The study was conducted to evaluateLiriomyza trifolii (Burgess) in the cotton fields of the Büyük Menderes Valley, Turkey, from 1999 to 2000. Leaves were sampled weekly from the middle of June to the middle of August and kept in the laboratory to observe emerging leafminers. Leafminers were initially found on cotton leaves from 35 to 66 days after sowing. The numbers of larval mines varied from one to four per leaf. The largest number of infested leaves was observed in Aydın (Center), where 18.8% and 17.7% of the sampled leaves were infested in 1999 and 2000, respectively. We conclude thatL. trifolii is a potential pest in the cotton fields of Turkey and more research is needed. http://www.phytoparasitica.org posting July 3, 2003.  相似文献

Quorum sensing controls a number of key processes in growth, reproduction and virulence of many gram-negative bacteria via signalling molecules or autoinducers. It can control, for instance, the production of pectic enzymes which are virulence factors in disease. Pseudomonas fluorescens 5064 produces biosurfactants which are important for bacterial establishment on the plant surface prior to causing disease in broccoli. The aim of this paper was to determine if biosurfactant production in this bacterium is controlled via quorum sensing. To do this, 35 surfactant-minus Tn5 mutants of P. fluorescens 5064 were screened for their abilities to produce a quorum sensing signal. Six of these biosurfactant-deficient mutants showed a large reduction in quorum sensing signal production and varied in their abilities to cause disease. In one mutant, 6423, which contains a single Tn5 insertion, the production of the signal was almost eliminated. Synthetic quorum sensing signal and quorum sensing signal extracted from wild type P. fluorescens 5064 restored biosurfactant production by addition to the culture in mutant 6423. The quorum sensing signal in wild type P. fluorescens 5064 was identified by high pressure liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry as N -3-hydroxyoctanoyl-homoserine lactone.  相似文献

A plant-growth-promoting fungus (PGPF), Talaromyces sp. was isolated from an agricultural field in southwestern Japan. We found that this fungus emitted several terpenoid-like volatiles including β-caryophyllene. Then we investigated the effect of β-caryophyllene on promoting the growth and inducing resistance of Brassica campestris L. var. perviridis. The compound significantly enhanced the growth of seedlings and their resistance to Colletotrichum higginsianum. On the basis of these results, we discuss the role of β-caryophyllene in the activities of PGPF.  相似文献

Aggregations of palm aphid Cerataphis brasiliensis (Hempel) (Aphididae: Hemiptera) on the unfurled spindle leaf of ‘Kalparaksha’ variety of coconut, a selection from Malayan Green Dwarf, is reported for the first time. C. brasiliensis has not yet been observed from other coconut varieties, viz., West Coast Tall, Chowghat Orange Dwarf, Chowghat Green Dwarf, and Dwarf x Tall hybrids planted in the research farm of Central Plantation Crops Research Institute, Kayangulam, Kerala, India. Only the apterous form of the palm aphid was noticed in the semi-tall variety and a variety-induced emergence of C. brasiliensis is indicated under natural conditions. Due to the presence of two phoretic ant species, no natural predator was observed in the aphid colonies. Two sprays of dimethoate (0.05%) at an interval of 15–20 days were effective in suppression of the pest on Kalparaksha.  相似文献

The use of a selective insecticide is highly recommended for Integrated Pest Management programs. Plenum (a.i.: pymetrozine; Syngenta Agro), a systemic insecticide, is regarded as a good candidate for use in situations where plant-sucking insects have to be controlled and where natural enemies can play a substantial role as biological control agents. In this context, the effects of Plenum on a host–endoparasitoid relationship were investigated. Potato aphids Macrosiphum euphorbiae were reared for 4 days on an artificial diet supplemented with a low concentration of Plenum (sublethal concentration inducing 15% aphid mortality) before parasitization by the endoparasitoid Aphidius ervi. The development of A. ervi larvae was negatively affected, especially during the early stages of development, and the sex ratio of the progeny was strongly male-biased. Moreover, the host-choice experiment showed that A. ervi was not able to discriminate between control and Plenum-contaminated aphids. These results show that Plenum may not be as selective as it was previously thought to be, and the observed effects need to be considered when developing IPM systems.  相似文献

