Epidemiological studies on some gastrointestinal nematodes of sheep and goats in Karnal, Ambala and Rohtak districts of Haryana (India) revealed that Haemonchus contortus and Trichostrongylus spp. were responsible for parasitic gastroenteritis in these hosts. The adult parasites persisted in the host throughout the year and there was no indication of hypobiosis. The maintenance of the parasite population depended on a continuous cycle of infection between the host and the pasture. The agroclimatic conditions of the districts revealed that, in general, favourable weather conditions for the development and survival of the free-living stages of the parasites existed all year round. 相似文献

Summary Theileria infection of Hyalomma ticks collected from three districts of Haryana was assessed in whole salivary glands by the
methyl-green pyronin staining method. Of 1,662 ticks screened, 546 (32·8%) were found Theileria positive. Infection rate in
935 female ticks (36·9%) was more than that of 727 male ticks (27·6%). Density of Theileria infection (number of infected
acini per infected tick) was also higher in female ticks.Theileria infection rate of ticks varied greatly in the three districts viz. only 12·0% in Rohtak, 25·8% in Hisar and 48·3% in Karnal.
Per cent infection rate was high (63·7%) in ticks from indigenous cattle and low (18·6%) in those collected from buffaloes.
However, the intensity of infection in infected ticks from cross-bred cattle was comparatively much higher. Frequency distribution
ofTheileria positive acini in infected ticks revealed a low density of infection per infected tick. This points to the largely stable
endemic situation prevailing in Haryana. Only a single salivary acinus was found infected in 16·6% of the infected ticks,
about 70% had up to 10 infected acini while only about 10% had over 25 infected acini per tick. The masses in acini presumed
to beTheileria were confirmed by demonstrating parasitic masses on staining one of a pair of salivary glands and inoculating the suspension
of the other half of the gland into two cross-bred cow calves which developed clinical signs and lesions typical of theileriosis.
Resumen Se determinó la infectividad theilérica de garraptasHyaloma colectadas en tres distritos de Haryana, examinando las glándulas salivares mediante el método de coloración de la pironina verde-metilo. De 1662 ácaros examinados, 546 (32·8%) se encontraron positivas a theileria. La frecuencia de infección en 935 hembras (36·9%) fue más alta que la encontrada en 727 machos (27·6%). El número de acinos infectados por garrapata infectada fue tambien superior en garrapatas hembras. La fracuencia de la infección theilérica vario en tres distritos. Se encontro el 12·0% en Rohtak, 25·8% en Hisar y 48·3% en Karnal. La frequencia de infección por ciento fue alta (63·7%) en garrapatas de ganado criollo y bajo (18·6%) en aquellas colectadas de búfalos. Sin embargo, la frecuencia de infección en garrapatas de ganado cruzado, fue comparativamente más alta. La frecuencia de distribución de acinos positivos a theileria en garrapatas infectadas, reveló una baja densidad de infección por garrapata infectada. Esto se?ala una situación endémica estable prevalente en Haryana. Solamente un acino salivar se encontro infectado en el 16·6% de gappapatas infectadas, cerca del 70·0% tuvo arriba de 10 acinos infectados, mientras que solamente et 10·0% tuvo sobre los 25 acinos infectados, por garrapata. Las masas de acinos presumiblemente de theileria, se confirmaron mediante la tinción de la glándula salivar e inoculando parte de ella en terneros cruzados, los cuales desarrollaron theileriosis.
Résumé L’infection theilerienne desHyalomma récoltées dans 3 districts de l’Haryana a été examinée sur les glandes salivaires totales par la méthode de coloration au vert de méthyle-pyronine. Sur 1662 tiques, 546 (soit 32,8 p. 100) ont été trouvées positives pour lesTheileria. Le taux d’infection (36,9 p. 100) de 935 tiques femelles est supérieur à celui de 727 males (27,6 p. 100). La densité de l’infection parTheileria (nombre d’acini infectés par tique infectée) est plus grande chez les tiques femelles. Le taux d’infection des tiques varie considérablement selon le district: 12,0 p. 100 dans le Rohtak, 25,8 p. 100 dans l’Hisar et 48,3 p. 100 dans le Karnal. Il est élevé (63,7 p. 100) chez les tiques collectées sur du bétail indigène et bas sur celles prélevées sur des buffles (18,6 p. 100). Cependant, l’intensité de l’infection des tiques prélevées sur du bétail métis est comparativement plus grand. La fréquence de distribution des acini positifs pour lesTheileria chez les tiques infectées révèle une faible intensité d’infection par tique. Ceci montre la situation endémique stable existant dans l’Haryana. On n’a trouvé qu’un seul acinus infecté chez 16,6 p. 100 des tiques infectées; environ 70 p. 100 ont jusqu’à 10 acini infectés tandis que 10 p. 100 ont plus de 25 acini infectés. Les masses présentes dans les acini et présumées être desTheileria ont été confirmées être ces agents par coloration de l’une des paires de glandes salivaires et inoculation de l’autre à deux veaux métis qui ont developpé des signes cliniques et des lésions typiques de theileriose.相似文献

