1. The inclusion of 25 g hydrolysed feather meal (HFM) in each kilogram of diet (floor experiment) and 60 g/kg (cage experiment) did not depress performance.

2. Chemical tests indicated 72.5% of the total lysine in HFM was available.

3. Total lysine concentration of 11.3 g/kg diet maximised performance during the period 0 to 34 d.

4. Reduction in dietary methionine content during the period 0 to 34 d from 4.2 g/kg to 3.2 g/kg did not depress performance on diets containing 60 g HFM/kg.

5. The results indicate that at least 57% by weight of the total sulphur amino acid requirement of broilers can be provided by cystine.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were conducted to determine the influence of dietary protein and amino acids on urinary excretion of amino acids and nitrogen in colostomised turkey hens.

2. Normal and colostomised turkeys 8 weeks of age were fed on control and high protein diets. Body weight gains of both types of birds were similar. Diet did not affect the amino acids in the urine significantly, but urinary nitrogen was higher with the high protein diet.

3. Normal and colostomised turkeys 10 weeks of age were fed a diet with either supplemental DL‐methionine or L‐lysine hydrochloride (each 20 g/kg diet). DL‐methionine depressed gain and resulted in considerable excretion of methionine in urine. Lysine had little effect on weight gain or urinary lysine.  相似文献

1. The sulphur amino acid requirements of White Leghorn‐type laying hens were determined in two 52‐week experiments using diets based on maize and soyabean meal providing from 5.0 to 6.5 g sulphur amino acids/kg, 12.35 MJ ME/kg and 8.6 to 8.8 g lysine/kg. There were six replicates of 15 individually‐caged hens each per treatment.

2. A requirement of approximately 775 to 800 mg sulphur amino acids /hen d, of which about 390 to 440 mg was methionine, was found for a maximum of 80 to 83 eggs/100 hen d. There were indications that the requirement for maximum egg production was less than that for maximum efficiency of food utilisation.

3. Diets containing 138 g protein/kg supplemented with methionine and lysine supported production and food utilisation as effectively as a diet containing 167 g protein/kg.  相似文献

1. White Leghorn pullets which had been used for an assay of tryptophan requirement between 32 and 40 weeks of age were used for similar determinations between 63 and 73 and, after a moult, from 97 to 106 weeks of age.

2. A tryptophan‐limiting protein mixture was used and by dilution seven dietary protein contents were produced, supplying from 0.84 to 1–92 g tryptophan/kg diet. The diet of lowest protein content was also sup‐lemented with free tryptophan. These diets were fed in experiments using 24 groups of 72 pullets at 63 to 73 weeks and 45 groups of 21 hens at 97 to 106 weeks.

3. The relationship between egg output and tryptophan intake was the same in moulted hens as in young pullets, but pullets of 63 to 73 weeks of age yielded a different response curve; more tryptophan being needed for a given egg output.

4. It is concluded that tryptophan required, per day, does not decrease during the first laying year, despite a decrease in rate of egg output.  相似文献

1. Three sequential experiments, each lasting 8 weeks, were carried out on 576 singly‐caged light hybrids.

2. In experiment 1 egg production was 84% using a conventional control diet, 61% with a basal low‐protein diet, and 79% with the basal diet supplemented with 10 essential amino acids + L‐glutamic acid (GA).

3. In experiment 2 supplementation with lysine and methionine (L + M) alone increased egg production significantly from 54 to 72%, compared with 83% with the conventional diet.

4. In experiment 3 egg production was 55% with the basal diet, 71% with the basal diet + L + M, 75% with a diet containing 141 g protein/kg + L + M, and 73% with the conventional diet.

5. In all three experiments supplementation with GA alone either gave no significant response or a depression in production.

6. Daily intakes of 1.24 g nitrogen as non‐essential amino acids and 13 to 14 g total crude protein per bird resulted in good egg production. Supplementation of the basal diet with L + M resulted in a daily intake of 413 mg methionine/bird day which was considered adequate, and a daily intake of 710 mg lysine which was considered slightly inadequate.  相似文献

1. The response of layers to adding diammonium citrate (DAC), sodium sulphate or methionine to a basal diet containing 136–3 g protein/kg was determined.

2. Supplementing the diet with DAC equivalent to 25 g protein/kg did not improve egg production, the efficiency of food utilisation, egg weight, nitrogen retention or the apparent absorption of lysine and methionine; increases in food intake and in the concentration of methionine in the serum and liver were observed.

3. Adding sodium sulphate, alone or with DAC, did not affect the variables noted above.

4. Supplementation of the basal diet with methionine increased egg production, egg weight, food intake and the concentrations of lysine in the serum and liver.

