Six Wagyu (Japanese Black) steers fitted with a ruminal cannula were used in a split‐plot design experiment comprising a 3 × 3 Latin square design (whole plot) and a randomized blocks design (subplot) to determine the effect of the treatment of potato pulp (PP) with urea and the effect of inclusion levels of PP silage in feed supplement on digestibility, ruminal in situ degradation and ruminal fermentation. The whole plot consisted of 20%, 50% and 80% PP silage (dry matter (DM) basis), with PP silage replacing formula feed. The subplot included untreated or 0.5% (on an as‐fed basis) urea‐treated PP. The treatment of PP with urea showed no effect on DM intake and digestibility. The percentage of the rapidly degradable DM fraction of the urea‐treated PP silage was higher (P < 0.01) and the percentage of its slowly degradable DM fraction was lower (P < 0.01) than for the untreated PP silage. Ruminal ammonia concentration was greater (P < 0.01) for steers fed urea‐treated PP silage than that for steers fed the untreated PP silage. The treatment of PP with urea caused a decrease in the molar proportion of acetate and an increase in the proportion of propionate in ruminal fluid after feeding. The rate of DM degradations in hay (linear, P < 0.01) and in PP silage decreased (linear, P < 0.01) as the inclusion level of PP silage increased. Increasing the inclusion level of PP silage in supplement decreased the effective degradability of DM in hay (linear, P < 0.05) and in PP silage (linear, P < 0.05). An increase in the amount of PP silage increased the molar proportion of acetate (linear, P < 0.01) and decreased the butyrate proportion (linear, P < 0.05) in ruminal fluid. The results suggest that urea treatment of PP facilitates microbial access to starch of PP silage in the rumen and that surplus level of PP silage in supplement have adverse effect on ruminal digestion.  相似文献

A 3 X 3 replicated Latin square design was used to evaluate three isonitrogenous supplements designed to supply 250 g crude protein (CP) daily. Measurements included in situ dry matter (DM) and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) fermentation and ruminal dilution rates. Supplements contained beet pulp plus DL-methionine and urea (MET), ammonium sulfate and urea (U) or soybean meal (SBM). Six mature, ruminally cannulated crossbred beef cows were individually fed supplement and a mixture (63% NDF and 6.1% CP) of chopped 75% grass hay and 25% barley straw in ad libitum. Fermentation rate of DM was increased (P less than .05) by 30% with MET in comparison to SBM or U (9.54 vs 7.28% and 7.74%/h for MET, SBM and U, respectively). Even though MET improved fermentation rate by 30%, particle dilution rate was more important in affecting ruminal digestibility than fermentation rate. Two 90-d heifer growth trials were conducted to evaluate similar supplements. Supplements similar to those used in the in situ trial were mixed with roughage to provide a complete diet balanced for .3 kg daily gain. Heifers consumed 112% of the National Research Council CP requirement. Weight gain, intake and feed conversion were similar (P greater than .10) for all treatments. In heifer trial 2, 90% of the National Research Council CP requirement was fed. The heifers supplemented with MET and SBM had faster (P less than .05) weight gains than heifers receiving U. These studies show that feeding DL-methionine with urea, as compared with feeding an isonitrogenous supplement containing SBM, increased the fermentation rate of DM.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

Six ruminally cannulated Wagyu (Japanese Black) steers (average initial bodyweight (BW) 387 ± 29 kg) were used in a split‐plot design experiment, comprising a 3 × 3 Latin square design (whole plot) and a randomized block design (subplot). The whole plot treatments were three different feeding levels of supplemental diet, fed at 0.2, 0.4 and 0.6% of BW, on a dry matter (DM) basis. Subplot treatments were two different supplemental diets: a potato pulp silage‐based diet (PPS) and a grain‐based diet (GRAIN). Chopped, medium‐quality cool‐season grass hay (predominately Timothy, Phleum pratense L) was fed daily at 0.7% BW (on a DM basis) as the basal diet. Each period consisted of 21 d, which included 11 d of adaptation to the diets and 10 d of the collection period. Chromium oxide was used as an indigestible marker. In situ forage degradation was measured using the nylon bag technique. The dry matter intake increased (linear; P < 0.01) as the feeding level increased and was not affected by the diet. Digestibility was not affected by any treatments. The GRAIN diet tended to decrease the rate of in situ forage degradation as the feeding level increased, but this trend was not found in the steers fed the PPS diet. Steers fed the GRAIN diet had a lower (P < 0.1) ruminal pH compared with steers fed the PPS diet. Ruminal pH was not significantly affected by feeding level; however, it was numerically higher for steers supplemented at 0.2% per BW than that for the steers supplemented above 0.4% per BW due probably to the higher starch intake. The total volatile fatty acids concentration numerically increased as the feeding level increased and was not affected by the diet. Increasing the feeding level decreased (linear, P < 0.01) the proportion of acetate. Neither diet nor the feeding level had any effects on the proportion of ruminal propionate. The results suggested that, for steers fed the PPS diet, there are not adverse effects on forage digestion in the rumen that occur as the feeding level is increased.  相似文献