Epidemiology of ovine listeriosis in Great Britain 总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
A retrospective study of 75 sheep flocks affected with listeriosis during January to June 1982 was made. Seven flocks experienced more than one form of listeriosis. Encephalitis was the commonest form, occurring in 60 flocks, and only lambs were affected in 10 of these flocks. In the remaining 50 flocks only single cases in adults were recorded in eight flocks. The mean attack rate for encephalitis in adults was 2.5 per cent. Listeric abortions occurred in 18 flocks and was the only form of listeriosis in 13 flocks. Silage was fed in 59 of the affected 60 flocks. A significant association between silage feeding and the development of listeric encephalitis was found in these flocks with the estimated relative risk being 3.8. Winter housing was not found to be associated with the development of listeric encephalitis. 相似文献

Sarcocystis zoites were found in pepsin digests of 68.8% of 157 pigs from Hissar, Haryana. Sarcocystis-infected meat was fed to 4 young dogs and 2 cats. The dogs shed Sarcocystis sporocysts in their faeces 12 days after eating infected meat whereas cats did not shed sporocysts. 相似文献

During 1998, hydropericardium syndrome was observed among 3-to-6-wk-old broilers in 45 different flocks of Haryana, India, with mortality ranging between 10% and 30%. Fowl adenovirus (FAV) was isolated from one of the affected flocks by chicken embryo liver cell culture. Serum neutralization test and polymerase chain reaction assay coupled with restriction enzyme analysis confirmed that the isolated virus belonged to FAV serotype 4. The disease was reproduced in 28-day-old broilers by subcutaneous and oral inoculation of isolated FAV4 alone. Typical hydropericardium and basophilic intranuclear inclusions in hepatocytes were observed in experimental birds by day 4 postinoculation. 相似文献

Summary An endeavour was made to assess the prevalence of Toxoplasma infection in sheep and goats in Hissar using the indirect haemagglutination
test. The incidence in sheep was 6·6 per cent and in goats 11·5 per cent and was higher in the female than in the male in
both species.
Sumario Se ha intentado evaluar la prevalencia de infecciones a Toxoplasma en ovinos y caprinos en Hissar mediante el uso de la prueba indirecta de hemaglutinacion. La incidencia en ovinos fue de 6.6 por ciento y en caprinos de 11.5 por ciento y era mas alta en las hembras que en los machos en ambas especies.
Résumé Dans une tentative pour établir la prévalence de l'infection à toxoplasmes chez le mouton et la chèvre dans la région de Hissar, on a utilisé l'épreuve d'hémagglutination indirecte. Ovine paratuberculosis is a threat to small animal holders in terms of economic loss such as reduced growth performance and early culling. In order to study the slaughterhouse prevalence of ovine paratuberculosis, the slaughterhouse sheep samples (which are poor in body condition) collected over a period of two and half years from 1,034 suspected male sheep (poor in body condition) and 40 normal sheep (good body condition and subsequently negative by all the diagnostic tests employed) aged between 16 and 18 months were slaughtered at various abattoirs of Tamil Nadu. All the sheep taken in this study were maintained in almost same management conditions. DNA was extracted from 1,034 intestinal tissue and mesenteric lymph node and 121 were positive by IS 900 PCR. One hundred ten and 56 were positive by absorbed ELISA and Ziehl–Neelsen staining, respectively. In histopathology, 28 animals showed gross lesions of paratuberculosis infection (20—multibacillary and 8—paucibacillary forms). Out of 1,034 sheep tissues cultured, 32 showed cultural growth in Middlebrook 7H9 and 26 in Herrold's egg yolk medium. None of the 40 normal sheep were positive by any of the tests employed. In general, the mean body weight of paratuberculosis-affected animal either by any one of the tests employed was less than the non-affected sheep. The approximate economic loss per sheep/farmer/year is around Rs 1,840 (US$ 38.33) in paratuberculosis-affected sheep. 相似文献

