High fecundity of sows induces a large within-litter variation in piglet birth weight. This study aimed to determine whether piglet birth weight influenced growth performance, tissue lipogenic capacity and muscle characteristics at slaughter. A total of 19 piglets were assigned to either light birth weight group (LBW: 0.80-1.10 kg, n=9) or heavy birth weight group (HBW: 1.75-2.05 kg, n=10). Light birth weight was associated significantly with reduced average daily gain during suckling and post-weaning periods only. At slaughter (102±0.6 kg), LBW pigs were 12 days older than HBW littermates (P<0.01). Plasma IGF-I concentration was reduced by 24% (P<0.05) in LBW pigs compared to HBW pigs. Subcutaneous fat depth, tissue lipid content and lipogenic capacity did not differ between groups. Fiber mean cross-sectional area was increased by 14% in semitendinosus, and by 20% in longissimus and rhomboideus muscles, respectively (P<0.05), in LBW pigs compared with HBW pigs. Total fiber number was reduced in both semitendinosus (−13%) and rhomboideus muscles (−20%, P<0.10) of LBW pigs compared with HBW pigs. Whether such histological modifications influence the sensory quality of pork remains to be established.  相似文献

There are limited data on age-related changes in body composition or skeletal muscle in the horse. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to investigate any differences in muscle myosin heavy chain (MHC) and body composition associated with aging. Twenty-three young (4-8 years) and eight old (20+ years) unfit Standardbred mares were evaluated. Rump fat thickness was measured using B-mode ultrasound and per cent body fat (% fat) was calculated. Needle muscle biopsies were obtained from right gluteus medius muscle. MHC composition was determined via sodium dodecyl sulphate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. Three MHC isoforms were subsequently identified as type I, type IIA, and type IIX and quantified using a scanning and densometric system. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) between old and young mares in fat (%) (19.0+/-6.4 vs 20.5+/-5.4), fat mass (kg) (102.3+/-39.9 vs 106.9+/-37.1), or body weight (kg) (529.4+/-34.9 vs 512.7+/-57.7). However, the old mares had significantly (p<0.05) greater lean body mass than the young mares (427.1+/-24.5 vs 405.7+/-37.9). Aged mares had significantly (p<0.05) less type I (7.8+/-2.9% vs 12.1+/-4.4%) and IIA (27.8+/-7.1% vs 36.1+/-9.5%) fibres than the young group but more type IIX (64.6+/-4.7% vs 51.8+/-11.1%). The MHC data are consistent with the age-related changes seen in other species.  相似文献

Epidemiological studies have demonstrated that low birth weight is associated with an increased incidence of visceral obesity and metabolic disorders in later life. In the present study, we have determined the impact of birth weight and gender on gene expression in visceral adipose tissue (VAT) in the young adult sheep. Lambs (n=19, birth weight range 2.6-7.55 kg) were born at term and growth monitored for 22.4+/-0.2 weeks, when body composition was determined by Dual X-ray Absorptiometry (DXA) and samples of VAT and subcutaneous (SCAT) adipose tissue collected. Plasma samples were collected at post-mortem for the determination of free fatty acids (FFA), glucose and insulin concentrations. Peroxisome-Proliferator Activated Receptor-gamma (PPARgamma), glycerol-3-phosphate dehydrogenase (G3PDH), lipoprotein lipase (LPL), adiponectin and leptin mRNA expression was determined by qRT-PCR. Fractional growth rate in postnatal weeks 1-3 was inversely related to birth weight in both males and females (R2=0.22, P<0.05, n=19). PPARgamma mRNA expression in VAT, but not SCAT, was inversely related to birth weight (R2=0.60, P<0.01, n=18). In males, but not females, PPARgamma mRNA in VAT was directly related to G3PDH mRNA expression (R2=0.69, P<0.01, n=9). Plasma FFA concentrations were inversely related to birth weight in both males and females (R2=0.22, P<0.05, n=19). These findings demonstrate that low birth weight is associated with an increased expression of a key adipogenic factor in visceral adipose tissue in young adulthood. In males, this is associated with an increased expression of lipogenic genes, and this may contribute to the increased propensity for visceral obesity in low birth weight males compared to females.  相似文献