Measurements were taken on 216 cows with 469 calvings for weight at weaning, condition at weaning, milk yield, milk fat percentage, milk lactose percentage, milk protein percentage, dry period feed intake, lactation period feed intake, total feed intake, first-service pregnancy rate, pregnancy rate, and days to pregnancy. Measurements were also taken on 183 heifers for first-service pregnancy rate, days to pregnancy, and age at first calving. The data spanned the years 1980 to 1988; animals belonged to one of four breeding systems: Hereford, small rotation (Angus, Gelbvieh, Pinzgauer, Tarentaise), large rotation (Charolais, Maine Anjou, Simmental), and Angus-large rotation (cows with Angus sires and large-rotation dams). Maine Anjou-sired cows had lower annual feed intake and Charolais-sired heifers lower first-service pregnancy rate than the other large-rotation breeds. Gelbvieh-sired cows had lower milk lactose and protein percentages than the other small-rotation breeds. Within breeding system neither cow weight nor milk yield were significantly associated with reproductive traits of cows. No differences among breeding systems in associations between feed intakes and weights or milk yields were detected.  相似文献

Four Japanese black beef cows were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square to evaluate the fermentation quality, digestibility, ruminal fermentation and preference of total mixed ration (TMR) silages prepared with differing proportions of apple pomace (AP). Experimental treatments were the control (no AP added, CAP), 5% (low, LAP), 10% (medium, MAP) and 20% (high, HAP) of TMR dry matter (DM) as AP. All TMR silages were well preserved. Ethanol was produced in silages containing AP and the amount increased with the proportion of AP (P < 0.05). Nutrient digestibility with LAP, MAP and HAP treatment was lower than that with CAP treatment (P < 0.05). The ruminal molar proportion of acetic acid increased (P < 0.05), but the ruminal ammonia‐N concentration decreased (P < 0.05) as the proportion of AP increased. The preference of the animals was highest for HAP, followed by MAP, CAP and LAP. This study demonstrates that decrease in nutrient digestibility might be related to the ethanol produced naturally from AP. Therefore, the proportion of AP in TMR silages should be less than 5% of dietary DM.  相似文献

