Three different treatments were compared to improve pregnancy per artificial insemination (P/AI) in repeat-breeder (RB) dairy cows. All cows (n = 103) were assigned to one of four groups: (1) gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH); (2) human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG); (3) once-used controlled internal drug release (CIDR) device; and (4) control. All treatments performed 5-6 days after artificial insemination (AI) and milk samples were collected just before treatment for progesterone assays. There were no significant differences in milk fat progesterone concentration among trial groups. Cows were observed for estrus signs thrice daily. Pregnancy per AI on day 45 in hCG and CIDR groups were significantly higher than GnRH and control groups (60.0% and 56.0% vs. 26.9% and 29.6%, respectively), but there were no differences in P/AI between GnRH and control groups. There were also no significant differences between hCG and CIDR groups. Milk fat progesterone concentrations were compared between pregnant and non-pregnant cows in each group and only in the hCG group it was significantly lower in pregnant cows. In conclusion, treating repeat-breeder cows with hCG or once-used CIDR 5-6 days after AI improved P/AI. 相似文献

We examined whether progesterone (P4)-induced suppression of LH release in cattle can be overcome by an increased dose of exogenous gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) or pretreatment with estradiol (E2). In Experiment 1, postpubertal Angus-cross heifers (N = 32) had their 2 largest ovarian follicles ablated 5 d after ovulation. Concurrently, these heifers were all given a once-used, intravaginal P4-releasing insert (CIDR), and they were randomly assigned to be given either prostaglandin F2α (Low-P4) or no treatment (High-P4) at follicle ablation, and 12 h later. Six days after emergence of a new follicular wave, half of the heifers in each group (n = 8) were given either 100 or 200 μg of GnRH i.m. Plasma luteinizing hormone (LH) concentrations were higher in the Low- vs High-P4 groups, and in heifers given 200 vs 100 μg of GnRH (mean ± SEM 15.4 ± 2.2 vs 9.1 ± 1.2, and 14.8 ± 2.1 vs 9.8 ± 1.4 ng/mL, respectively; P ≤ 0.01). Ovulation rate was higher (P = 0.002) in the Low-P4 group (15/16) than in the High-P4 group (6/16), but it was not affected by GnRH dose (P = 0.4). In Experiment 2, heifers (n = 22) were treated similarly, except that 5.5 d after wave emergence, half of the heifers in each group were further allocated to be given either 0.25 mg estradiol benzoate i.m. or no treatment, and 8 h later, all heifers were given 100 μg GnRH i.m. Both groups treated with E2 (Low- and High-P4) and the Low-P4 group without E2 had higher peak plasma LH concentrations compared to the group with high P4 without E2 (12.6 ± 1.8, 10.4 ± 1.8, 8.7 ± 1.3, and 3.9 ± 1.2 ng/mL, respectively; (P < 0.04)). However, E2 pretreatment did not increase ovulation rates in response to GnRH (P = 0.6). In summary, the hypotheses that higher doses of GnRH will be more efficacious in inducing LH release and that exogenous E2 will increase LH release following treatment with GnRH were supported, but neither significantly increased ovulation rate. 相似文献

The aim of this experiment was to determine if the milk yield response of dairy cows to short-term treatment with bovine somatotropin (bST) was correlated with the non-esterified fatty-acid (NEFA) response to an adrenaline challenge. Twenty-six multiparous Holstein cows (58+/-5.4 days postpartum) received daily sub-cutaneous injections of saline for 7 days followed by sub-cutaneous injections of 20mg/day of bST for 14 days. On day 7 of the saline treatment and day 14 of the bST treatment the cows were given an intravenous injection of adrenaline (1.4 microg/kg body weight). Blood samples were taken before and after the adrenaline challenge. The difference in milk yield between the saline and the second week of bST treatment (MYR) varied considerably between animals (from -0.4 to +8.0 kg/day). MYR was positively correlated with the change in the basal concentration of NEFA between the saline and second week of bST treatment, as well as with the change in the area under the profile of NEFA above basal values following the adrenaline challenge. It remains to be established whether the greater lipolytic responses to adrenaline of the cows with the greater MYR reflects the deeper negative energy that these animals also experienced or a fundamental difference in the physiology of their adipose tissue. 相似文献