This study utilized maternal undernutrition from early to midgestation in the ewe to determine the impact(s) of intrauterine growth restriction on postpartum growth of male offspring and the potential mechanisms involved. Multiparous ewes were fed 50% (nutrient-restricted) or 100% (control-fed) of their nutrient requirements (NRC, 1985) between d 28 and 78 of gestation, and then all ewes were fed 100% of the NRC requirements from d 79 through lambing. Male lambs born to nutrient-restricted (n = 9) and control-fed (n = 9) ewes exhibited similar BW (5.8 vs. 6.0 +/- 0.3 kg) and crown-rump lengths (53.8 vs. 55.4 +/- 1.0 cm) at birth. At 63 and 250 d of postnatal age, wether lambs were subjected to a glucose tolerance test, in which a bolus of glucose was administered i.v. to evaluate changes in glucose and insulin concentrations. After i.v. glucose administration at 63 d of age, lambs from nutrient-restricted ewes exhibited a greater area under the curve for glucose (AUCg; 6,281 vs. 5,242 +/- 429; P < 0.05) and insulin (AUCi; 21.0 vs. 8.6 +/- 1.9; P < 0.001) than lambs from control-fed ewes. After glucose administration at 250 d of age, lambs from nutrient-restricted ewes had greater AUCg (7,147 vs. 5,823 +/- 361; P < 0.01) but a lower AUCi (6.4 vs. 10.2 +/- 1.9; P = 0.05) than lambs from control-fed ewes. Lambs from nutrient-restricted ewes were heavier (26.6 vs. 21.8 +/- 2.3 kg; P < 0.05) and had more backfat (0.30 vs. 0.21 +/- 0.03 cm, P < 0.05) by 4 mo of age than the lambs from control-fed ewes. At slaughter at 280 d of age, lambs from nutrient-restricted ewes remained heavier than lambs from control-fed ewes, had greater (P < 0.05) amounts of kidney and pelvic-area adipose tissue, and tended (P < 0.10) to have reduced LM and semitendinosus muscle weights as a percentage of HCW. These data demonstrate that a bout of maternal undernutrition during early to midgestation in sheep increased BW and fat deposition during adolescence and dysregulated glucose uptake in the absence of any change in birth weight.  相似文献

本试验通过研究精氨酸(Arg)对低出生重(LBW)哺乳仔猪机体氧化还原平衡状态和线粒体功能的影响,探讨Arg改善LBW哺乳仔猪生长发育的可能机制。试验选取体况接近、产期一致和胎次相近的初产母猪所产仔猪,4日龄时,选取20头LBW[体重(1.16±0.08)kg]和10头正常出生重(NBW)[体重(2.07±0.10)kg]仔猪,按体重相近、公母比例一致的原则分为NBW组(饲喂基础饲粮)、LBW组(饲喂基础饲粮)和LBW+Arg组(基础饲粮补充1%Arg)3个组,每组10个重复,每个重复1头猪,人工乳饲养21 d。在第22天,屠宰并收集所有试验猪的血清与肝脏样品,检测生长性能、氧化还原状态与线粒体功能指标。结果表明:1)与NBW仔猪相比,LBW仔猪末重、平均日增重(ADG)和平均日干物质摄入量(ADMI)显著降低(P<0.05),肝脏过氧化氢酶(CAT)活性和ATP含量显著下降(P<0.05),肝脏环氧化酶(COX)ⅠmRNA表达量显著下调(P<0.05),肝脏视神经萎缩症蛋白1(OPA1)mRNA表达量有下调的趋势(P=0.089);2)饲粮补充Arg显著提高LBW仔猪末重、ADG和ADMI(P<0.05),显著提高血清CAT活性和肝脏CAT、超氧化物歧化酶(SOD)、谷胱甘肽过氧化物酶(GPx)活性(P<0.05),显著提高肝脏ATP含量(P<0.05),显著上调肝脏GPx1和线粒体融合蛋白1(Mfn1)mRNA表达量(P<0.05),并且有上调肝脏CAT(P=0.056)、COXⅣ(P=0.063)和OPA1(P=0.087)mRNA表达量的趋势。以上研究表明,LBW仔猪肝脏抗氧化能力下降,线粒体功能受阻,生长发育受到抑制;而饲粮补充1%Arg显著提高LBW仔猪肝脏抗氧化能力,改善线粒体功能,提高LBW仔猪生长性能。  相似文献

