A) nanocomposites were prepared in an internal and a two roll-mill mixer by a three-step mixing process. The effects of fiber loading and different loading of nanoclay (1, 3 and 5 wt. %) were studied on the microstructure and mechanical properties of the nanocomposites. The adhesion between the fiber and the matrix was improved by the addition of a dry bonding system consisting of resorcinol, hexamethylene tetramine and hydrated silica (HRH). This silicate clay layers was used in place of hydrated silica in a HRH bonding system for SBR/NR-short nylon fiber composite. Nanoclay was also used as a reinforcing filler in the matrix-short fiber hybrid composite. The cure and scorch times of the composites decreased while cure rate increased when the short fiber and nanoclay were added. The mechanical properties of the composites showed improvement in both longitudinal and transverse directions with increasing short fiber and nanoclay content. The structure of the nanocomposites was characterized with X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM). X-ray diffraction results of nanocomposites indicated that the interlayer distance of silicate layers increased. The mechanical properties of nanocomposites (tensile, hardness and tear strength) are examined and the outcome of these results is discussed in this paper.  相似文献

The phase behavior of zein films has been investigated at nano-scale using atomic force microscopy (AFM) and compared to the phase behavior of the bulk using a thermal characterization technique. The local surface properties of the films were evaluated as a function of water activity using AFM. The glass transition temperature (Tg) of zein films decreased with increasing water activity. Adhesion forces measured by the AFM force curves increased with increasing water activity. Topography of zein and zein fractions were evaluated both qualitatively and quantitatively by the use of AFM and dedicated software to calculate the surface roughness. It has been found that processing technologies (solvent casting, drop deposition and spin casting) has influence on the surface structures of films. The films which were formed by the alpha zein rich fraction were found to have highest roughness values. Sectional surface profiles revealed that α-zein films have mean roughness (Ra) of 1.808 nm and root mean square roughness (RMS) of 2.239 nm while β-zein films have mean roughness (Ra) of 1.745 nm and root mean square roughness (RMS) of 3.623 nm. The discussions conducted on the differences/similarities in the observations were based on the hydrophobic/hydrophilic properties and interactions of these zein fractions.  相似文献

Since natural fiber/polymer composites are increasingly used, the development of safe and environmental friendly flame retarding bio-based composites is of great importance. But this issue must maintain the mechanical performance of these composites. To study these objectives, four levels of magnesium hydroxide Mg(OH)2 of (0, 10, 20, 30 phc) and two levels of nanoclay (0, 3 phc) were considered and incorporated into HDPE/wheat straw composites. Maleic anhydride grafted polyethylene (PE-g-MA) was also used as a compatibilizer at constant content. The samples were prepared by melt compounding and injection molding processes, respectively. The some properties of samples including burning rate and mechanical properties (tensile and impact strengths) were tested based on the ASTM standard. The results showed that the burning rate of samples decreased with increasing the nanoclay and Mg(OH)2 content. The tensile and impact strengths showed a marginal reduction by adding Mg(OH)2 from 10 phc to 30 phc and the tensile modulus and impact strength revealed an increase by increasing the amount of nanoclay up to 3 phc. Generally, these results confirmed that the fire retarding and mechanical properties of HDPE/wheat straw composites could be significantly improved with an appropriate combination of the nanoclay and Mg(OH)2 in the composites.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to examine enzymatic modification of wheat bran, performed in a low-moisture process, and the reduction of bran particle size as means of improving the technological performance of wheat bran in expanded extrudates. Modification of bran by hydrolytic enzymes increased the crispiness and decreased the hardness and piece density of extrudates containing wheat bran and endosperm rye flour in 20:80 ratio. These improvements correlated (P < 0.01 or 0.05) with an increased content of water extractable arabinoxylan and decreased water holding capacity of the bran, as well as with increased longitudinal expansion of the extrudates. Furthermore, bran with a fine average particle size (84 μm) produced extrudates with improved mechanical properties and higher radial expansion than coarse bran (particle size 702 μm). The impact of bran particle size was also observed in the cellular structure of the extrudates as differences in cell size and homogeneity. The bran drying method, oven or freeze drying after enzymatic modification, did not have a major impact on the properties of the extrudates. The study showed that the functionality of wheat bran in extrusion can be improved by enzymatic modification using a low-water process and by reduction of bran particle size.  相似文献