Three hundred and five Holstein Friesian cows were given either 250 micrograms gonadotrophin releasing hormone (GnRH) or saline on day 15 postpartum followed by 500 micrograms cloprostenol or saline on day 24 postpartum. Four treatment groups were formed using random allocation: Group I -- placebo (Day 15)/placebo (Day 24), Group II -- GnRH (Day 15)/placebo (Day 24), Group III -- placebo (Day 15)/cloprostenol (Day 24), Group IV -- GnRH (Day 15)/cloprostenol (Day 24). Double blind techniques were used during the follow-up period. Rectal palpation, to assess uterine involution and ovarian activity was performed just prior to each treatment and again at 28 days postpartum. In addition blood samples were collected at 15, 24 and 28 days postpartum for measurement of plasma progesterone. There were no significant differences among treatment groups with respect to services per conception, number of heats detected before first service and culling for infertility. Cows treated only with GnRH had an increased calving to first estrus and calving to first breeding interval, and tended to have an increased calving to conception interval. Treatment with cloprostenol significantly decreased calving to conception and calving to first observed estrus intervals. Treatment with GnRH on day 15 postpartum resulted in a significant increase in the subsequent incidence of pyometra and prebreeding anestrus. On the other hand, cloprostenol treatment on day 24 postpartum resulted in a decreased incidence of pyometra, regardless of GnRH treatment and a decreased incidence of prebreeding anestrus in GnRH treated cows compared to cows receiving only GnRH at day 15 postpartum.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献

The reported effects of feeding on growth hormone (GH) secretion in ruminants have been inconsistent, and are likely influenced by energy status of animals. High-producing dairy cows in early lactation and late lactation were used to assess the effects of energy balance on temporal variation of plasma metabolites and hormones. Cows were fed a single diet once daily, and feed was withdrawn for 90 min prior to feeding. Beginning at the time of feed withdrawal, plasma samples were collected via jugular catheters hourly for 24h. Concentrations of non-esterified fatty acids and GH were measured for all samples, while insulin, glucose, and acylated (active) ghrelin were quantified for four sample times around feeding. As expected, calculated energy balance was significantly lower in early lactation than late lactation cows (-43.5 MJ retained/day versus 7.2 MJ retained/day). Following the primary meal of the day, a GH surge was observed in early lactation but not in late lactation cows. This difference was not explained by temporal patterns in non-esterified fatty acid, insulin, or glucose concentrations. However, a preprandial ghrelin surge was observed in early lactation only, suggesting that ghrelin was responsible for the prandial GH surge in this group. Results of a stepwise regression statistical analysis showed that both preprandial ghrelin concentration and energy balance were significant predictors of prandial GH increase over baseline. Adaptations to negative energy balance in lactating dairy cattle likely include enhanced ghrelin secretion and greater GH response to ghrelin. 相似文献

The objectives of this observational study were to document ovarian and endocrine responses associated with the treatment of cystic ovarian follicles (COFs) in dairy cows, using gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) and prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF) with or without exogenous progesterone. A secondary objective was to determine pregnancy establishment following synchronization of ovulation and timed insemination in cows diagnosed with COFs. In trial I, 18 Holstein cows diagnosed with COFs received 2 injections of 100 microg GnRH, 9 d apart, with 25 mg PGF given 7 d after the 1st GnRH. A new follicle developed in all 18 cows after the 1st GnRH, and 83% of cows ovulated following the 2nd GnRH. Cows were inseminated 16 h after the 2nd GnRH. Of the 17 cows available for pregnancy diagnosis, 7 were confirmed pregnant. In trial II, 8 cows with COFs received GnRH and an intravaginal progesterone device (CIDR) concurrently, then PGF 7 d later. The CIDR was removed 2 d after PGF administration. Plasma estradiol concentrations declined following CIDR insertion. In all cows, a new follicle developed following GnRH treatment; estradiol-surge and estrus occurred spontaneously after CIDR-removal. Seven of 8 cows ovulated the new follicle. In dairy cows diagnosed with COFs, treatment with GnRH followed by PGF 7 d later, with or without exogenous progesterone, resulted in the recruitment of a healthy new follicle; synchronization of ovulation and timed insemination resulted in a 41% pregnancy rate. 相似文献