This study investigated effects of birth weight and postnatal nutrition on growth and development of skeletal muscles in neonatal lambs. Low (L; mean +/- SD 2.289 +/- .341 kg, n = 28) and high (H; 4.840 +/- .446 kg, n = 20) birth weight male Suffolk x (Finnsheep x Dorset) lambs were individually reared on a liquid diet to grow rapidly (ad libitum fed, ADG 337 g, n = 20) or slowly (ADG 150 g, n = 20) from birth to live weights (LW) up to approximately 20 kg. At birth, weight of semitendinosus (ST) muscle in L lambs was 43% that in H lambs; aggregate weights of ST and seven other dissected muscles were similarly reduced. In ST muscle of L lambs, mass of DNA, RNA, and protein were also significantly reduced to levels 67, 60, and 34%, respectively, of those in H lambs. However, myofiber numbers of ST, tibialis caudalis, or soleus muscles did not differ between the L and H birth weight lambs and did not change during postnatal growth. During postnatal rearing, daily accretion rate of dissected muscle was lower in L than in H lambs. Accretion of muscle per kilogram of gain in empty body weight (EBW) was reduced in the slowly grown L lambs compared with their H counterparts, although the difference was less pronounced between the rapidly grown L and H lambs. Throughout the postnatal growth period, ST muscle of L lambs contained less DNA with a higher protein:DNA ratio at any given muscle weight than that of H lambs. Slowly grown lambs had heavier muscles at any given EBW than rapidly grown lambs. Content of DNA and protein:DNA ratio in ST muscle were unaffected by postnatal nutrition, but RNA content and RNA:DNA were greater and protein:RNA was lower at any given muscle weight in rapidly grown lambs. Results suggest that myofiber number in fetal sheep muscles is established before the presumed, negative effects of inadequate fetal nutrient supply on skeletal muscle growth and development become apparent. However, proliferation of myonuclei may be influenced by fetal nutrition in late pregnancy. Reduced myonuclei number in severely growth-retarded newborn lambs may limit the capacity for postnatal growth of skeletal muscles.  相似文献

The objective was to evaluate the effects of perinatal dexamethasone (Dex) treatment on postnatal growth in pigs. Experiment 1: 42 piglets were assigned according to birth weight and sex to receive either Dex (1 mg/kg body weight) or sterile saline (Control; equivalent volume) i.m. within 1h of birth. Body weights were recorded weekly and at sacrifice (day 18). Birth weights (1.43 +/- 0.05 kg) did not differ between treatment groups (P > 0.19). At day 18, Dex pigs were heavier than Control pigs (5.46 +/- 0.24 and 4.45 +/- 0.26 kg, respectively). Serum IGF-1 was 17.3% higher in Dex pigs (P < 0.04) compared to Controls. For serum GH, there was a treatment x sex interaction (P < 0.04) with GH being 51% lower in Dex males compared to Control males, and no differences in females. Experiment 2: 71 pigs were assigned according to birth weight and sex to receive either Dex (2 mg/kg body weight) or sterile saline (Control; equivalent volume) i.m. within 1 h of birth. Body weights were recorded weekly until weaning (day 21) and then every 14th day until market weight. Birth weights (1.53 +/- 0.03 kg) did not differ (P > 0.35) between treatment groups or sexes. Dexamethasone increased growth from birth to market weight by 4.15%. Carcass weights were not different (P > 0.34) between Dex (89.9 +/- 1.17 kg) and Control pigs (88.6 +/- 1.36 kg). Overall, Dex enhanced growth in pigs from birth to market weight with minimal effects on carcass and meat quality.  相似文献

