The influence of the replacement of cereals by sugar beet in the rations was tested with 6 calves supplied with re-entrant duodenal or ruminal cannulae in 4 measuring periods between their 11th and 17th weeks of life. The control ration (A) consisted of 60% mixed feed, 20% hay and 20% wilted silage, the test ration (B) consisted of 30% mixed feed, 33% sugar beet, 20% hay and 17% wilted silage. A contained 15% crude protein, 32% starch and 2% sugar, B in the same sequence 14, 12 and 24% (amounts in % of DM). The following results were achieved: The functional development of the rumen is largely completed three weeks after weaning. There were no qualitative changes between the 11th and 17th weeks of life. The fermentation of organic matter in the rumen (50...52%) and bacterial protein yield (2.4...2.6 g N per 100 g digestible organic matter) corresponded to that of adult ruminants. The partial replacement of cereals by sugar beet resulted in a significant increase of the molar butyric acid quota to 20.8% (B) in comparison to 13% (A) with the same level of total volatile fatty acids in the rumen, the decrease of the quota of acetic acid to 61.4% (B) in contrast to 73.5% (A) and the reduction of the ruminal NH3 concentration after feeding. The feeding of sugar beets had a positive influence on the passage of starch in the duodenum. The DM-degradation of straw in polyamide bags was also positively influenced. 62.6% (A) and 73.9% (B) of the feed N were degraded in the forestomachs. Per kg DM intake 29.8 g (A) and 28.0 g (B) non-ammonia-N (NAN) were detected at the duodenum. 54% (A) and 64% (B) of NAN consisted of bacteria N. In contrast to adult ruminants at nutrition level 1 (maintenance) a considerable net influx of endogenous N into the rumen was to be observed at a crude protein concentration in the feed of 14 to 15% (in the DM) in both groups. Accordingly, the minimum protein content of the ration (in the DM) should be above 15% in the rearing range studied.  相似文献

The effect of incorporation of gentamicin in liposomes on intracellular killing of Staphylococcus aureus was studied in vitro in cultured bovine mammary macrophages, and in experimental bovine mastitis. Liposomes were prepared by reverse-phase evaporation and ranged in size from 0.1 to 1.0 micron in diameter (mean 0.51 micron), with an encapsulation efficiency of gentamicin of 27.4%. Liposomes were taken up by in vitro cultured macrophages but intracellular killing of S. aureus over 12 h was not significantly enhanced when treatment with liposomally-entrapped gentamicin was compared to free gentamicin. Treatment of experimentally-induced S. aureus mastitis in five lactating Holstein cows (20 quarters) failed to show significant differences in bacterial counts when treatment with liposomally-entrapped gentamicin was compared to treatment with free gentamicin or blank liposomes plus free gentamicin. Gentamicin concentrations exceeded the in vitro determined minimum inhibitory concentration for 48 h when quarters were treated with 50 mg gentamicin on two occasions 24 h apart.  相似文献

The energetic utilization of rations with raw and steamed sugar beets, dried sugar beet pulp (16 measured values each), sucrose and apple pectin (8 measured values each) as supplement feed to a basic ration was measured at 4 growing pigs each in the live weight range of between 40 and 130 kg. The utilization of the energy in the rations amounted to 69.1 +/- 5.5, 68.3 +/- 7.1, 60.9 +/- 5.8, 70.5 +/- 4.1 and 69.9 +/- 6.9% (same sequence as above). The utilization values for the supplemented feedstuffs were 69.2 +/- 7.4, 68.0 +/- 10.0, 55.9 +/- 9.7, 72.2 +/- 7.6 and 71.7 +/- 17.3%. The average retention value of the digestible pectin was derived from the test results with dried sugar beet pulp and apple pectin as 5.8 kJ/g. An influence of the ontogenetic development on energy utilization cannot be derived from the comparison of the retention effect of digestible nutrients measured at growing pigs and that derived from adult pigs.  相似文献

An abdominal mass was palpated in a 14-year-old, spayed female cat with unresolving diarrhea and decreased appetite. A stricture of the ascending colon was confirmed radiographically, identified upon laparotomy, and resected. Colonic adenocarcinoma with infiltration into lymphatics was diagnosed histologically. In 23 cats, urinary obstruction of 24 to 48 hours' duration caused marked azotemia, hyperphosphatemia, hyperkalemia, and metabolic acidosis. The metabolic acidosis was a consistent finding and was severe in all cats (venous pH, 7.11 +/- 0.09). Serum sodium and chloride were normal. Glycosuria was found in 17 (74%) of the cats. There was no clear difference in blood pH, serum chemical values, or electrolyte concentrations between cats obstructed 24 hours and those obstructed 48 hours or longer. At a mean of 8.4 hours after relief of obstruction, acid-base status was corrected to normal, using fluid replacement and sodium bicarbonate therapy. Blood urea nitrogen serum creatinine, and serum inorganic phosphorus improved significantly (P less than 0.01) at a mean of 19.5 hours after treatment. Variation in azotemia after fluid replacement suggested variable decreases in glomerular filtration rate after relief of obstruction. Hypokalemia occasionally developed after relief of obstruction during the postobstructive diuresis. It was concluded that fluid and electrolyte therapy must be regulated in response to the postobstructive diuresis, to ensure proper medical management.  相似文献

In humans it has been estimated that for each 2.5 g L–1 decrease in serum albumin, risk of death increases by 24–56%. Clinical impression suggests this may be similar in veterinary patients. Species‐specific albumin (plasma) is often unavailable and concentrated solutions are not. Our experience using 25% human serum albumin (HSA) in critically ill dogs suggests a positive effect (results submitted), however it is expensive. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) may be a more cost effective and readily available alternative. The purpose of this study was to assess the immediate and long‐term safety of an intravenous dose (500 mg kg–1) of bovine albumin administered to healthy dogs. Ten mature dogs (eight males, two females, 28 ± 6 kg) were to receive BSA (250 mg mL–1) twice (BSA1 and BSA2) with 14 days between treatments. Temperature, blood pressure, and pulse and respiration rate were continuously monitored to identify a reaction to BSA. All dogs received BSA1. One dog immediately developed mild urticaria and pruritus, otherwise the infusion was well tolerated. No immediate reaction was noted in the other nine dogs. Two dogs received BSA2. One dog developed a mild immediate reaction similar to that occurring with BSA1, and one dog (the dog immediately reacting to BSA1) developed a severe anaphylactic reaction. Due to these reactions, no other dogs received BSA2. During a two‐week observation of the remaining eight dogs given BSA1, five developed a mild or severe generalized type‐III hypersensitivity reaction. The dog experiencing a mild reaction during BSA2 administration also developed a generalized type‐III hypersensitivity reaction. Delayed reactions occurred 15 ± 2.7 days after BSA exposure. Three dogs did not develop a reaction. All reacting dogs recovered fully. The severity of reactions, and the number of dogs affected, suggests prior (natural) exposure and immunological sensitization to bovine albumin. Bovine serum albumin is not suitable for therapeutic use in dogs.  相似文献

Esophageal obstruction of 1 week's duration in a gelding was diagnosed by contrast radiography and esophagoscopy. A food bolus was found at the junction of the caudal thoracic portion of the esophagus and the cardia. A gastrotomy was performed through a cranial abdominal incision and a phytobezoar was manually broken down and removed. The gelding was started on complete pellet food and water on the fifth day after surgery. The horse remained clinically normal more than 1 year after surgery.  相似文献