This study was conducted to investigate the effects of rumen-protected tryptophan (125 g tryptophan per day) in heifers and dairy cows. Blood samples from dairy cows and heifers were collected for 24h in 3-h intervals on the day before tryptophan supplementation, on day 2, 5 and 7 of tryptophan supplementation, and in heifers additionally on d 14 after tryptophan supplementation was ceased. Plasma tryptophan, melatonin, serotonin, and prolactin concentrations were determined. Tryptophan plasma concentrations on d 5 were augmented at day (11:00 h) and nighttime (02:00 h), (P<0.05) in response to tryptophan supplementation in heifers by 119% and in dairy cows by 47%, respectively, as compared with d 0. Melatonin increased (P<0.05) in response to tryptophan supplementation in heifers, but not in cows. The effect of tryptophan supplementation on plasma tryptophan and melatonin was reversible as demonstrated in heifers on d 14 after cessation of tryptophan supplementation. Serotonin and prolactin in plasma did not respond to tryptophan supplementation. However, milk yield during morning milking increased significantly in tryptophan supplemented cows on d 1, 3 and 4 as compared to the day before tryptophan supplementation. Additional blood samples were taken during afternoon milking in cows at 1-min intervals for the analyses of oxytocin and prolactin on the day before the start and on d 7 of tryptophan supplementation. Milk flow curves were recorded during milking. No effect of tryptophan supplementation on the milking related release of oxytocin and prolactin and on any characteristic of milk flow was observed. In conclusion, tryptophan supplementation caused increased plasma tryptophan in cows and heifers and plasma melatonin in heifers. However, plasma serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin release in cows remained unchanged by tryptophan supplementation. Three experiments were conducted to induce estrus and(or) ovulation in 1,590 suckled beef cows at the beginning of a spring breeding season. In Exp. 1, 890 cows at three locations were allotted to three treatments: 1) GnRH on d -7 + prostaglandin F2alpha (PGF2alpha) on d 0 (Select Synch); 2) GnRH on d -7 + PGF2alpha on d 0 (first day of the breeding season) plus a norgestomet implant (NORG) between d -7 and 0 (Select Synch + NORG); or 3) two injections of PGF2alpha given 14 d apart (2xPGF2alpha). More (P < 0.05) cycling cows were detected to have been in estrus after both treatments that included GnRH, whereas, among noncycling cows, the addition of norgestomet further increased (P < 0.05) the proportion in estrus. Pregnancy rates were greater (P < 0.01) among noncycling cows after treatments that included GnRH. For cows that calved >60 d before the onset of the breeding season, conception rates were greater (P < 0.01) than those that calved < or =60 d regardless of treatment, whereas days postpartum had no effect on rates of detected estrus. When body condition scores were < or =4 compared with >4, rates of detected estrus (P < 0.05) and conception (P = 0.07) were increased. In Exp. 2, 164 cows were treated with the Select Synch + NORG treatment and were inseminated either after estrus or at 16 h after a second GnRH injection (given 48 h after PGF2alpha). Conception and pregnancy rates tended (P = 0.08) to be or were less (P < 0.05), respectively, for noncycling cows inseminated by appointment, but pregnancy rates exceeded 53% in both protocols. In Exp. 3, 536 cows at three locations were treated with the Select Synch protocol as in Exp. 1 and inseminated either: 1) after detected estrus (Select Synch); 2) at 54 h after PGF2alpha when a second GnRH injection also was administered (Cosynch); or 3) after detected estrus until 54 h, or in the absence of estrus, at 54 h plus a second GnRH injection (Select Synch + Cosynch). Conception rates were reduced (P < 0.01) in cows that were inseminated by appointment. An interaction of AI protocol and cycling status occurred (P = 0.05) for pregnancy rates with differing results for cycling and noncycling cows. Across experiments, variable proportions of cows at various locations (21 to 78%) were cycling before the breeding season. With the GnRH or GnRH + NORG treatments, ovulation was induced in some noncycling cows. Conception rates were normal and pregnancy rates were greater than those after a PGF2alpha program, particularly when inseminations occurred after detected estrus. 相似文献