beta-Adrenergic receptor (beta-AR) agonists increase muscle mass and decrease body fat in rodents and livestock. With oral administration, however, the effects of beta1-AR and beta2-AR can be different, depending on the species tested. We tested the effects of clenbuterol, a beta2-AR agonist, and ractopamine, a beta1/beta2-AR agonist, on growth, adiposity and adipose tissue apoptosis in male and female mice by feeding diets containing control, 200 ppm clenbuterol, or 200 or 800 ppm ractopamine. Food intake (FI) was measured daily; body weight (BW) and temperatures (BT) were measured on days 0, 3, 7, 10, 14, 17, and 20. On day 21 mice were sacrificed, body composition was determined using PIXImus densitometry, and muscle and adipose tissues were collected. There were no treatment effects on BT, FI, BW, feed efficiency or body composition. Retroperitoneal (Rp) and epididymal/parametrial (Epi/Par) fat pad masses were reduced in both 800 ppm ractopamine (40+/-3mg and 207+/-20mg, respectively) and clenbuterol (35+/-7 mg and 211+/-22 mg) treated mice compared to control (66+/-8 mg and 319+/-30 mg, P<0.05). Brown adipose tissue (BAT) mass was greater (P<0.05) in clenbuterol treated mice compared to other treatments. Adipose tissue apoptosis (% DNA fragmentation) was increased in Epi/Par fat pads in clenbuterol (5.2+/-1.1%) and 800 ppm ractopamine (4.1+/-0.8%) treated mice compared to control (1.7+/-0.4%, P<0.05). These findings show that WAT apoptosis can be induced by activation of beta-AR in mice, although the mechanism is unknown.  相似文献

Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is often observed in one of the fetuses carried by well-fed prolific ewes. This condition is the result of an insufficient placental size to cover the nutritional needs of the fetus during the near exponential growth phase of the last trimester. After birth, these IUGR offspring have an elevated appetite and lower maintenance energy requirements, suggesting dysregulation of homeostatic systems governing energy metabolism. It is also unknown whether the consequent increase in fatness occurs similarly in both visceral and carcass fractions. To address these questions, lambs differing in birth size (BS, IUGR vs. Normal, 2.6 ± 0.05 vs. 4.2 ± 0.07 kg, P < 0.001) were offered unlimited amounts of a low fat [LF; 22% of dry matter (DM)] or a high fat (HF; 38% of DM) milk replacer and slaughtered on day 14 of postnatal age (n = 7 to 8 for each BS × Diet); a second group of IUGR lambs (n = 3 for each diet) was slaughtered when they reached 8.5 kg, corresponding to the weight of Normal lambs on day 14. When normalized to body weight (BW), the DM and energy intake of IUGR lambs were higher than those of Normal lambs over the first 14 d of life (BS, P < 0.01), but contrary to expectations, the HF diet did not exacerbate these effects of the IUGR condition. Intrauterine growth restricted lambs had increased viscera fat with both diets (BS and Diet, P < 0.05) but increased carcass fat only with the LF diet (BS × Diet, P = 0.08); the fatness promoting effect of the IUGR condition was increased in both body fractions when lamb groups were compared at the fixed BW of 8.5 kg. A subset of metabolic hormones was analyzed, including the metabolic rate-setting hormone thyroxine (T4) and its possible positive regulator leptin. Plasma T4 was lower in IUGR than in Normal lambs at birth (P < 0.05) but then disappeared by day 7 of postnatal life (BS × Day, P < 0.01). On the other hand, the HF diet had no effect on plasma T4 over the first 3 d but caused an increase, irrespective of BS by day 11 (Diet × Day, P < 0.001). Plasma leptin increased with dietary fat and time (P < 0.06) but bore no relation to the effects of BS or Diet on plasma T4. These data show that IUGR and Normal lambs are similarly unable to adjust caloric intake in early life and that the fatness promoting effects of the IUGR condition are more pronounced in the viscera than in the carcass. These data also reveal dynamic regulation of plasma T4 by BS and Diet in neonatal lambs.  相似文献