Quarter milk samples from 51 purebred (Angus, Polled Hereford, and Simmental) and 69 crossbred (Angus x Simmental x Charolais three-way cross) beef cows were collected aseptically at three times during lactation to determine the prevalence of intramammary infection, milk somatic cell counts (SCC), and effects of infection on calf weight gain. Quarter infection prevalence was 13.1, 14.9, and 27.5% in early, mid, and late lactation; corresponding cow infection prevalence was 25.8, 29.2, and 54.4%. Staphylococcus aureus was isolated from 2.9, 2.7, and 3.2% of quarters in early, mid, and late lactation, respectively. Corynebacterium bovis, generally regarded as a minor pathogen, was isolated from 4.0, 7.6, and 18.2% of quarters at the three respective times. Geometric SCC means (10(3) cells/ml) were 1,522, 344, and 509 for S. aureus-infected quarters; 344, 899, and 221 for Staphylococcus hyicus-infected quarters; 65, 36, and 86 for C. bovis-infected quarters; and 20, 17, and 18 for uninfected quarters in early, mid, and late lactation, respectively. Adjusted 205-d weight gain for calves with S. aureus-infected dams was 9.6 kg less (P less than .05) than for calves with uninfected dams. Adjusted 205-d weight gain for calves with dams infected with any mastitis pathogen did not differ significantly from that of calves with uninfected dams. At weaning half of the infected cows and half of the uninfected cows were given an intramammary infusion product containing 300 mg of cephapirin benzathine in each quarter; the remaining cows were untreated controls. Quarter samples were collected aseptically from all cows 14 to 28 d after subsequent calving. Quarter prevalence of infection after calving was lower (P less than .05) in treated (8.2%) than in control (22.4%) cows. Significantly more infections present at weaning were eliminated in treated than in control cows, but the new infection rate during the dry period and early lactation did not differ between the two groups.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate the effects of slow-release urea (SRU) versus feed-grade urea on ruminal metabolite characteristics in steers and DMI, gain, and G:F in growing beef steers. Experiment 1 used 12 ruminally cannulated steers (529 +/- 16 kg of BW) to monitor the behavior of SRU in the ruminal environment. Compared with feed-grade urea, SRU decreased ruminal ammonia concentration (P = 0.02) and tended to increase ruminal urease activity (P = 0.06) without affecting ruminal VFA molar proportions or total concentrations (P > 0.20). After 35 d of feeding, the in situ degradation rate of SRU was not different between animals fed urea or SRU (P = 0.48). Experiment 2 used 180 Angus-cross steers (330 +/- 2.3 kg) fed corn silage-based diets supplemented with urea or SRU for 56 d to evaluate the effects on feed intake, gain, and G:F. The design was a randomized complete block with a 2 x 4 + 1 factorial arrangement of treatments. Treatments included no supplemental urea (control) or urea or SRU at 0.4, 0.8, 1.2, or 1.6% of diet DM. Over the entire 56 d experiment, there were interactions of urea source x concentration for gain (P = 0.04) and G:F (P = 0.01) because SRU reduced ADG and G:F at the 0.4 and 1.6% supplementation concentrations but was equivalent to urea at the 0.8 and 1.2% supplementation concentrations; these effects were due to urea source x concentration interactions for gain (P = 0.06) and G:F (P = 0.05) during d 29 to 56 of the experiment. The SRU reduced DMI during d 29 to 56 (P = 0.01) but not during d 0 to 28, so that over the entire experiment there was no difference in DMI for urea source (P = 0.19). These collective results demonstrate that SRU releases N slowly in the rumen with no apparent adaptation within 35 d. Supplementation of SRU may limit N availability at low (0.4%) concentrations but is equivalent to urea at 0.8 and 1.2% concentrations.  相似文献

A 5-yr study involving 45 to 78 pregnant Hereford range cows each year evaluated relationships among prepartum nutrition, body condition scores, BW changes and reproductive performance. Four prepartum nutritional treatments were imposed. One group of cows were fed to maintain (M) their November BW until calving in March and April. The other three groups of cows were fed to lose about 5% of their November BW by 8 wk before parturition, then to maintain BW (LM), lose an additional 5% of their BW (LL) or gain 5% of their BW (LG). After calving, all cows were fed to maintain BW. Body condition scores and BW were recorded every 14 d throughout the trial. Linear regression analyses were conducted to examine treatment effects on BW, body condition score and measures of reproductive performance. A discriminant analysis was performed on pregnancy rate and percentage of cows with ovarian luteal activity by 85 d after parturition. The M cows had a greater pregnancy rate (71%) than cows on other treatment groups. The LL cows had a reduced pregnancy rate (42%) compared with LM (51%) and LG (58%) cows. Prepartum nutritional treatment did not affect the days from parturition to conception. Precalving body condition score and November to January BW changes influenced pregnancy rate (P less than .001). Effects of supplemental glucose and degradable intake protein on nutrient digestion and urea kinetics in steers (Bos taurus) given ad libitum access to prairie hay (4.7% CP) were quantified. Six ruminally and duodenally cannulated steers (initial BW 391 kg) were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square with 2 extra steers. Treatments were arranged as a 2 × 2 factorial and included 0 or 1.2 kg of glucose and 240 or 480 g of casein dosed ruminally once daily. Each period included 9 d for adaptation, 4 d for total fecal and urine collections, and 1 d for ruminal and duodenal sampling. Jugular infusion of (15)N(15)N-urea with measurement of enrichment in urine was used to measure urea kinetics. Glucose reduced forage intake by 18% (P < 0.01), but casein did not affect forage intake (P = 0.69). Glucose depressed (P < 0.01) total tract NDF digestion. Glucose supplementation decreased ruminal pH 2 h after dosing, but the effect was negligible by 6 h (treatment × time; P = 0.01). Providing additional casein increased the ruminal concentration of NH(3), but the increase was less when glucose was supplemented (casein × glucose; P < 0.01). Plasma urea-N was increased (P < 0.01) by additional casein but was reduced (P < 0.01) by glucose. Microbial N flow to the duodenum and retained N increased (P ≤ 0.01) as casein increased, but neither was affected by glucose supplementation. Urea-N entry rate increased (P = 0.03) 50% with increasing casein. Urinary urea-N excretion increased (P < 0.01) as casein increased. The proportion of urea production that was recycled to the gut decreased (P < 0.01) as casein increased. Glucose supplementation decreased (P < 0.01) urinary urea excretion but did not change (P ≥ 0.70) urea production or recycling. The amount of urea-N transferred to the gut and captured by ruminal microbes was less for steers receiving 480 g/d casein with no glucose than for the other 3 treatments (casein × glucose interaction, P = 0.05), which can be attributed to an excess of ruminally available N provided directly to the microbes from the supplement. Overall, the provision of supplemental glucose decreased forage intake and digestibility. Increasing supplemental casein from 240 to 480 g/d increased urea production but decreased the proportion of urea-N recycled to the gut.  相似文献