Finland’s cold loose-housing systems for dairy cows were compared with the more traditional warm loose-housing systems regarding the incidences of ketosis, mastitis, metritis, parturient paresis and ovarian disorders. Approximately 5000 calvings on 210 farms during the years 1996 and 1997 were modelled, using multilevel Poisson regression and multilevel logistic-regression in a retrospective observational cohort study. Cows in a cold loose-housing system were at lower odds for developing late mastitis (15–305 days in milk), and metritis (Friesian breed); of the same odds for ketosis and early mastitis (0–14 days in milk); but at higher odds for developing parturient paresis and metritis (Ayrshire breed). The estimated odds ratio for ovarian disorders depended on the definition for exposure. Although one of the differences was statistically significant and many of them of veterinary interest, none of them appear to be substantial for the economy of a median-sized dairy farm in Finland. 相似文献

Lungworm antibody ELISAs developed in Germany (DE) and The Netherlands (NL) were compared using four sets of serum (S) and bulk-tank milk (BTM) samples from adult dairy cows. The samples originated from 37 farms with or without a suspected clinical lungworm infection during August–October 2010 (Dataset 1), from cows excreting lungworm larvae or not during August–October 2010 (n = 59) or May–June 2011 (n = 164) (Dataset 2), from 305 farms in a national survey during October 2010 (Dataset 3), and 14 zero-grazing farms during February–April 2011 (Dataset 4).During August–October 2010, covering the second half of the grazing season, the NL-S and NL-BTM ELISA outperformed the DE-S and DE-BTM ELISAs in terms of sensitivity. For at least the NL-S and DE-S ELISA the opposite was found during May–June 2011, covering the end of the winter housing period and the early grazing season. Of the 305 farms in the survey 62.6% were found positive with the NL-BTM ELISA, whereas 2.6% was found positive with the DE-BTM ELISA. ODR values for the zero-grazing farms indicated that a cut-off value of 30% for the DE-BTM ELISA might be more appropriate than the currently used 41%. Results suggest that the NL ELISAs also respond to lungworm antigens other than Major Sperm Protein as used in the DE ELISAs.It is concluded that the generally higher sensitivity of the NL-BTM ELISA makes it better suited for large-scale prevalence studies and herd health monitoring programmes than the DE-BTM ELISA, positivity of which is more associated with the presence of clinical lungworm infection. Reducing the cut-off value of the DE-BTM ELISA from the original 49.3% to the current 41% or the possibly more appropriate 30% increased its sensitivity for detecting lungworm infections, but did not lead to similar sensitivity estimates as found for the NL-BTM ELISA. 相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to evaluate whether hCG administered 7 d before initiating the CO-Synch + controlled internal drug release (CIDR) ovulation synchronization protocol (Exp. 1 and 2), or replacing GnRH with hCG at the time of AI (Exp. 1), would improve fertility to a fixed-time AI (TAI) in suckled beef cows. In addition, the effects of hCG on follicle dynamics, corpus luteum development, and concentrations of progesterone (P4) were evaluated. In Exp. 1, cows were stratified by days postpartum, age, and parity and assigned randomly to a 2 × 2 factorial arrangement of 4 treatments: 1) cows received 100 μg of GnRH at CIDR insertion (d -7) and 25 mg of PGF(2α) at CIDR removal (d 0), followed in 64 to 68 h by a TAI plus a second injection of GnRH at TAI (CG; n = 29); 2) same as CG but the second injection of GnRH at the time of insemination was replaced by hCG (CH; n = 28); 3) same as CG, but cows received hCG 7 d (d -14) before CIDR insertion (HG; n = 28); and 4) same as HG, but cows received hCG 7 d (d -14) before CIDR insertion (HH; n = 29). Pregnancy rates were 52, 41, 59, and 38% for GG, GH, HG, and HH, respectively. Cows receiving hCG (39%) in place of GnRH at TAI tended (P = 0.06) to have poorer pregnancy rates than those receiving GnRH (56%). Pre-CO-Synch hCG treatment increased (P < 0.05) the percentage of cows with concentrations of P4 >1 ng/mL at d -7, increased (P < 0.02) concentration of P4 on d -7, and decreased (P < 0.001) the size of the dominant follicle on d 0 and 3, compared with cows not treated with hCG on d -14. In Exp. 2, cows were stratified based on days postpartum, BCS, breed type, and calf sex and then assigned to the CG (n = 102) or HG (n = 103) treatments. Overall pregnancy rates were 51%, but no differences in pregnancy rates were detected between treatments. Pre-CO-Synch hCG treatment increased (P < 0.05) the percentage of cows cycling on d -7 and increased (P < 0.05) concentrations of P4 on d -7 compared with pre-CO-Synch controls. Therefore, pretreatment induction of ovulation after hCG injection 7 d before initiation of CO-Synch + CIDR protocol failed to enhance pregnancy rates, but replacing GnRH with hCG at the time of AI may reduce pregnancy rates. 相似文献