A 4-year study of parasitoids attackingChrysoperla carnea (Stephens) in the cotton fields of Çukurova, Turkey, revealed the activities of three principal taxa:Telenomus sp. nr.suvae attacks the eggs ofC. carnea: Catolaccus sp. andBaryscapus sp. are larval and pupal parasitoids, respectively. In general, percent egg parasitism increased starting from the second half of June and into July, then decreased until the beginning of August before rising again at the end of growing season. During the early season, weekly parasitism was found to be as high as 94%. Overall, seasonal egg parasitism varied between 13.6% and 62.0% among all study sites. According to the results of a one-year field study at Hac?ali, total larval and pupal parasitism was found to be 12.5% and 55.6%, respectively. Therefore, different factors influencing the effectiveness of the generalist predatorC. carnea against cotton pests, and the differential effects of cotton treatments on both host and parasitoids, need to be evaluated.  相似文献

2005年6月1-2日,额尔齐斯河全流域发生了突发性融雪和降雨混合型大洪水,各支流洪水峰高、量大、来势凶猛,其中额尔齐斯河源头支流--库依尔特斯河发生有实测资料(50 a)以来最大洪水,布尔津河、哈巴河发生有实测资料(54 a)以来第2、第3位洪水,给当地造成较大经济损失。根据河流实测洪水、降水量、气温、高空和环流形势等资料,对这次洪水的成因、过程、特点进行分析。结果表明:① 在额尔齐斯河流域融雪与降雨混合型大洪水的形成过程中,前期气温和大尺度降水天气起重要作用;② 从[JP2]有实测洪水记录的50多年以来,第4次发生全流域性洪水,在全球气候变暖和随阿勒泰地区冬季降水量明显增多的形势下,灾害性洪水出现的可能性将增加;③ 由于融雪与降雨混合型洪水过程较长、峰量较大,因此,洪水挟沙能力较强,在设计蓄水工程时要引起重视;④ 对下游有较大城市或重点水利工程的山区河流,要加强防洪预警系统的建设力度,以减轻灾害性洪水造成的损失。  相似文献

We investigated if rates of propagation and migration were related with the level of virulence in the pinewood nematode Bursaphelenchus xylophilus using 17 offspring lines from the F2 crosses between virulent and avirulent isolates. Virulence was tested by inoculating seedlings of Pinus thunbergii with the nematodes. The proportion of dead seedlings ranged from 13.3% to 77.8%, 20 weeks after inoculation. Migration rate of the nematodes was estimated by measuring their migration distance per unit time in an artificial substrate that imitated pathways in pine trees. Migration rate varied from 0.85 to 3.53 mm min−1. Propagation rate was determined based on population growth on the fungus Botrytis cinerea, and it ranged between 103.88 and 104.99 per 12 days. Statistical analyses revealed that virulence was not correlated with migration rate, but was negatively correlated with propagation rate on Botrytis cinerea, suggesting that the nematodes paid some cost for virulence. Also, there was no relationship between rates of migration and propagation. Cluster analysis showed that the biological parameters varied between crossbred lines, with no kinship bias, suggesting the absence of sex-linked inheritance in virulence and rates of propagation and migration.  相似文献

Fifty-eight isolates of Phytophthora infestans were evaluated in vitro and on detached leaves of potato for their sensitivities to metalaxyl-M and cymoxanil. The isolates belonged to the clonal lineage, EC-1, which is dominant on potato in Peru and Ecuador. All isolates were collected in Huánuco, Peru, an area of year-round potato production, where the potential for development of fungicide resistance is high. All isolates were resistant to metalaxyl-M, with in vitro EC50 values ranging from 468.30—813.57 mg l−1. In contrast, we found no evidence for resistance to cymoxanil for which in vitro EC50 values ranged from 0.03—1.11 mg l−1. Resistance to each fungicide was also evaluated for five isolates in a detached leaf assay in which the fungicide was sprayed on the leaf surface prior to inoculation. With metalaxyl-M, the range of EC50 values was 158.85—828.29 mg l−1, similar to that for the in vitro assay. For cymoxanil, EC50 values ranged from 1.41 to 2.31 mg l−1, which was higher than in the in vitro assay but still two orders of magnitude lower than the concentration applied by farmers in the field.  相似文献