We used a combined cross-sectional and longitudinal design to estimate seroprevalence of Brucella antibodies in Awassi sheep and the incidence of abortion due to brucellosis during one lambing season, and to test risk factors. The Brucella organisms isolated from aborted fetuses and vaginal swabs were characterized as Brucella melitensis biotype 3. Seventy Awassi sheep flocks were selected randomly from Northern Jordan. Sixty two of the 70 flocks were used in the cross-sectional study and 8 flocks were monitored for three consecutive months to estimate the incidence of abortion. Questionnaire data and 602 serum samples were collected and analyzed. Thirty five flocks (56%) were brucellosis-seropositive by the Rose Bengal plate-agglutination test (RBT) and 28 (45%) by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). The crude seroprevalence of brucellosis at the individual-animal level was 14.3% by RBT, 7.2% by ELISA and 2.2% using both tests in series. The flock-specific, animal-level abortion risk ranged between 2.5 and 50% (median=22.6%). The flock brucellosis-status was used as the outcome variable in a multivariable logistic regression. Grazing at communal pasture increased odds, but usage of disinfectants, previous vaccination for brucellosis, and tap water were protective. The animal-level incidence of abortion was 20% and the specific incidence risk of abortion due to brucellosis was 13%. 相似文献

The aims of this investigation were to determine the prevalence of ovine herpesvirus type 2 (OvHV-2) (the causative agent of malignant catarrhal fever) infection in cattle, the carrier status of sheep and goats, and to define the pattern of acquisition of OvHV-2 in lambs under natural flock conditions in Kashmir, India. None of the buffy coat samples from 21 lambs contained OvHV-2 DNA sequences up to 28 days after birth, only one lamb had sequences of OvHV-2 DNA as early as 29 days after birth, and they were detected in the other 20 lambs when they were between 43 and 94 days of age. Sequences of OvHV-2 DNA were detected in buffy coat samples from 28 (85 per cent) of 33 adult sheep and in 16 (61 per cent) of 26 samples from adult goats by hemi-nested PCR. Seventeen (31 per cent) of 55 cattle with malignant catarrhal fever-like clinical signs had sequences of OvHV-2 DNA in their blood, and nine of the 17 died, all of them during the months of April to November, between November 2002 and March 2004. No clinical cases of sheep-associated malignant catarrhal fever was recorded during the months of December to March. The overall prevalence of OvHV-2 infection in the cattle in the region was estimated to be less than 1 per cent. 相似文献

Despite the widespread adoption of clean grazing systems in lowland sheep flocks, detailed parasitological investigations had not previously been carried out on such flocks. A trial was therefore conducted on two commercial flocks: a traditional permanent pasture flock (A) and one operating a system of clean grazing (B), and on an East of Scotland College flock (C) which had operated a clean grazing system for eight years. Ewe and lamb worm egg output, pasture larval levels and lamb liveweight gains were monitored and tracer lambs were grazed during July and August on each farm. Under clean grazing conditions on farm C all parasitological parameters were lower than on both commercial farms. However, in the commercial flocks comparable contamination was evident from midsummer onwards and tracer lambs grazed during August on farm B had significantly greater worm burdens than on the other two farms. The differences observed between the flocks were thought to be due to greater residual contamination by overwintered larvae in both commercial flocks while the higher worm burdens in August on farm B probably resulted partly from incomplete control of the periparturient rise in ewe faecal egg output and partly to autoinfection of the lamb crop. It was concluded that farm C grazing was the cleanest. Considerable contamination was present on farm A while farm B occupied an intermediate position which resulted in considerable worm burdens in lambs grazing during the latter part of the season. 相似文献

