The aim of this investigation was to develop models that would make it possible to correct exocrine pancreatic secretion data for the effect of BW and feed intake in growing pigs. In addition, the significance of exocrine pancreatic secretion for daily weight gain (DWG) was studied. Data were used from 10 pigs (16 to 32 kg BW) surgically fitted with chronic pancreatic catheters. The samples were collected under controlled conditions for two to five experimental days per animal (a total of 39 observations), during 2 h preprandially and during 2 h when feeding (postprandially). The exocrine pancreatic secretion traits included the hourly output of volume, the amount of protein, and trypsin and amylase activities. Multiple linear regressions were used to develop models to describe exocrine pancreatic secretion. The individual pig was the most important source of variation in the model. With increasing BW, 7 out of 10 pigs showed an increase in exocrine pancreatic secretion. However, the slopes of the regression lines differed between animals, which made it impossible to develop general models for the correction of secretion data for the effect of BW. Postprandial exocrine pancreatic secretion was always higher than preprandial secretion, but the amount of feed intake per se did not seem to affect secretion. Exocrine pancreatic secretion and DWG were positively correlated. We concluded that, under the present circumstances, expressing secretion per kilogram BW or kilogram feed intake was not feasible. Expressing secretion per hour was the best way to present the data.  相似文献

Background: Feeding behavior study is important for animal husbandry and production. However, few studies were conducted on the feeding behavior and their relationship with feeding efficiency in Pekin ducks. In order to investigate the feeding behavior and their relationship with feed efficiency and other economic traits in Pekin ducks, we selected 358 male Pekin ducks and recorded feeding information between 3 to 6 wk of age using automatic electronic feeders, and compared the feeding behavior under different residual feed intake(RFI) levels. Results: We observed that total feed time, daily feed intake and feed intake per meal had strong positive correlations with feed efficiency traits; moreover, strong correlation between feed intake per meal and body weight was found(R=0.32, 0.36). Daily feeding rate meal and meal duration had weak correlations with feed efficiency(R=0.14~0.15). The phenotypic correlation of between-meal pauses, with feed efficiency was not observed. When daily changes were analyzed, high RFI ducks had the highest feed consumption over all times, and obvious differences in daily visits were found among different RFI level animals during the middle period; these differences were magnified with age, but there was no difference in daily meal number. Moreover, our data indicate that high RFI birds mainly take their meals at the edge of the population enclosure, where they are more susceptible to environmental interference. Conclusions: Overal, this study suggests that the general feeding behaviors can be accurately measured using automatic electronic feeders and certain feeding behaviors in Pekin ducks are associated with improved feed efficiency.  相似文献