Groundnut is an important oilseed crop of the Indian subcontinent. Yield losses due to fungal diseases are enormous in the cultivation of this crop. Over-expression of PR proteins leads to increased resistance to pathogenic fungi in several crops. The PR protein glucanase hydrolyses a major cell-wall component, glucan, of pathogenic fungi and acts as a plant defense barrier. We report in this paper, overexpression of a tobacco glucanase in transgenic groundnut and its resistance towards Cercospora arachidicola and Aspergillus flavus. PCR, Southern and Northern hybridization confirmed stable integration and expression of the glucanase gene in groundnut transgenics. When screened for resistance against Cercospora arachidicola the transgenics showed not only reduction in the number of spots but also delay in the onset of disease. Resistance was also demonstrated against one another important pathogen of groundnut, Aspergillus flavus. The transgenics not only resisted hyphal spread but also did not accumulate aflatoxin in the seeds. The results demonstrate the potential of a PR protein from a heterologous source in developing fungal disease resistant groundnut.  相似文献

Bacterial blight of garlic, caused by Pseudomonas salomonii, results in leaf and sheath necrosis and sometimes leads to soft rot and plant death. The epidemiology of this bacterial disease, known as ‘Café au lait’ disease, is poorly understood and no resistant cultivars are currently available. To develop control strategies for this disease, we investigated principal sources of inoculum. The pathogen was isolated from bulbs from plants with typical vegetative symptoms of bacterial blight. Subsequent development of typical foliar symptoms on plantlets originating from symptomatic bulbs demonstrated transmission of the pathogen in the planting material. In one of three field experiments the contamination rate of planting stock influenced the disease incidence in field-grown garlic. The importance of planting stock as a source of inoculum was demonstrated here and should be evaluated relative to other potential sources such as crop debris, soil or alternate hosts in order to develop successful control strategies.  相似文献

BABA induced local and systemic resistance in lettuce (Lactuca sativa) against the Oomycete Bremia lactucae. Structure-activity analysis showed no induced resistance by related amino-butanoic acids or β-alanine. The R-enantiomer of BABA induced resistance whereas the S-enantiomer did not, suggesting binding to a specific receptor. Other compounds known to be involved in SAR signaling, including abscisic acid, methyl-jasmonate, ethylene, sodium-salicylate and Bion® (BTH) did not induce resistance. Systemic translocation of 14C-BABA and systemic protection against downy mildew were tightly correlated. BABA did not affect spore germination, appressorium formation, or penetration of B. lactucae into the host. Epifluorescence and confocal microscopy revealed that BABA induced rapid encasement with callose of the primary infection structures of the pathogen, thus preventing it from further developing intercellular hyphae and haustoria. Invaded host cells treated with BABA did not accumulate phenolics, callose or lignin, or express HR. In contrast, cells of genetically-resistant cultivars accumulated phenolics, callose and lignin and exhibited HR within one day after inoculation. The callose synthesis inhibitor DDG did not inhibit callose encasement nor compromised the resistance induced by BABA. PR-proteins accumulated too late to be responsible for the induced resistance. DAB staining indicated that BABA induced a rapid accumulation of H2O2 in the penetrated epidermal host cells. Whether H2O2 stops the pathogen directly or via another metabolic route is not known.  相似文献

Daylily rust fungus, Puccinia hemerocallidis, was proven to host-alternate between a wild daylily, Hemerocallis fulva var. longituba, and a patrinia, Patrinia villosa. No proof was obtained for the early belief that the fungus is pathogenic to plantainlilies, Hosta species, in addition to daylilies, Hemerocallis species. The fungus seems to alternate regularly between daylilies and patrinias in Japan because most daylily species are deciduous, and a vegetatively reproducing stage of the pathogen does not seem capable of successfully overwintering free of the living host tissue.  相似文献