5. It is concluded that the supplemental NPN was used only in serum protein synthesis.  相似文献

1. Growth, food intake, and food preference were measured in two experimental lines (White Rocks and White Leghorns) of chickens fed diets varying in content of lysine, methionine, or tryptophan. Diet A was balanced in all amino acids, while the remaining 6 diets were moderately ( ~ 30%) or slightly ( ~ 15%) deficient in either lysine, methionine, or tryptophan relative to NRC recommendations for broiler diets.

2. Body weight and food utilisation efficiency of White Leghorns at 10 d of age were not affected by diet, whereas the lower concentrations of lysine and methionine depressed these traits in White Rocks.

3. Tryptophan deficiency reduced food intake of White Leghorns, but not White Rocks.

4. With choice feeding of balanced and deficient diets from day 10 to 16, preferences between the diets were minimal for White Leghorns, whereas for White Rocks there was an almost immediate preference for the balanced diet, followed by lack of preference or preference for the deficient diet.

5. Apparently for some genetic stocks there is rapid adjustment to deficiencies in these amino acids with overconsumption, followed by compensation for preference of the balanced diet. The response, however, will vary depending on the deficient amino acid.  相似文献

1. Individually‐caged laying hens were fed on maize‐soya bean meal diets containing 11.50 or 12.35 MJ ME/kg with sulphur amino acid (SAA) contents varying from 5.0 to 7.0 g/kg in period 1 (0 to 20 weeks); from 5.0 to 8.0 g/kg in period 2 (21 to 36 weeks) and from 5.0 to 10.0 g/kg in period 3 (37 to 52 weeks).

2. A SAA requirement of about 750 mg/hen d, of which about 425 mg was methionine, was found to be adequate for birds producing on average 51 g egg mass per hen d over 52 weeks. The SAA requirement was found to be higher for maximum efficiency of food utilisation than for maximum egg yield.

3. A diet containing 140 g protein/kg adequately supplemented with methionine and lysine, could sustain laying performance almost identical to that achieved on a diet containing 167 g protein/kg.

4. In diets with 140 g protein/kg the addition of 0.5 to 3.5 g dl‐methionine/kg diet in excess of the requirement did not affect egg production adversely, but food conversion efficiency was decreased.  相似文献

1. The classical ME value of triticale varied from 12.305 to 13.778 kJ/g or 11.819 to 13.016 kJ/g corrected for N‐retention depending upon method of calculation.

2. Substituting triticale for maize, weight for weight, but not on a iso‐nitrogenous basis, in a groundnut oil cake (GNC) starter diet improved weight gain (P < 0.05) when the substitution exceeded 75% without affecting the protein efficiency ratio (PER).

3. A similar substitution in a soybean oil meal diet, improved weight gain (P < 0.05) at 50% or more but PER declined (P < 0.05).

4. The net protein utilisation and protein retention efficiency values of the diets in which maize protein was replaced by triticale protein were significantly reduced.

5. The maize‐GNC diet was equally limiting in methionine and lysine while the triticale‐GNC diet was not.

6. The growth and food efficiency obtained with a triticale‐GNC diet was higher (P < 0.01) than with the maize‐GNC diet but not with a maize‐GNC supplemented with fish meal and methionine.

7. It is concluded that triticale could quantitatively substitute maize in the starter diets.  相似文献

Selected literature relating to the amino acid supplementation of layers’ diets is reviewed and the results of two experiments are presented.

In the first experiment a basal soyabean meal diet (14.3 per cent crude protein) was supplemented with L‐lysine and DL‐methionine, singly and together. Supplementation of the basal soyabean diet with the amino acids caused no significant effects on egg production, mean and total egg weight or food conversion efficiency. None of the soyabean diets proved as satisfactory for egg production or food conversion efficiency as a fish meal control diet (16.9 per cent crude protein).

In the second experiment the effect of adding 0.1 per cent each of L‐lysine and DL‐methionine or 0.2 per cent each of l‐lysine and DL‐methionine to a low fish meal diet (2.5 per cent fish meal) was examined. The addition of 0.2 per cent of each amino acid caused an increase in egg production.

Mean egg weight was improved by the addition of amino acids at both levels although this effect was not statistically significant. Comparison of the low fish meal diets with a fishmeal control diet (10 per cent fishmeal) showed that at the 0.2 per cent addition of amino acids, egg production, total egg weight and food conversion efficiency were better than on the 10 per cent fish meal control diet.

Two breeds, light and medium hybrids were used in both experiments.

The results are discussed with reference to their practical significance.  相似文献

1. Experiments were conducted with laying hens to determine the effects of supplementing 0, 1.0, 2.0 and 3.0 or 4.0 g trp/kg diet to a maize and soyabean meal‐based laying ration (basal tryptophan = 1.66 g/kg) on tissue lipid concentrations.