Twenty-six 6-week old female New Zealand White rabbits were divided into two groups: ad libitum (AL) and 70% restricted (RS) feeding. At the beginning of the experiment the liveweights were practically the same: 0.99 +/- 0.08 vs. 1.01 +/- 0.08 kg in group AL and RS, respectively. At 18 weeks of age the body weight of Group RS rabbits was 84.7% (3.14 +/- 0.24 kg) of the group AL (3.71 +/- 0.31 kg). The apparent digestibility of crude protein was significantly (p < 0.001) higher in Group RS than in Group AL (76.5 +/- 1.4 vs. 73.0 +/- 2.7%). The daily water consumption was significantly (p < 0.05) higher (3.5 ml/g DM intake) in Group RS as compared to Group AL (1.9 ml/g DM). Since the average body weight in Group RS at 18 weeks was the same as that of Group AL at 14 weeks of age (3.14 kg), the comparison of the live body measures and indices was based on these ages. Animals fed ad libitum or restricted show no differences at the defined age in most live body measurements except in heart girth and rump width, which were significantly (p < 0.05) shorter in Group AL than in Group RS (29.3 +/- 0.8, 5.7 +/- 0.5 and 30.7 +/- 1.0, 6.2 +/- 0.3 cm, respectively). Body capacity was significantly (p < 0.05) smaller in Group AL, as the head capacity-body capacity proportion was significantly (p < 0.05) higher in Group AL than in Group RS (1653.1 +/- 134.5, 22.0 +/- 2.5 and 1913.7 +/- 168.7, 17.7 +/- 1.9, respectively). Due to restricted feeding the growth of the head proved to be less intensive than that of the body at the same body weight. The body in these does tended to be wider. Since the head in comparison to length or capacity of the body was smaller in does fed 70% of ad libitum, it could be concluded that the development of body parts of restricted-fed does was unequal (allometric growth). The effect of feed restriction reflected in lower dry matter and fat, and a higher ash and protein content both in total body and in dry matter composition of rabbits at 18 weeks of age. Restricted feeding delayed sexual maturity (69 vs. 92% of rabbits) with later starting ovarian activity, weaker ovarian responsiveness, and a smaller number of tertiary follicles on the ovarian surface.  相似文献

This study examined whether body composition was predictive of competitive success in elite standardbreds (STB). Rump fat and muscle thickness (MTH) (vastus lateralis/intermedius [VL], extensor carpi radialis [ECR]) were measured in vivo in male n=6; female n=8 by B-mode ultrasound. Percentage body fat (%fat) was calculated from rump fat. There were no gender differences for age, body mass (males 432+/-11 kg; females 443+/-13 kg), fat-free mass (FFM) (males 400+/-12 kg; females 400+/-11 kg), ECR MTH (males 61+/-2 cm; females 60+/-2 cm) or race time (RT) (males 113+/-3 s; females 114+/-2 s). Males had less (P<0.05) fat mass (males 32+4 kg; females 44+/-3 kg) and %fat (males 7.4+/-0.9%; females 9.9+/-0.5%) and larger (P<0.05) VL MTH (males 88+/-7 cm; females 81+/-3 cm). RT was correlated to %fat and fat mass in males (r=0.89; r=0.82, P<0.05) not females (r=0.51; r=0.14). FFM tended to relate to RT in males (r=-0.76, P=0.07) and females (r=-0.59, P=0.12). Combined %fat and FFM data were correlated to RT (%fat r=0.70, P<0.01; FFM r=-0.65, P<0.01). RT was not correlated to MTH (VL r=-0.28; ECR r=-0.31). In conclusion, FFM was related to RT in elite STB with %fat negatively related to RT in males.  相似文献

本试验旨在探讨瘤胃保护型亮氨酸(RP-Leu)对滩羊母羊繁殖性能、消化性能及初乳品质的影响。选取体重为(42.18±2.62)kg的经产滩羊母羊48只,随机分为4组,每组3个重复,每个重复4只。对照组饲喂基础饲粮,试验组在对照组基础上分别添加0.10%、0.20%和0.30%的RP-Leu。试验期为妊娠后第35天始至分娩后第60天(断奶)结束。结果表明:与对照组相比,妊娠期母羊饲粮添加0.20%RP-Leu显著提高了羔羊初生重和断奶重(P0.05),显著提高了妊娠期母羊粗蛋白质的表观消化率(P0.05),显著提高了初乳中乳脂、乳蛋白和乳糖含量(P0.05),同时显著降低了母羊分娩后第15天血清尿素氮含量(P0.05)。综上所述,饲粮中添加0.20%RP-Leu能够改善妊娠滩羊氮沉积和初乳品质,同时实现促进羔羊生长发育的目的。  相似文献