选取泌乳期奶牛12头,采用重复4×4拉丁方试验设计,对照组饲喂基础饲粮(A组),试验组分别在基础饲粮的基础上添加300(B组)、400(C组)、500(D组)mg/(头·d)莫能菌素,探讨饲粮中添加不同水平的莫能菌素对奶牛瘤胃发酵相关参数的影响。结果表明,饲粮中添加莫能菌素可提高瘤胃液pH值,显著降低瘤胃液微生物蛋白(MCP)、总挥发性脂肪酸(T-VFA)、乙酸含量以及乙酸/丙酸的值,增加丙酸含量(P0.05),对氨态氮(NH3-N)和丁酸没有显著性影响(P0.05);C组较对照组T-VFA和乙酸的降低程度最大,分别降低了22.71%和28.59%(P0.05);D组的MCP和乙酸/丙酸值较对照组降低程度最大,分别降低了33.99%和31.15%(P0.05;D组中丙酸的含量增加最多为9.63%(P0.05)。综上所述,奶牛饲喂400~500mg/(头·d)的莫能菌素更有利于促进瘤胃内丙酸型发酵。  相似文献

Effects of two microbial feed supplements on microbial activities in rumen-stimulating cultures and the rumens of steers fed a fescue hay-based roughage diet were evaluated. The yeast culture supplement contained Saccharomyces cerevisiae (1.4 to 4.2 x 10(9) colony-forming units [cfu]/g), whereas the mixed microbial supplement contained yeast, lactobacilli and enterococci (1.4 to 2.7 x 10(9) cfu/g, 1.2 to 2.3 x 10(9) cfu/g, and 1.5 to 2.6 x 10(10) cfu/g, respectively). Concentrations of viable yeast cells were increased consistently in continuous cultures and rumens of steers receiving either supplement (1 g/kg of feed). However, neither supplement consistently altered the relative concentrations of volatile fatty acids or ammonia in continuous cultures and rumens of steers. The pH tended to be greater (P = .13) in continuous cultures receiving yeast culture supplement than in cultures receiving the unsupplemented diet (6.50 vs 6.36), but pH in the rumens of steers was not affected by the supplements. Concentrations of cellulolytic microorganisms in cultures and the rumens of steers receiving supplements containing only yeast were from 5 to 40 times greater than those observed in cultures or steers receiving the unsupplemented diet. Supplements that had been treated with heat (121 degrees C for 15 min) to inactive yeast cells did not alter the concentrations of cellulolytic bacteria in rumen-stimulating cultures. These results suggest that live yeast culture supplements stimulate growth of cellulolytic microorganisms in the rumen.  相似文献