2. Plasma cholesterol, triglycerides and nonesterified fatty acids were increased by supplementing the diet with 1.0 g trp/kg diet and decreased with 3.0 or 4.0 g trp/kg diet. A significant quadratic effect of supplemental tryptophan was observed on plasma lipids in most cases. The observed effects diminished with time. No consistent changes were observed in plasma glucose concentrations.

3. Total liver lipids were reduced by supplemental tryptophan at all concentrations.  相似文献

1. Excreta from laying hens, collected at daily or weekly intervals, was dried in a commercial oil‐fired drier. Samples were analysed at monthly intervals over an 18‐month period.

2. Leaving the excreta for 1 week resulted in a decrease in nitrogen content from 59.5 g/kg to 54.1 g/kg (P< 0.05) and in the moisture content from 108.5 g/kg to 83.3 g/kg (P<0.05).

3. The mean values of available methionine, tryptophan and leucine were little affected by storage and were 0.340, 0.555 and 1.041 g/16 g N, respectively.

4. Salmonellae were not detected in any sample, coliform bacteria were detected in nine (26%) and anaerobic spore formers in 26 samples (76%).  相似文献

1. An experiment was designed to test if the lysine requirement, expressed as g lysine/kg CP, was the same for several protein sources.

2. Groundnut meal, groundnut meal adjusted with indispensable amino acids or sesame meal supplied the dietary CP at 180 g/kg diet. Increments of lysine (1.5 g/kg diet) were added to each of these diets.

3. The gain, food intake and food efficiency responses of broiler chicks were analysed using a quadratic equation and a two‐slope method. An estimate of lysine requirements was also obtained from a survey of college students.

4. The different methods produced widely different estimates of lysine requirement.

5. The average lysine requirement was estimated at 50.1 g lysine/kg CP for groundnut meal, 61.7 for adjusted groundnut meal and 54.9 for sesame meal.

6. Reasons for the effect of statistical analysis and protein source on lysine requirement are discussed.  相似文献

1. The performance of six commercial stocks of laying hens fed on a diet composed of home‐produced foodstuffs, not usually used for human consumption, was compared with that of birds fed on a conventional diet.

2. The experimental diet was calculated to be low in energy and methionine and high in fibre by conventional standards. Birds ate up to 12% more of this diet, but the calculated intakes of energy and methionine were less than those of the corresponding controls.

3. White stocks fed on the experimental diet produced seven eggs less per bird than controls while the production of brown stocks was essentially unaffected.

4. The gross efficiency of energy utilisation for egg production was better with the experimental diet.  相似文献

1. Two laying diets, control (A) and a low‐energy (B) diet diluted by adding 450 g/kg wheat bran, were fed to semi‐heavy hens in three different forms: mash, small pellets and large pellets. The behavioural adaptations and the production characteristics for these six regimens were studied on 72 individually caged hens, between 19 and 29 weeks of age, subjected to a lighting pattern of 14 h light/24 h.

2. Diet B, as mash, showed a lower apparent physical density than the others. The hardness and durability of the pelleted diets were similar.

3. Hens fed the mash diet B could not completely adjust their food intake to compensate for the dilution and showed reduced egg output and body weight gain compared to the other groups.

4. Video observation of each hen for 14 consecutive hours showed that mash‐fed hens ate for longer periods than pellet‐fed hens during the first 11 h (proportion of time spent eating: 41.3% mash B, 32.5% mash A and 20% to 25% for all the pelleted diets). These differences were less pronounced during the last 3 h of the photoperiod.

5. Trough‐oriented stereotypies were noted in 14 out of 22 mash‐fed hens and in 12 out of 47 pellet‐fed hens. Dilution of the diet did not appear to exacerbate stereotyped behaviours under the conditions of the study.

6. This experiment demonstrates that the feeding behaviour of laying hens is affected by the physical characteristics of the diet and that this may lower their productivity.

7. Low‐energy pelleted diets might be used to feed hens efficiently in tropical countries where cereal by‐products are abundant.  相似文献

1. The nutritional value of a sample of algae meal, mainly Chlorella, was assessed in an experiment with laying hens. The algae meal was that described by Lipstein and Hurwitz (1980).

2. Diets formulated by linear programming contained up to 120 g algae meal/kg with supplementary DL‐methionine.

3. There were no significant effects of dietary algae meal on egg output, food conversion or egg‐shell quality. Thus algae meal at the concentrations tested can be a useful substitute for soyabean meal in diets for laying hens.

4. High concentrations of dietary algae meal caused a deep yellow yolk colour of acceptable appearance.  相似文献

1. Two hundred and sixty four dwarf broiler breeder hens were subjected to ad libitum or restricted feeding and to four lighting patterns: 15L (bright light):9D (dark), 15L:9d (dim light), 2L:10d: 1L:11d, (0.5L:3.5d) × 6.