为进一步研究不同肉羊品种与湖羊杂交F1代羔羊育肥效果,本试验选择国外优良的肉羊品种杜泊羊、无角陶赛特羊和萨福克羊作父本,国内优良地方品种湖羊作母本开展杂交试验研究,所获得的杂交F1代羔羊在全舍饲条件下进行育肥。测定杂交F1代羔羊初生重、不同月龄体重和平均日增重等生长性能。结果表明:试验A组(杜泊公羊与湖羊母羊杂交F1羔羊)、试验B组(无角陶赛特公羊与湖羊母羊杂交F1羔羊)、试验C组(萨福克公羊与湖羊母羊杂交F1羔羊)6月龄平均重分别为44.76±3.62 g、 43.65±4.18 g、43.28±3.34 g,均极显著高于对照组D 6月龄平均重36.32±3.86 g,差异极显著(P<0.01)。试验A组、B组、C组与对照组D相比较,试验A组、B组、C组每只羊的利润较对照组分别多收入80.02元、69.74、42.74元,差异极显著(P<0.01),其中试验A组的生长性能和利润均优于试验B组和C组,差异显著(P<0.05)。  相似文献

Concentrations of hormones related to energy homeostasis may differ between populations with varied body compositions, acting as signals to increase or decrease energy intake and/or expenditure. How these parameters correlate with body composition in horses and how they vary in fit (F) versus unfit (UF) Standardbred racehorses is unclear. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that plasma concentrations of glucose (GLU), insulin (INS), cortisol (CORT), ghrelin (GHRL), adiponectin (ADIP) and leptin (LEP) would be correlated with body composition and differ in fit (F) versus unfit (UF) horses. Fasting plasma samples were taken from 12 unfit (11 +/- 2 years, 521 +/- 77 kg; mean +/- SD) and 34 fit (4 +/- 2 years, 475 +/- 83 kg) Standardbred horses. GHRL, LEP, ADIP, INS and CORT concentrations were measured using radioimmunoassay. GLU concentration was measured using colorometric kits. Body composition data included body weight, body condition score (BCS), and percent fat (%fat) calculated using rump fat thickness measured ultrasonically and the Westervelt equation. Data were analyzed using Pearson Product moment and Student's t tests. There were no differences (P>0.05) between F and UF horses for the plasma concentrations of CORT (69 +/- 14 versus 76 +/- 23 microg/dL), INS (7.2 +/- 3.5 versus 7.1 +/- 1.8 microIU/mL) or GLU (90 +/- 6 versus 86 +/- 7 mg/dL). Plasma GHRL and ADIP concentrations were greater (P<0.05) in F versus UF horses (54 +/- 27 versus 33 +/- 17 pg/mL and 1820 +/- 276 versus 1333 +/- 249 ng/mL, respectively), while plasma LEP was lower in F versus UF (1.0 +/- 0.6 versus 4.4 +/- 2.4 ng/mL, P<0.001). BCS and %fat were lower in F versus UF horses (4.8 +/- 0.3 versus 6.7 +/- 0.5 and 11.9 +/- 1.6 versus 15.4 +/- 2.5%, respectively), with no correlation between %fat and GHRL (-0.12, P>0.05), although there was a positive correlation between %fat and LEP (+0.72, P<0.05), and a negative correlation between %fat and ADIP (-0.40, P<0.05). The data show that in comparing fit and unfit horses, there are variations in body composition as well as concurrent and substantial differences in the concentrations of hormones, cytokines, and other parameters related to the control of appetite and feed intake.  相似文献