The objective of the present study was to examine the changes in innate immune factors in milk during the estrous cycle in dairy cows. Milk was collected from cows with a normal ovulatory cycle and cows subjected to the OVSYNCH protocol, and somatic cell counts (SCC), lingual antimicrobial peptide (LAP) concentrations and lactoperoxidase (LPO) activity in milk were measured. In cows with a normal ovulatory cycle, there was no significant change in LAP concentrations and SCC during the ovulatory cycle. However, LPO activity at days 0 and 19 (day 0 = day of ovulation) were significantly higher than those at days 10, 12 and 15. In cows subjected to the OVSYNCH protocol, a significant increase in SCC was observed at day 9 (2 days after prostaglandin treatment) compared with that at day 11 (2 days after second administration of gonadotropin). There were no significant changes in LAP concentrations and LPO activity during the OVSYNCH protocol. These results indicate that LPO activity, an innate immune factor, was enhanced in the preovulatory period. 相似文献

This study was conducted to evaluate the influence of category (heifers, primiparous or multiparous cows) on pregnancy rates in a large scale resynchronization ovulation program. Nelore heifers (n = 903), primiparous lactating cows (n = 338) and multiparous lactating cows (n = 1,223) were synchronized using a conventional protocol of estradiol/P4-based fixed-time artificial insemination (FTAI). Thirty days after ultrasonography, females who failed the first FTAI were resynchronized with the same hormonal protocol prior to a second FTAI. The pregnancy status of each cohort was evaluated by ultrasonography 30 days after each FTAI. The average conception rate after the first FTAI and resynchronization was 80.5%. Heifers had a higher conception rate (85%) than primiparous (76%) or multiparous cows (78%; p = 0.0001). The conception rate after the first FTAI was similar among heifers (57%), primiparous cows (51%) and multiparous cows (56%; p = 0.193). After the second FTAI, heifers exhibited a higher conception rate (66%) than primiparous or multiparous cows (51%; p = 0.0001). These results demonstrate the feasibility of resynchronization in large beef herds for providing consistent pregnancy rates in a short period of time. We also demonstrated that ovulation resynchronization 30 days after FTAI is particularly effective for heifers, providing a conception rate of up to 66%. 相似文献

The present study examined the effect of three dose levels of LHRH (50, 100 and 250 micrograms) for the treatment of cystic ovarian disease in lactating dairy cows. The main results are given in Table I. A total of 52 cows were treated; 14 cows with 50 micrograms of LHRH, 24 with 100 micrograms, and 14 with 250 micrograms. No statistically significant differences were found in the clinical response between the 3 treatment groups. Compared to the reproductive performance of the rest of the herd, in which the study took place, the reproductive performance after treatment indicated a good overall response to treatment. Progesterone analyses performed on milk or plasma on the day of treatment in 28 cases (Table II) revealed that 25% of the treated cows had elevated levels of progesterone in milk or plasma on the day of treatment. Progesterone "profiles" based on 4 samples in 5 cows (Figure 1) indicated that unnecessary retreatments may, to some extent, have been performed in this study. 相似文献