In India, brucellosis was first recognised in 1942 and is now endemic throughout the country. The disease is reported in cattle, buffalo, sheep, goats, pigs, dogs and humans. B. abortus biotype-1 in cattle and buffaloes and B. melitensis biotype-1 in sheep, goats and man are the predominant infective biotypes. The long-term serological studies have indicated that 5% of cattle and 3% of buffaloes are infected with brucellosis. Economic losses due to brucellosis in livestock are considerable in an agrarian country like India. There is no organised and effective brucellosis control programme in the country. With the indigenous development of serum and milk based ELISA kits, the population survey of the disease has been undertaken on a large scale in several states and plans for the control of the disease through calf-hood vaccination are being worked out. An innovative approach—Bovine Brucellosis Progressive Control Programme (BBPCP) is targeted to overcome the basic problems of ban on cow slaughter, distress sale of animals following the positive serological diagnosis of brucellosis and absence of a disease control strategy. Footrot is a highly contagious and economically important disease of sheep and goats, caused by Dichelobacter nodosus, a slow growing anaerobic Gram-negative rod. The current Australian antigenic classification system, based on variation in the fimbriae, classifies D. nodosus into at least 10 serogroups (A-I and M) and 18 serotypes. This investigation was intended to determine the serological diversity of D. nodosus in this region of Kashmir, India. Exudates of footrot lesions were collected from 24 naturally infected sheep and 42 goats located in the Kashmir valley. Of these 66 samples, 24 yielded evidence of D. nodosus by PCR using 16SrDNA specific primers. Multiplex PCR using serogroup specific primers revealed the presence of serogroup B in all the samples except two, which showed the presence of serogroup E D. nodosus. This study also documents the isolation of D. nodosus and detection of serogroup E for the first time in India. 相似文献

There are severe international trade restrictions on foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) affected areas. Because of endemic nature of FMD, India started FMD control programme (FMD-CP) using mass vaccination in selected states including Haryana (year 2003). Although no significant incidence of the disease was reported after launching FMD-CP in the state but in order to participate in international trade of animal and animal products, veterinary authorities have to prove that there is no FMD virus (FMDV) circulation in the animal population, for which it is necessary to differentiate the FMD infected and vaccinated animals. For this purpose, an in-house indirect ELISA utilizing baculovirus-expressed FMDV non-structural protein (NSP) 3A was used to find evidence for virus circulation (prevalence of anti-NSP 3A-specific antibodies) by examining serum samples that were collected either before start of FMD-CP or after completion of third phase (Pre-4th) of vaccination in Haryana (India). A significant reduction (P < 0.01) in prevalence of anti-NSP 3A-specific antibodies (possibly carriers) was observed 2 years after launching FMD-CP in Haryana. However, in cattle the percentage of animals with anti-NSP 3A-specific antibodies was found to be significantly higher (P < 0.01) than buffalo, both before (P < 0.01) and after (P < 0.01) launching FMD-CP in the state. The findings of this study suggest that use of FMDV vaccine in cattle and buffaloes in endemic areas reduces virus circulation (carriers) in the vaccinated herds and that the current 3ANSP-ELISA can be successfully used to monitor the FMDV circulation in endemic areas. 相似文献

The relationship of 50 Campylobacter strains isolated from aborted ovine foetuses, and the faeces of sheep, cattle and chickens were determined by numerical analysis of electrophoretic (SDS-PAGE) protein profiles. Comparison of protein patterns by numerical methods revealed differences between C. fetus ssp. fetus, C. jejuni, and C. coli strains as well as heterogeneity among isolates from different outbreaks. Isolates from each farm produced a distinct cluster and flocks from different locations were found to be infected with relatively different strains. In most cases, protein patterns of ovine foetal isolates were very similar to those of ovine faecal isolates. Ovine isolates of C. fetus ssp. fetus, C. jejuni and C. coli gave similar protein patterns to the corresponding Campylobacter species isolated from cattle or chicken, on the same farm. Thus, it was concluded that certain protein types of ovine Campylobacter strains were more likely associated with local areas, and Campylobacter strains causing ovine abortions are distributed in the environment more widely than assumed to date. 相似文献