2. Breeder hens fed ad libitum and subjected to either conventional or intermittent lighting ingested respectively, 25 g and 14 to 17 g more than hens restricted to 115 g/d.

3. Body weight was greater in hens fed ad libitum irrespective of the lighting pattern and of the amount of food intake.

4. Persistency of egg production was impaired by intermittent lighting.

5. Ad libitum feeding reduced egg fertility. The decrease was larger in breeder hens on intermittent lighting.

6. Hatchability was increased in hens submitted to the symmetrical lighting pattern (0.5L:3.5d).

7. Egg and chick weights were higher in hens fed ad libitum.

8. Shell index and shell breaking strength increased in restricted hens on the intermittent lighting pattern (0.5L:3.5d) × 6.

9. The best performance was obtained in restricted hens on the conventional lighting pattern.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were conducted to compare food intake responses of broiler chicks fed diets varying in lysine, methionine, and tryptophan. Diet D was formulated to create simultaneous deficiencies of lysine, methionine, and tryptophan. Diet A matched National Research Council (1984) recommendations for broilers, and diets B and C were, respectively, 2:1 and 1:2 mixes of diets A and D.

2. Short‐term food intake can provide information on the sequences of adaptation of chicks to a diet deficient in essential amino acids.

3. Chicks consumed 26% less of diet D than A during the first 24 h posthatch. When chicks fed diet A or D to 7 d of age were then fed one of 4 diets singly, within 24 h intake was lowest for chicks fed diet D. Within 48 h, food intake of diet C was more than that of diet D and less than that of diet A, while for diet B intake was more than of diet D but not different from diet A.

4. In the second experiment, chicks were fed diet A to 8 d and then diets A or D alone or given a choice of diets A and D from 8 to 20 d of age. Within 4 to 8 h, food intake of chicks fed diet D alone decreased markedly followed by partial recovery within 24 h. In a choice setting, consistent preference of Diet A over Diet D was observed within 7 h followed by stabilisation at about 65% diet A to 35% diet D.

5. Chicks fed diet D alone from 8 to 20 d of age, then placed in the same choice situation preferred diet A to D with a delay of less than one h and stabilisation at about 85%. Chicks provided a choice of diets A and D from 8 to 20 d, and then diet D alone reduced their food intake more quickly than those not given a choice initially.

6. Broiler chicks appear to react to amino acid deficiencies within a short period (hours) by adjusting their feed intake and/or selection. The response is influenced by age and prior experience.  相似文献

1. Two experiments were carried out to examine the possibility of replacing a part of the methionine content with choline in a layers’ diet.

2. In the first a low methionine diet with 2.6 g methionine/kg was supplemented with 0.3, 0.6, 0.9 and 1.2 g DL‐methionine/kg. Choline at 1.12 g/kg was added to the diets, which contained 5.4, 6.0 and 6.6 g TSAA.

3. In the second diets with 3.02, 3.80, 4.53, 5.30, 6.04 and 6.51 g TSAA/kg were used and 0.94 g choline/kg was added to these diets.

4. Supplemental methionine increased egg production but not egg weight in the first experiment. When the low TSAA diet was supplemented with choline, egg output increased slightly but not significantly.

5. When supplemental methionine was added to the low protein and TSAA diets in experiment 2 it increased egg production and egg weight. Added choline did not increase egg production or egg weight, even with the diet very low in protein and TSAA. Body weight gain, food intake and feed conversion efficiency of food utilisation were improved by supplemental methionine but not choline.  相似文献

1. A low‐calcium diet (0.5 g calcium/kg) was used to prevent the onset of laying in young pullets.

2. It was fed at 16 weeks of age to five separate groups (groups 2 to 6) each of 50 to 60 birds.

3. Group 2 was fed on a normal layers’ diet at 23 weeks of age, group 3 at 27 weeks, group 4 at 31 weeks, group 5 at 35 weeks and group 6 at 55 weeks while the control group (group 1) of similar size to groups 2 to 6 was subjected to a normal commercial treatment for laying stock.

4. In all the experimental groups the onset of sexual maturity occurred normally, but only one or two eggs were laid before laying ceased under the influence of the treatment.

5. Laying re‐started when the hens were fed on a normal diet and production rapidly rose to a high level.

6. Groups 1, 2 and 3 differed little in the total number of eggs produced up to 72 weeks of age.

7. In all experimental groups there were fewer very small, small and medium eggs than in the control group.

8. It is suggested that the use of a low‐calcium diet before the onset of lay may have advantages which could be exploited on a commercial scale.  相似文献
