Urban Public Space Design and Human Activities

People are paying more and more attention to the design of urban public space. What kind of public space is needed is an important problem to be probed into. In this paper, the rationality of the design of urban public space is discussed. The demand of human activities to the public space and the design method with considering the human beings, human activities and the public space are emphasized. It is pointed out that the public space will lose its meaning without the activities and spirits of human beings.     

Seasonal Characteristics of Thermal Environment in Urban Public Space of the Urban in Hot-summer and Cold-winter Region

Thermal environment in urban public space is considered as an important factor affecting thermal comfort of human beings. In the whole year, thermal environment in public space of the city in hot-summer and cold-winter zone changes dramatically, which has an effect on human thermal comfort. In this study, three typical public spaces including street, park and square of Changsha were selected for a long-term experiment of thermal environment. Based on the analysis of four significant thermal environment parameters-air temperature, relative humidity, global temperature and wind speed, seasonal characteristics of thermal environment in urban public space were obtained. The results show that the characteristics of urban thermal environment are determined by natural climate, while the physical structure of a city has essential impact on the changes of local outdoor thermal environment. Affected by plants (trees) and water (Xiangjiang river) air temperature of the street along the street is much lower, relative humidity is higher and solar radiation is weaker in most of the year. Compared to the street along the river, air temperature of the square is higher and solar radiation is stronger.     

Ancient Cultural Relics in Cities and Environmental Art Design: Series I of Urban Public Environment Design

Buildings and spatial environment left by history record evolution traces of cities and significant events related to the cities, and as a particular carrier of culture, they are witnesses of city development, and show the later generations memories of the city history. In urban planning, historical images must be respected, the relation between ancient cultural relics and urban planning handled properly, city brand established, and city image improved. The author, on the basis of exploring signifi cance of urban ancient cultural relics, used practical cases to fi gure out approaches of preserving urban ancient cultural relics in urban planning.     

Urban Public Space Development in Harbin Driven by Music Culture Intervention

"Social event driving" has become a way to promote urban development, create urban public spaces and create a city image. As one of the important big cities in northeastern China, Harbin enjoys the reputation of "The Music City", and its public space development is inextricably linked with the driving of music culture. This paper started with the analysis of the correlation between the development of urban public spaces and the development of music culture in Harbin, and studied the influence and driving role of music culture on the construction and development of urban public spaces.     

Making Public Space in High-density Environment: Strategy and Methodology of Landscape Urbanism

High concentration of population and other elements brought by high urbanization has pushed the future construction of urban public spaces to be both compact and ecological. Theory and methodology of landscape urbanism provides a new perspective for the construction of public spaces in high-density urban environment. Based on the concept and basic standpoints of landscape urbanism, this paper elaborated its potential value in spatial connection, functional integration and vitality promotion, and also analyzed practical strategies of landscape urbanism from three perspectives of structure, fold and stage by combining with typical cases, so as to provide references for designing urban public spaces in high-density environment.     

Analysis of Essence of Urban Public Space from Viewpoint of Energy Aggregation

This paper aims at analysis on essence of urban public space from viewpoint of energy aggregation and puts forward the conception of potential energy field through the study on universal significance of energy exchange, reflection of important characteristics of energy exchange in urban public space form, static state and development about typical urban pubic space-street and square. Corresponding methods of urban design and conception of planning under the contemporary era are studied.     

Typology-based Vitality Promotion of Urban Waterfront Public Space in the Three Gorges Reservoir

Revitalization of waterfront-a precious resource of city has gradually become popular worldwide. Cities around the Three Gorges Reservoir grow and proper for the Yangtze River,thus waterfront in these cities has been long ignored or faced with constructive destruction with the city development. This paper divided urban waterfront public spaces around the Three Gorges into 3 kinds of spaces,namely point,line and surface,from the perspective of typology,and put forward strategies such as functional renovation,and improvement of spatial scale from the perspectives of land use and traffic,to enhance the vitality of waterfront public space.     

Analysis on the Design of Space Environment in College Dormitory

With the comi more and more expande ng d. of information age and the development of high education, the colleges in China are Through the survey of some new-built university dormitories in the area of Beijing and Tianjin,some reasons of the bad living environment in usage of these dormitories have been found. Furthermore,the design of space using at present is studied and the reasonable space scale of the dormitories in whole and part is suggested, aiming at offering the direction for the construction of dormitories in the future.     