The aims of this study were 1) to determine whether dairy cows can be induced to ovulate by the treatment with gonadotropin releasing hormone (GnRH) followed by prostaglandin F(2 alpha) (PGF(2 alpha)) during the early postpartum period and 2) to describe their ovarian and hormonal responses according to ovarian status. Cows were divided in two groups and received 10 microg of buserelin followed by 500 microg of cloprostenol 7 days apart starting from 21 (GnRH21, n=7) or around 37 days postpartum (GnRH37, n=7). The groups were further classified according to presence (-CL) or absence (-NCL) of functional corpora lutea (CL) on the day of GnRH treatment (d 0): GnRH21-NCL (n=4), GnRH21-CL (n=3) and GnRH37-CL (n=7). Ovarian morphology was monitored and the concentrations of P(4), E(2), FSH and insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) were measured. All cows ovulated after administration of GnRH. The P(4) levels of the GnRH21-NCL group from d 0 to d 5 were lower than those of the GnRH21-CL (P<0.05) and GnRH37-CL groups (P<0.01). In contrast, the E(2) levels of the GnRH21-NCL group within d 2 to d 6 were higher (P<0.05) than those of the other groups. Compared with the GnRH37-CL group, the GnRH21-NCL group had more small follicles on d 2 (P<0.05), d 3 (P<0.01) and d 4 (P<0.01) and more large follicles on d 5 (P<0.05). The induced CL and new ovulatory follicles were larger in the GnRH21-NCL group compared with the GnRH21-CL (P<0.001 and P<0.01) and GnRH37-CL groups (P<0.001 and P<0.05). IGF-1 did not differ among the groups. The GnRH21-NCL group had higher FSH levels than the GnRH21-CL (P<0.01) and GnRH37-CL groups (P<0.001) on d 0. Low P(4) and high FSH levels may suggest higher gonadotropin support on the enhanced ovarian morphology of the GnRH21-NCL group. PGF(2 alpha) treatment induced CL regression and subsequent ovulation in 3/4 (75%), 3/3 (100%) and 7/7 (100%) cows in the GnRH21-NCL, GnRH21-CL and GnRH37-CL groups, respectively. In conclusion, a 7-day GnRH-PGF(2 alpha) synchronization protocol can effectively induce dairy cows to ovulate as early as 21 days postpartum, regardless of ovarian status. 相似文献

The objectives of this study were to 1) compare cumulative pregnancy rates in a traditional management (TM) scheme with those using a synchronization of ovulation protocol (CO-Synch + CIDR) for timed AI (TAI) in Bos indicus-influenced cattle; 2) evaluate ovarian and hormonal events associated with CO-Synch + CIDR and CO-Synch without CIDR; and 3) determine estrual and ovulatory distributions in cattle synchronized with Select-Synch + CIDR. The CO-Synch + CIDR regimen included insertion of a controlled internal drug-releasing device (CIDR) and an injection of GnRH (GnRH-1) on d 0, removal of the CIDR and injection of PGF2alpha (PGF) on d 7, and injection of GnRH (GnRH-2) and TAI 48 h later. For Exp. 1, predominantly Brahman x Hereford (F1) and Brangus females (n = 335) were stratified by BCS, parity, and day postpartum (parous females) before random assignment to CO-Synch + CIDR or TM. To maximize the number of observations related to TAI conception rate (n = 266), an additional 96 females in which TM controls were not available for comparison also received CO-Synch + CIDR. Conception rates to TAI averaged 39 +/- 3% and were not affected by location, year, parity, AI sire, or AI technician. Cumulative pregnancy rates were greater (P < 0.05) at 30 and 60 d of the breeding season in CO-Synch + CIDR (74.1 and 95.9%) compared with TM (61.8 and 89.7%). In Exp. 2, postpartum Brahman x Hereford (F1) cows (n = 100) were stratified as in Exp. 1 and divided into 4 replicates of 25. Within each replicate, approximately one-half (12 to 13) received CO-Synch + CIDR, and the other half received CO-Synch only (no CIDR). No differences were observed between treatments, and the data were pooled. Percentages of cows ovulating to GnRH-1, developing a synchronized follicular wave, exhibiting luteal regression to PGF, and ovulating to GnRH-2 were 40 +/- 5, 60 +/- 5, 93 +/- 2, and 72 +/- 4%, respectively. In Exp. 3, primiparous Brahman x Hereford, (F1) heifers (n = 32) and pluriparous cows (n = 18) received the Select Synch + CIDR synchronization regimen (no GnRH-2 or TAI). Mean intervals from CIDR removal to estrus and ovulation, and from estrus to ovulation were 70 +/- 2.9, 99 +/- 2.8, and 29 +/- 2.2 h, respectively. These results indicate that the relatively low TAI conception rate observed with CO-Synch + CIDR in these studies was attributable primarily to failure of 40% of the cattle to develop a synchronized follicular wave after GnRH-1 and also to inappropriate timing of TAI/GnRH-2. 相似文献