This study was designed to determine the influence of soybean meal supplementation, with or without additional ruminal escape protein or fat, on the nutritional status of pregnant winter-grazing beef cows. During two winters (Trials 1 and 2), approximately 60 prepartum beef cows grazed native foothills range each year. Cows were allotted randomly to five groups and supplemented (g/d) with either none (control); 570 soybean meal (SOY); 450 soybean meal plus 230 blood meal (SOY + BM); 140 soybean meal, 16 urea plus 450 corn gluten meal (SOY + CGM); or 570 soybean meal plus 210 animal fat (SOY + FAT). These supplements were designed to supply similar quantities of ruminal degraded protein while varying in escape protein quantity and source (SOY + BM and SOY + CGM). Condition scores and body weights were determined at trial initiation (mid-December) and conclusion (early March). Eight blood samples obtained over 4 d during three periods (9, 4 and 1 wk prior to parturition) were analyzed for concentrations of glucose, urea nitrogen (N), total bilirubin, creatinine, albumin, total protein and cholesterol. Cows in the control treatment experienced the greatest BW loss in both trials. In Trial 2, escape protein tended to decrease (P less than .06) BW loss compared to SOY, though loss tended to be greater (P less than .08) with SOY + CGM than with SOY + BM. Escape protein can enhance nutritional status when supplemented with .6 kg/d of soybean meal.  相似文献

本试验采用3×3因子试验设计,应用体外法研究可发酵糖、尿素及其互作对瘤胃发酵及干物质降解率(DMD)的影响.可发酵糖的添加量分别为0、1.5、3 g/L发酵液;尿素的添加量为底物DM的0、0.5%、1%.结果表明:(1)随可发酵糖添加量的增加,显著降低发酵液的pH值、发酵残渣DMD(P<0.05),显著增加细菌氮产量(P<0.05),而氨氮(NH3-N)浓度在可发酵糖添加量为1.5 g/L时最高.(2)随尿素添加量的增加,提高发酵液的pH值、NH3-N浓度(P<0.01)、细菌氮产量(P>0.05),而DMD在尿素添加量为0.5%时降低,1%时达到最高.(3)可发酵糖与尿素的互作对发酵液pH值、NH3-N浓度及细菌氮水平的影响不显著(P>0.05),但极显著影响DMD(P<0.01).  相似文献

Four experiments were conducted to evaluate the influence of changing the proportion of supplemental degradable intake protein (DIP) from urea on forage intake, digestion, and performance by beef cattle consuming either low-quality, tallgrass prairie forage (Exp. 1, 2, and 4) or forage sorghum hay (Exp. 3). Experiments 1, 2, and 3 were intended to have four levels of supplemental DIP from urea: 0, 20, 40, and 60%. However, refusal to consume the 60% supplement by cows grazing tallgrass prairie resulted in elimination of this treatment from Exp. 1 and 2. Levels of supplemental DIP from urea in Exp. 4 were 0, 15, 30, and 45%. Supplements contained approximately 30% CP, provided sufficient DIP to maximize digestible OM intake (DOMI) of low-quality forage diets, and were fed to cows during the prepartum period. In Exp. 1, 12 Angus x Hereford steers (average initial BW = 379) were assigned to the 0, 20, and 40% treatments. Forage OM intake, DOMI, OM, and NDF digestion were not affected by urea level. In Exp. 2, 90 pregnant, Angus x Hereford cows (average initial BW = 504 kg and body condition [BC] = 5.0) were assigned to the 0, 20, and 40% treatments. Treatment had little effect on cow BW and BC changes and calf birth weight, ADG, or weaning weight. However, pregnancy rate tended to be lowest (P = 0.13) for the greatest level of urea. In Exp. 3, 120 pregnant, crossbred beef cows (average initial BW = 498 kg and BC = 4.6) were assigned to the 0, 20, 40, and 60% treatments. Prepartum BC change tended (P = 0.08) to be quadratic (least increase for 60% treatment), although BW change was not statistically significant. Treatment effect on calf birth weight was inconsistent (cubic; P = 0.03), but calf ADG and weaning weight were not affected by treatment. Pregnancy rate was not affected by prepartum treatment. In Exp. 4, 132 pregnant, Angus x Hereford cows (average initial BW = 533 and BC = 5.3) were assigned to the 0, 15, 30, and 45% treatments. Prepartum BC loss was greatest (quadratic; P = 0.04) for the high-urea (45%) treatment, although BW loss during this period declined linearly (P < 0.01). Prepartum treatment did not affect pregnancy rate, calf birth weight, or ADG. In conclusion, when sufficient DIP was offered to prepartum cows to maximize low-quality forage DOMI, urea could replace between 20 and 40% of the DIP in a high-protein (30%) supplement without significantly altering supplement palatability or cow and calf performance.  相似文献