The effect of the replacement of corn silage with spineless cactus associated with Tifton 85 hay or sugarcane bagasse was evaluated on the performance, body weight components and sheep meat quality. Twenty-one Santa Inês male sheep with initial body weight of 22.9 ± 2.9 kg were used. They were confined in individual stalls for 74 days receiving the following diets: corn silage + concentrate (CS); spineless cactus + Tifton 85 hay + concentrate (TH); spineless cactus + sugarcane bagasse + concentrate (SB). After the feedlot period, the animals were slaughtered and their body components were weighed and sampled. Data were submitted to Tukey’s test at 5% probability. The average daily gain (0.25 vs 0.14 kg), cold carcass weight (13.3 vs 13.7 kg), loin muscularity (0.6 vs 0.4 kg) and liver weight (0.7 vs. 0.5 kg) were higher (P < 0.05) for the TH diet when compared to that for the CS. The physical-chemical parameters of meat were not influenced (P > 0.05) by the treatments and presented about 20.1% of crude protein, 6.1% of crude fat and shear force of 2.0 kgf/cm2. In complete diets for sheep, Tifton 85 hay associated with spineless cactus provides greater weight gain, cold carcass muscularity and organ weight when compared to those for animals fed with corn silage as exclusive roughage. Sugarcane bagasse associated with spineless cactus may replace corn silage in complete diets for sheep.  相似文献

The effects of administration of estradiol antiserum to pregnant rats on birth weight, subsequent growth velocity, carcass composition, and reproductive performance of their offspring were examined. Treated rats were injected i.p. with a potent antiestradiol serum on d 12 of gestation, whereas control rats received a similar injection of normal sheep serum. The pups from the treated rats were 12.2% heavier at birth than those from control rats (P less than .01) and had a greater postnatal growth rate (P less than .05). Chemical analysis of body composition at 56 d of age revealed that there was a tendency for female offspring from treated rats to exhibit carcass characteristics (such as increased percentage of body fat) that were more similar to those of normal male rats than to those of normal female rats. Neither onset of puberty nor reproductive performance was affected by the treatment. These results indicate that treatment of rats during pregnancy with antiestradiol may have potential as a technique for increasing postnatal growth rates.  相似文献

The objective was to evaluate the effect of restricted early postweaning growth rate due to diet complexity, pen space, or both on subsequent growth to market in a wean-to-finish system. Pigs (n = 1,728) were used in a randomized block design with a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments: 1) diet complexity (Complex vs Simple) and 2) space allocation (Unrestricted vs Restricted). Treatments were imposed for the first 8 wk after weaning (period 1) and growth was measured from weaning (5.0 +/- 0.01 kg body weight; 15 d of age) to the end of wk 23 postweaning. The Simple diet was based on corn-soybean meal with minimal inclusion of milk products, processed cereals, and animal protein-based ingredients compared to the Complex diet. Floor and feeder-trough spaces were 0.63 m2 and 4 cm and 0.21 m2 and 2 cm per pig for Unrestricted and Restricted space treatments, respectively. From the end of wk 8 to end of wk 23 (period 2), pigs on all treatments had the same floor and feeder spaces and were fed common diets. There was no interaction (P > 0.05) between diet and space treatments. In period 1, Simple diets resulted in similar average daily feed intake (ADFI; 639 vs 650 +/- 5.4 g; P > 0.05), but lower average daily gain (ADG; 408 vs 424 +/- 3.8 g; P < 0.01) and gain:feed ratio (0.64 vs 0.65 +/- 0.002; P < 0.001), and lighter body weight (2.8%; P < 0.01) compared to the Complex diets. In period 2, growth was not affected (P > 0.05) by previous diet complexity, and pig body weight was similar (114.4 vs 114.4 +/- 0.37 kg, P > 0.05) at the end of wk 23. In period 1, pigs with Restricted space had lower ADG (398 vs 434 +/- 3.8 g; P < 0.001), ADFI (621 vs 668 +/- 5.4 g; P < 0.001), and gain:feed ratio (0.64 vs 0.65 +/- 0.002; P < 0.01), and were lighter at the end of wk 8 (6.5%; P < 0.001) than those with Unrestricted space. However, in period 2, pigs with Restricted space had higher (P < 0.01) ADG (3%), ADFI (2%), and gain:feed ratio (3%) than those with Unrestricted space, and body weight was similar (114.5 vs 114.3 +/- 0.37 kg; P > 0.05) at end of wk 23. Carcass backfat and loin-eye depth at market body weight were influenced by neither diet nor space treatment. Using a simple diet program and restricted space allowance immediately postweaning resulted in a lower early growth rate, but had no impact on pig body weight or carcass measures at market.  相似文献