Holstein-Friesian cows (n=204) were given saline solution or 200 microgram of gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) by intramuscular injection at 8 to 23 days after parturition. Of cows culled, fewer GnRH-treated cows were culled for infertility, compared with number of cows given saline solution (26 vs 57%; P less than 0.05). Frequency of ovarian follicular cysts was reduced from 15.2% in controls to 5.7% for cows given GnRH (P less than 0.01). The interval to 1st insemination, interval to conception, and inseminations per conception did not differ among saline solution or GnRH-treated cows which remained in the herds. These data provide evidence for reduction in infertility and reproductive disorders in early postpartum dairy cows given GnRH as a prophylactic. 相似文献

AIMS: (a) To compare the reproductive performance of anovulatory anoestrous (AA) postpartum dairy cows following treatment with 1 of 2 progesterone (P4) and oestradiol benzoate (ODB)-based treatment regimens; (b) To determine whether resynchronisation of cows initially treated for AA would improve reproductive performance and; (c) to determine whether cows not detected in oestrus but with a corpus luteum (CL) present (NDO/CL+), treated with P4 and ODB, would conceive earlier than untreated controls. METHODS: Cows (n=1386) from 11 herds, that had not been detected in oestrus before the start of the seasonal mating period (PSM) and in which a CL was not detected were diagnosed AA, blocked by age (2 or >2 years old), then randomly assigned to be treated with an intravaginal P4-releasing device for either 6 (6-Day group) or 8 days (8-Day group). Cows in the 8-Day group were injected intramuscularly (IM) with 2 mg ODB at device insertion and all cows were injected with 1 mg ODB 24 h after device removal (Day 0). Cows detected in oestrus from Days 0-3 were subsequently assigned to be either resynchronised or left as untreated controls. Resynchronised cows had a used P4-releasing device reinserted on Day 14 for 8 days and were injected with 1 mg ODB at device reinsertion and again 24 h after device removal. NDO/CL+ cows were assigned to be either treated the same as the 8-Day group or left as untreated controls. All cows were inseminated on detection of oestrus and pregnancy tested approximately 10 weeks after the PSM and again 6-8 weeks after the end of the mating period. RESULTS: For AA cows, the 14-day submission rate was similar between 6-Day and 8-Day groups (p0.1). However, the pregnancy rate by Day 14 was higher for the 8-Day than the 6Day group (43.0% vs 35.2%; p=0.006). Resynchrony treatment decreased the 14-day pregnancy rate compared with untreated controls (35.2% vs 42.5%; p=0.026). The resynchrony treatment increased the submission rate between Days 14-28 for non-pregnant cows compared with untreated controls (80.6% vs 57.4%; p=0.049). However, conception rate to resynchronised heats was lower than for cows that returned to oestrus naturally (56.6% vs 67.9%; p=0.025). Neither initial treatment type nor resynchrony treatment increased the 28-day pregnancy rate (p>0.1). There were no differences between treatment groups in the final non-pregnant rate (4.5% vs 4.6%; p>0.1). Treated NDO/CL+ cows had a higher 14-day submission rate (88.1% vs 49.4%; p>0.001), higher 14-day and 28-day pregnancy rates (42.9% vs 20.7%, p>0.001 and; 56.0% vs 42.5%, p=0.094, respectively) and conceived earlier (21 vs 36 days from PSM to median day of conception; p>0.05), than untreated NDO/CL+ cows. CONCLUSIONS: The 8-Day, ODB-P4-ODB treatment regimen resulted in a higher pregnancy rate by 14 days but not 28 days than the 6-Day, P4-ODB treatment. The resynchrony treatment increased the proportion of non-pregnant cows inseminated on days 14-28, but did not increase the 28-day pregnancy rate or final pregnancy rate. Treatment of NDO/CL+ cows with the 8-Day, ODB-P4-ODB treatment improved reproductive performance compared with no treatment. 相似文献