Six ruminally cannulated beef steers were used in a 6 x 6 Latin square experiment with a 3 x 2 factorial arrangement of treatments to evaluate the effects of barley supplementation (BS; 10, 30 or 50% of diet DM) and ruminal buffer (RB; Na sesquicarbonate at 0 or 4% of BS DM) addition to bromegrass hay-based diets on digestion. When early- (boot) and late- (full maturity) havested bromegrass and wheat straw substrates were incubated in situ, no interactions (P greater than .10) involving substrate with dietary BS or RB were observed, indicating that forages differing in fermentability responded similarly to different ruminal environments. Averaged across substrates, RB had no effect with 10% BS and a positive effect with 30% BS, but a negative effect with 50% BS diets (BS x RB, quadratic; P less than .05) for in situ DM and NDF disappearance for 18 and 24 h of incubation and for rate of disappearance of potentially degraded DM and NDF. Intakes of DM and digested DM were greater (P less than .01) for RB diets; however, RB had no effect (P greater than .10) on total tract DM and NDF digestibility. Intake and digestibility of DM increased linearly (P less than .01), whereas NDF digestibility decreased linearly (P less than .01) as BS percentage was increased in the diet. Sixty beef steers (avg initial wt 302 kg) were fed the same dietary treatments in a growth experiment. A numerical improvement in DM intake (P = .20) and ADG (P = .06) was observed when RB was provided with the 50% BS diet. Results of these experiments indicate that RB may moderate negative effects occurring on ruminal fiber digestion when grains are used to supplement forage-based diets; however, improvements in ruminal digestion were not translated effectively to improved animal productivity.  相似文献

The possibilities to use the dairy cows' body weight (BW) and its changes for diagnostic and management purposes were studied. BW data of dairy cows were obtained during the day from visiting computer-controlled feeding stations. These data were analyzed on a daily and weekly basis in relation to other performance data that were also recorded on a daily basis. The analysis showed that BW, being sensitive to dry matter intake (DMI), responds to reproductive and clinical events by detectable changes. Analyzing BW data in relation to those on milk yield (MY), allow to characterize physiological stages during lactation that can be of help in making management decisions. Possibilities to build models that use daily BW and MY data to estimate DMI, and significant physiological stages are presented and discussed in respect to their feasibility as decision-making aids.  相似文献

本试验旨在探讨高精料日粮下添加阿卡波糖对奶牛瘤胃和后肠发酵的影响。试验选用3头干奶期荷斯坦奶牛,采用3×3拉丁方试验设计,阿卡波糖添加剂量为0,0.5和1.0 g/d,试验分3期进行,每期21 d。结果表明,与对照组比较,添加阿卡波糖显著降低了奶牛瘤胃液中丙酸浓度(P<0.05),提高了乙丙比(P<0.05),但对瘤胃pH值、乳酸、乙酸、异丁酸、丁酸、异戊酸、戊酸、总挥发性脂肪酸和氨氮浓度无显著影响(P>0.05);与对照组比较,添加阿卡波糖显著降低了粪便pH值和氨氮浓度(P<0.05),提高了乳酸、丁酸和异戊酸浓度(P<0.05),但对乙酸、丙酸、异丁酸、戊酸、总挥发性脂肪酸和乙丙比无显著影响(P>0.05)。结果说明,高精料日粮下长期添加阿卡波糖虽可影响瘤胃液中个别挥发性脂肪酸的浓度,但对瘤胃整体发酵和瘤胃pH值无显著影响,此外,添加阿卡波糖可增加后肠发酵,并可能对后肠健康带来潜在危害。  相似文献