Backfat thickness, carcass length, area of M. longissimus and carcass composition were determined for 253 Large White barrows and gilts to examine the genetic influence on the main characteristics of the carcass and the correlation of these traits with body measurements and fat characteristics at 8 d of age. Pigs were born to 32 sows mated to the same boar. At the age of 8 d, weight, body length and backfat thickness and cellularity were measured. Pigs were slaughtered at 95 and 145 kg live weight. Heritability and genetic correlations were estimated with dam component of variance. Higher adiposity of carcasses was noted for barrows than for gilts and for those animals slaughtered at the heavier vs at the lighter weight. High h2 values were observed for carcass length (.89 +/- .29), area of the M. longissimus (.67 +/- .26) and backfat thickness at the gluteus medius (.77 +/- .28). Percentage of commercial cuts also had high heritabilities. Phenotypic and genetic correlations between the characteristics at 8 d and backfat thickness, carcass length and M. longissimus area at slaughter were not statistically significant. However, significant phenotypic correlations were found between cellularity of the outer and inner layers at 8 d and percentage of major cuts (e.g., rp = .27 with total fat cuts); cellularity of the outer layer at 8 d also was correlated genetically with carcass composition (e.g., rg = .50 +/- .19 with total fat cuts). Genetic predisposition toward intensive fat deposition was more clearly predicted by cellularity than by thickness of adipose tissue in newborn pigs.  相似文献

试验通过研究不同生长速度阿勒泰羊主要血液生化指标含量和尾脂中瘦素(Leptin)基因的表达水平,探讨阿勒泰羊生长速度与脂肪沉积之间的关系。选取300只出生时间相近的阿勒泰羊公羔,正常饲喂至6月龄,记录日增重,取平均日增重排前10%和后10%的公羔各30只,分为生长快速组(HBW)和生长慢速组(LBW),从生长快速组随机选12只分为抑制生长组(饲喂低能量饲粮以抑制其生长,HBW-75%,n=6)和生长快速对照组(饲喂标准饲粮,HBW-100%,n=6),生长慢速组随机选12只分为促进生长组(饲喂高能量饲粮以促进生长,LBW-125%,n=6)和生长慢速对照组(饲喂标准饲粮,LBW-100%,n=6);预饲期7 d,正饲期30 d,试验结束后称重并采集血液,屠宰后采集尾部脂肪。检测血液TG、CK、TSH、T3、T4、S.S、GH、INS、PG、Leptin含量或活性及尾部脂肪Leptin mRNA和蛋白表达量,并观察尾部脂肪细胞形态学变化。结果显示,HBW-100%和LBW-100%组初体重与末体重均差异显著(P<0.05),HBW-75%和HBW-100%组初体重与末体重均无显著差异(P>0.05);LBW-100%和LBW-125%组初体重差异显著(P<0.05),末体重无显著差异(P>0.05)。LBW-100%组的T4、S.S、Leptin、TSH、T3含量显著低于HBW-100%组(P<0.05);LBW-125%组T3含量显著高于LBW-100%组(P<0.05);HBW-75%组GH、PG和Leptin含量显著低于HBW-100%组(P<0.05)。LBW-125%组尾部脂肪细胞面积大于LBW-100%组,HBW-75%组小于HBW-100%组(P<0.05)。Leptin mRNA和蛋白表达量检测结果表明,HBW-100%组的Leptin mRNA表达量与LBW-100%组无显著差异(P>0.05),Leptin蛋白表达量极显著高于LBW-100%组(P<0.01)。LBW-125%组Leptin mRNA和蛋白的表达量均显著高于LBW-100%组(P<0.05)。HBW-75%组Leptin mRNA的表达量极显著低于HBW-100%组(P<0.01),Leptin蛋白表达量显著低于HBW-100%组(P<0.05)。综上所述,生长快速组与生长慢速组中,Leptin的表达量与体重和体脂有一定关联;在生长慢速组促进生长后体重和体脂显著增加,Leptin的表达量呈上升趋势;在生长快速组抑制生长后体重和体脂减少,Leptin的表达呈下降趋势。改变生长速度对Leptin的表达量会产生影响,从而改变机体的脂肪沉积状况。  相似文献