Ecological Planning and Design of Urban Green Space System of Sanya City

The construction of International Tourism Island has accelerated the development of Sanya City. The population aggregation and the external extension of urban area have brought a lot of negative effects, such as discontinuities of green space matrix, dysfunction of green wedge permeation, deficiency of eco-corridor, structural imbalance of green space system and so on. The overall layout of Green space system known as One Belt Three Bays, One Core Six Towns, Two Axes Three Wedges, Two Net Synchronous-construction strengthens the eco-connection among different groups and green space in central area of the city, and realizes the collaborative construction of both resource corridor and landscape corridor. The eco-layout of green core, green corridor and green patch helps keep the integrity of large vegetation patches, enhances the eco-connection of different types of green space and improves finger-shaped network of urban green space. The most efficient way to promote the circulation of urban ecosystem and the positive development of Sanya City is to plan multilevel and three-dimensional eco-space structure and maximize ecological benefits of green space system.     

Environmental Design of Urban Outdoor Public Spaces Based on Children's Activities

This paper analyzed current situation of domestic and foreign children's outdoor spaces, and the relationship between urban public spaces and children's behaviors, summarized design principles and techniques to improve use efficiency of urban outdoor public spaces and facilities, create public spaces capable of meeting psychological behavior needs of children.     

Ideal Space and Evolution of Urban Morphology

Urban planning has always pursued ideal space. Building an exercisable concept is an option for current urban planning. An ideal space has two accessible approaches: an ideal spatial mode applicable to the whole human society, and another mode focusing on the ideal spatial mode which relies on a particular region. “Regional ideal space” can be defined as an imaginary spatial mode recognized by clusters of people during a certain period. With its substantive characteristics of dynamism, diversification and over planning, ideal space is a directional impetus to promote urban evolution. Based on our research, we find that the ideal space mode of the city of Wuhan, P. R. China, has evolved from sandbank to park to unitary city. It is very important to study an ideal space of a city from the perspective of historical evolution of urban form. Studies of this type can promote the evolution of urban form, guide city change, and help people seek the ultimate goal of urban planning, both theoretically and practically.     

Design Elements of Urban Children' s Recreational Landscape Space Based on Genius Loci

Urban children's recreational landscape space is an organic component of urban children's recreational space,genius loci is both a result and a motive in its design.This paper interpreted the connotations of genius loci of urban children's recreational space,the correlation between both,and design elements of urban children's recreational landscape space,in order to provide theoretical support for the design of urban children's recreational landscape space.     

Landscape Components of the Golf Course and Their Application in Urban Green Space Landscape Design

This paper analyzed the landscape components of the golf course from the perspectives of the functionality, beauty and ecology of the golf course, compared the differences between the golf course landscape and the urban garden space landscape in terms of functional requirements, artistic requirements, components, and plant landscaping, and discussed the application of landscape components of the golf course in the of the urban green space landscape design.     

Urban Design Based on Protection of Historic Space of Cultural Heritage:A Case Study of Urban Design of Dongguan District in Xi'an

Located in the east of Xi'an, Dongguan District is the area to the east of the Ming City wall.There is a great deal of precious architectural heritages in the area, including shrines such as the Wangji Temple, the Baxian Temple, the Catholic Church and the Laomu Temple, as well as protected dwellings such as the Xingqing Palace, the royal palace of the flouring period of the Tang Dynasty, and the Courtyard of Family Xi, etc.. Currently, securing Dongguan District protection and development has confronted with severe challenges. Based on the in-depth investigation of the status quo and objective analysis of pros and cons, this paper gives a clear definition for Dongguan District protection and development, and profoundly analyses courtyards, streets, landscape environment and human environment of the Dongguan District, so as to formulate protective methods as well as measures and explore development approaches.     

Social and Psychological Benefit of Urban Green Space

Recent rapid urbanization has broad impact on the contemporary urban environment. Preserving the natural environment has become the central issues in the world. The main concern of this paper is to address the importance of social function of green space. Some results of a survey conducted among visitors of urban parks in Mianyang city in Sichuan Province are presented and discussed. The results confirm that open space experiences have a positives influence on psychological and mental health. Urban green space verifies beliefs about stress-reduction benefits and mental health, and advances social intercommunication. Finally, the monetary evaluation methods of urban green space, such as contingent valuation method, hedonic pricing method, travel cost method, are discussed.     

基于“点”、“线”体系的城市公共开放空间景观设计研究

景观的发展正在经历一场平民化和大众化的历程,现代景观应平等地呈现给所有的市民。景观场所的本质是人们的生活区域,应符合生态要求、公众休闲的基本需求和一定的文化需求。其实践表现为景观设计,其契机主要是为市民创造公共的开放空间。本文从景观的概念、大众化发展入手,选取点状空间和绿道线性空间构成体系的角度,来探讨城市公共开放空间的景观设计,对创建更具大众化和符合生态的城市景观设计具有一定的借鉴意义。