A study was conducted to investigate the effect of dough formulation and hydration level on the rheological properties of pasta dough during pasta extrusion. Semolina 100%, whole wheat 100%, and the following mixtures semolina-whole wheat (49:51), semolina-flaxseed flour (90:10), whole wheat-flaxseed flour (90:10), and semolina-whole wheat-flaxseed flour (39:51:10) were the formulations used for the experiments. Dough was hydrated at 30, 32, and 34% moisture content. Pasta was extruded with a capillary and a semi-commercial pasta extruder to determine the apparent viscosity of the dough during extrusion conditions and its relationship to the behavior of the dough during pasta processing. Results showed that non-traditional pasta dough behaved like a shear thinning fluid that can be described by the Power Law model. Increased hydration levels and/or presence of flaxseed flour on the dough formulation decreased the apparent viscosity of the dough, which correlated with extrusion pressure, mechanical energy, and specific mechanical energy that were required to extrude the dough in the pasta extruder. The strong correlations found between the apparent viscosity of the dough and the pasta extrusion parameters indicates the possibility of using a capillary rheometer to determine the appropriate hydration level of ingredient formulations before extruding with a pasta press.  相似文献

Biodegradable nanocomposites were prepared by mixing a polymer resin and layered silicates by the melt intercalation method. Internal structure of the nanocomposite was characterized by using the small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) and transmission electron microscope (TEM). Nanocomposites having exfoliated and intercalated structures were obtained by employing two different organically modified nanoclays. Rheological properties in shear and extensional flows and biodegradability of nanocomposites were measured. In shear flow, shear thinning behavior and increased storage modulus were observed as the clay loading increased. In extensional flow, strain hardening behavior was observed in well dispersed system. Nanocomposites with the exfoliated structure had better biodegradability than nanocomposites with the intercalated structure or pure polymer.  相似文献

The properties of polarizing films prepared using iodine vapor and using I2/KI solution are compared to investigate the possibility of using vapor phase iodine adsorption in preparing polarizing film. The structure of PVA films drawn to different draw ratios and the amount of iodine adsorbed in drawn PVA films using iodine vapor were investigated. Increases in the degree of crystallinity, crystalline orientation index and birefringence with increase in draw ratio of PVA film, were observed by WAXD and polarizing microscope analysis. The amounts of iodine adsorbed by PVA film were 2–4 wt% for 20 min. UV-visible analysis suggests that I3 ? and I5 ? structures of iodine exist in the polarizing film after drawing in boric acid solution. Single transmittance and degree of polarization of polarizing films prepared using iodine vapor were about 30–50 % and over 99 %, respectively, at total draw ratios of over 3. The possibility of employing vapor phase adsorption of iodine instead of solution adsorption to prepare commercial polarizing film is suggested.  相似文献

The purpose of this research was tostudy the effects of initial moisture levels andextrusion temperatures on bulk density, waterabsorption and water solubility indexes, viscosity, and color of extruded oat products. The dehulledgrains were ground in a Brabender Quadrumat Seniormill and the coarse fraction, with higher amounts ofcrude protein, lipids, and dietary fiber content, wereconditioned to moisture levels of 15.5–25.5% andextruded in a Brabender single-screw laboratoryextruder. The water absorption index of extrudateswere relatively low (4.16–6.35 g gel/g sample) butincreased as the initial moisture of the raw materialas well as the extrusion temperature was elevated. The water solubility index was inversely proportionalto the extrusion temperature. Initial viscosity of thepaste increased with the increase of raw materialmoisture and extrusion temperature, while the maximumviscosity (at a constant temperature) diminished withthe increase of temperature. Products with lowervalues of L* (luminosity) and greater values ofa* (red) and b* (yellow) were obtained athigh moisture rates and at a 120 °C extrusiontemperature.  相似文献

