Under fixed cutting conditions, the surface finish roughness is correlated to the grain angle. However, the means of determining the grain angle automatically and accurately is still a challenge for on-line control of the router. It is therefore necessary to develop a new technology to determine the grain angle accurately and automatically. In this research, a laser light scattering pattern was used to accurately determine the grain angle. The light scattering pattern image was a quasi-ellipse caused by the grain direction and tracheid effect. A new modified Hough transform ellipse analysis technology was adopted to determine the ellipse parameters that could be used to determine the grain angle. The results indicated that the measured grain angle using the method proposed here was accurate and effective. The measured grain angle coincided with the real grain angle. There was an insignificant difference between the measured grain angle of Japanese beech (Fagus crenata blume) and that of sugi (Cryptomeria japonica D.Don) under two machining conditions that gave planed or sawn finishes. However, the accuracy of the measured grain angle of sugi was better than that of Japanese beech for the planed finish, the accuracy of the measured grain angle of Japanese beech was better than that of sugi for the sawn finish, and the accuracy of the measured grain angle for planed samples was better than that for sawn samples of both sugi and Japanese beech.  相似文献

The split and the hole are two common defects on sugi (Cryptomeria japonica D.Don). They have a common feature in that they are associated with surface irregularities. We have developed a laser scanning system to detect the splits and the holes based on their thickness, which correlates spatially with the profile information. The displacements measured by the laser sensor were converted to pixel values to generate the displacement profile image. Both the splits and the holes manifested well in the image. A dedicated image-processing program written in Visual Basic has been developed. The defects regions were accurately located by the image processing. To identify the defects, eight recognition rules based on four features have been utilized. Furthermore, a method based on the pixel model was proposed to compute the area of the defect. The results indicated that the defects could be identified correctly, and the areas could be computed accurately using the pixels model.  相似文献

The best methods for determining surface roughness in an industrial environment are of the noncontact variety, with reproduction of the profile. The objective of this work was to compare the roughness profile obtained by a contact stylus with a commercial laser displacement sensor (LDS). Measurements were done using 15 wood species with different densities and colors, based on which special triangle profiles were prepared. The accuracy of the laser sensor was examined by statistical analysis of roughness parameters measured from the profiles. Experimental results show that LDS profiles were imitated correctly. However, LDS accuracy depends on the scanned wood properties (density and color), installation position of the sensor, and profile shape. It was found that evaluation of dark and high-density wooden surfaces was imperfect.Part of this work was presented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Kyoto, April 2000; and at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Tokyo, April 2001  相似文献

Development of accurate surface assessment technology is of vital interest to modern wood industries. In this experiment we investigated new and fast noncontacting sensors to determine their usefulness for wood surface evaluation and to verify their accuracy. Two types of laser displacement sensors [equipped with a position sensitive detector (PSD) and a charge coupled device (CCD) detector] are compared with a conventional stylus and with theoretical profiles. Hornbeam workpieces with triangular profiles of differing slope and height were used for the evaluation. The results show that resolution of both sensors decreases as the height of the profile decreases. The error ratio of the laser-scanned profiles changes as a function of profile height, in the range 5%–33%. The CCD method is superior for accurate surface roughness evaluation, although the PSD approach can still be used for monitoring the error of form in most applications.Parts of this work were presented at the 50th Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Kyoto, April 2000 and at the 51st Annual Meeting of the Japan Wood Research Society, Tokyo, April 2001  相似文献

Square lumber specimens of laser-incised Douglas fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii Franco) were treated with steam before dipping. Two types of steam (saturated steam and superheated steam), three steam-injection times (5, 10, and 20 min), four different time intervals (moving time) between steam treatment and dipping (immediate, 3, 10, and 30 min), and four different dipping times (0.5, 1, 3, and 12 h) were used in the study. The maximum absorption was 480 kg/m3 when saturated steam was injected for 20 min and the specimen was immediately dipped into liquid for 12 h. Samples treated with this condition not only absorbed the maximum amount of liquid but also penetrated over 83.4% and 87.3% of the total area along and across the grain, respectively. The optimum conditions were then applied to laser-incised sugi (Cryptomeria japonica D. Don) and Japanese larch (Larix leptolepis Gordon) where the absorption of liquid was 415 and 187 kg/m3, respectively. It was shown that initial moisture content below the fiber saturation point was good for passive impregnation. The absorption of liquid and its distribution in wood indicates that it can be a good preservative treatment method for impermeable woods.  相似文献

The thermal diffusivity, specific heat, and thermal conductivity of 13 species of wood were measured by means of the laser flash method to investigate the thermal properties of wood during the heating process. The temperature ranged from room temperature to 270°C in air or under vacuum. The thermal diffusivity varied little during the heating process up to 240°C. The values in air were larger than those under vacuum. There was a linear relation between the specific heat and the ambient temperature, and the specific heat under vacuum was larger than that in air at high temperature. The thermal conductivity increased with density and the ambient temperature. To discuss the effects of the atmospheric conditions on the thermal constants of wood, a theoretical model of thermal conductivity was proposed and its validity examined, where the wood was assumed to be a uniformly distributed material composed of cell walls and air.Part of this paper was presented at the 47th annual meeting of Japan Wood Research Society at Kochi, April 1997  相似文献

The distribution of shear strain across a 3–ply wood sheet bonded with PRF and PUR, respectively, was measured by means of electronic laser speckle interferometry. Owing to the higher shear modulus of PRF compared to PUR, shear strains were more evenly distributed in PRF bonded specimens than in PUR bonded specimens. However, considering the different shear moduli of earlywood and latewood bands in the core layer of the 3–ply sheet, it is concluded that shear stress is distributed more evenly along PUR bond lines compared to PRF bond lines. Since it is less prone to stress concentrations, PUR should provide more durable adhesive connections than stiff adhesives such as PRF.  相似文献

Airborne laser scanner (ALS)-based forest inventory method usuallyadopt a laser canopy height distribution approach in which forestcharacteristics are predicted using measures such as percentilesof the distribution of laser canopy heights across a fixed area. The method requires a ground-truth sample of accurately measuredfield plots. One possibility for reducing the costs lies inthe use of existing field plots for ground-truth purposes. Themost obvious alternative in Finland would be to use truncatedangle count sample plots of the National Forest Inventory ormore locally data of checking of inventory by compartments.Due to the lack of suitable angle count ground-truth data andcorresponding laser data, we tested this possibility using dataon fixed-area sample plots, in which tree locations were simulated. The trees for a truncated angle count sample plot were thenchosen and the resulting data together with the characteristicsof an ALS-based canopy height distribution were used to constructregression models to predict stem volume, basal area, stem number, basal area median diameter and height. The accuracy of the standattributes was found to be almost as good as in the case ofmodels of fixed-area plots.  相似文献