In this study, the effect of calcium carbonate (CaCO3) nanoparticles on the barrier properties and biodegradability of polylactic acid (PLA) was investigated. For this purpose, nanocomposite films with various CaCO3 nanoparticle contents (0, 3, 5, 10, and 15 wt%) were prepared by solution casting method. The gas permeability of nitrogen (N2), oxygen (O2), and carbon dioxide (CO2) was evaluated through a constant volume and variable pressure apparatus at different pressures and temperatures. According to results, barrier properties were improved by loading CaCO3 nanoparticles up to 5 wt%, and the gas permeability of CO2, O2, and N2 was decreased from 1.4, 0.31, and 0.07 Barrer to 0.48, 0.095, and 0.019 Barrer, respectively. In addition, it was also observed that the gas permeability of samples was decreased by increasing feeding pressure and increased by enhancing temperature. Furthermore, morphological results confirmed the formation of agglomerations and large clusters over 5 wt% CaCO3 nanoparticles. Finally, the thermal properties and biodegradability of PLA were increased by employing CaCO3 nanoparticles. These results suggested PLA nanocomposites as favorable candidates for food packaging applications.  相似文献

Well-aligned PMIA nanofiber mats were fabricated by electrospinning and then hot-stretching along the fiber axis was used to improve the mechanical properties of nanofibers in this paper. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) were used to characterize the morphology and properties of nanofibers. The results showed that the nanofibers became thinner and better alignment than the as-spun nanofibers after hotstretching, and the average diameter of the nanofibers decreased with the increasing of the tensile force. In the same time, hotstretching improved the crystallinity and T g of the as-spun PMIA nanofibers. The tensile strength and modulus of the hotstretched nanofiber mats peaked at ca.50 % and ca.196 % respectively at the tensile force of 12 N compared with the as-spun nanofiber mats.  相似文献

Wholemeal flour from five Czech spring barley materials was processed in a single-screw extruder at 130 °C, addition of 20% water and a screw speed of 220 rpm. Two barleys (AF Cesar, AF Lucius) were hulless cultivars with a standard starch composition, while three barleys (KM 2624, KM 2460-1, KM 2460-2) were hulled waxy lines. The effect of extrusion on content of different dietary fibre fractions was determined. Also the changes of the molar mass of β-glucan were studied. Regardless of the barley genotype (standard starch or waxy), the extrusion had no significant effect on arabinoxylan content. A significantly higher beta-glucan and soluble dietary fibre content in barley cultivars with standard starch composition was observed after extrusion. The content of insoluble dietary fibre decreased significantly in all extruded flours. The molar mass of water-extractable beta-glucan increased independently of the barley variety after extrusion. But the increase in beta-glucan extractability due to extrusion was not observed.  相似文献

Incorporation of insoluble fibers into extruded cereals severely limits their expansion and reduces crispness. The specific objective of this work was to investigate how corn bran and its fractions mixed with cornmeal affect rheology and extrudate expansion. Alkali-treated bran (ATB) and alkaline-soluble bran (ASB) were prepared from unmodified corn bran (UMB). Mixtures of the different corn bran fractions and degermed cornmeal having a 26% (w/w) of total dietary fibers were extruded in a twin screw extruder and expansion of the extrudates was determined. Melt shear rheology of mixtures of cornmeal and different corn bran fractions having a 20% total dietary fiber was determined using a capillary rheometer at 120 °C while the extensional rheology was determined using lubricated squeezing flow. The expansion of extrudates containing ATB was larger than those containing UMB, while extrudates containing ASB showed a greater expansion that was close to that of the control. Addition of UMB to cornmeal increased shear and extensional viscosity significantly as compared to the control. ATB addition increased the shear viscosity of the mixture to a small extent but showed the highest extensional viscosity amongst the samples. Addition of ASB resulted in mixtures having lower shear and extensional viscosities than the control.  相似文献