The objectives of the present study were to estimate genetic parameters for several feeding behavior traits in growing cattle, as well as the genetic associations among and between feeding behavior and both performance and feed efficiency traits. An additional objective was to investigate the use of feeding behavior traits as predictors of genetic merit for feed intake. Feed intake and live-weight data on 6,088 growing cattle were used of which 4,672 had ultrasound data and 1,548 had feeding behavior data. Feeding behavior traits were defined based on individual feed events or meal events (where individual feed events were grouped into meals). Univariate and bivariate animal linear mixed models were used to estimate (co)variance components. Heritability estimates (± SE) for the feeding behavior traits ranged from 0.19 ± 0.08 for meals per day to 0.61 ± 0.10 for feeding time per day. The coefficient of genetic variation per trait varied from 5% for meals per day to 22% for the duration of each feed event. Genetically heavier cattle, those with a higher daily energy intake (MEI), or those that grew faster had a faster feeding rate, as well as a greater energy intake per feed event and per meal. Better daily feed efficiency (i.e., lower residual energy intake) was genetically associated with both a shorter feeding time per day and shorter meal time per day. In a validation population of 321 steers and heifers, the ability of estimated breeding values (EBV) for MEI to predict (adjusted) phenotypic MEI was demonstrated; EBVs for MEI were estimated using multi-trait models with different sets of predictor traits such as liveweight and/or feeding behaviors. The correlation (± SE) between phenotypic MEI and EBV for MEI marginally improved (P < 0.001) from 0.64 ± 0.03 to 0.68 ± 0.03 when feeding behavior phenotypes from the validation population were included in a genetic evaluation that already included phenotypic mid-test metabolic live-weight from the validation population. This is one of the largest studies demonstrating that significant exploitable genetic variation exists in the feeding behavior of young crossbred growing cattle; such feeding behavior traits are also genetically correlated with several performance and feed efficiency metrics. Nonetheless, there was only a marginal benefit to the inclusion of time-related feeding behavior phenotypes in a genetic evaluation for MEI to improve the precision of the EBVs for this trait.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine the influence of the level of feed intake and a 2-d feed restriction period on the postweaning adaptation of pancreatic exocrine secretions. At 33 d of age, 18 piglets fitted with 2 permanent catheters (for pancreatic juice collection and reintroduction) were weaned and allocated to 1 of the following 2 dietary treatments for 5 d: restricted feed allocation (restricted) or gradually increasing feed allocation (control). Pancreatic juice was collected daily during both basal and prandial periods. The basal period was defined as the period from 1400 to 1700 h (i.e., 5 to 8 h after the morning meal), whereas the prandial period was defined as the period from 30 min before to 60 min after the morning meal (given at 0900). Digestive enzyme activities and antibacterial activity were determined. Pancreatic protein secretion was 44% less (P < 0.05) in restricted piglets than in control piglets during the basal period. Trypsin secretion was affected by feed-restriction of piglets. The meal did not affect protein and trypsin secretions in restricted piglets, whereas at d 3 postweaning, protein and trypsin secretions and trypsin specific activity in control piglets were 9-, 105-, and 25-fold greater (P < 0.001) during the first 30 min after the meal than before the meal. Lipase and amylase secretions were not affected by variations in feed intake. The secretion of antibacterial activity in restricted piglets was greater (P < 0.05) than that of control piglets only at d 5. The extended feed restriction period increased the basal secretion of antibacterial activity (P = 0.09) and postprandial secretion of amylase (P = 0.05). In conclusion, a low level of feed intake during the early postweaning period decreased pancreatic protein and trypsin secretions, whereas a 2-d feed restriction period enhanced secretions of amylase and antibacterial activity. In addition, our results indicate that during periods of dietary adaptation, such as at weaning, measurements of enzyme activities in the tissue do not accurately reflect the enzyme secretion.  相似文献

Four ruminally fistulated Holstein heifers (BW = 385 +/- 6.2 kg) were used in a 4 x 4 Latin square experiment to determine the effect of feeding frequency on intake, water consumption, ruminal fermentation, and feeding and animal behavior. The treatments consisted of different feeding frequencies: a) once daily (T1); b) twice daily (T2); c) 3 times daily (T3); and d) 4 times daily (T4). Heifers were offered ad libitum access to concentrate and barley straw. Feeding frequency did not affect DMI (P >0.10), but water consumption tended to increase linearly as feeding frequency increased (P = 0.08). Average ruminal pH was not affected (P >0.10) by feeding frequency, but at 12 h after feeding ruminal pH was greater for T2 than for the other treatments. Total VFA concentration and VFA proportions were not affected (P >0.10) by feeding frequency, except valerate proportion, which increased linearly (P = 0.05) as feeding frequency increased. The concentration of ammonia-N was affected (P <0.05) cubically as feeding frequency increased (greatest for T3 = 9.3 mg of N/100 mL; lowest for T2 = 7.2 mg of N/100 mL). Feeding frequency had no effect on daily percentages of behavioral activities (P >0.05), except for observational behavior, for which there was a linear decrease as feeding frequency increased (P = 0.02). Heifers spent the same time on chewing activities, independent of feeding frequency. However, meal criteria tended to be affected (P = 0.07) by feeding frequency, with T2 (39.4 min) showing the longest intermeal interval. Total daily meal time, meal frequency, and meal size were not affected by feeding frequency (P >0.10), whereas meal length and eating rate showed cubic tendencies (P = 0.10 and P = 0.06, respectively) as feeding frequency increased. These results suggest that in the present experimental conditions, with heifers fed high-concentrate diets and with noncompetitive feeding, a smaller range of ruminal pH values was observed when feed was offered twice daily. Although heifers spent the same time on chewing activities, more stable ruminal conditions were probably achieved by feeding twice daily due to the rumination pattern, which was more constant during daytime in T2 than in T1. Moreover, when daytime and nighttime ruminating activity were analyzed separately, this activity was different in T1 (17.3 vs. 30.8%, respectively; P <0.05) but not in T2 (21.5 vs. 28.0%, respectively; P >0.05).  相似文献

1. This study is the first to quantitatively compare the structure of feeding behaviour of broilers, ducks and turkeys as recorded by electronic feeders. It tests the hypothesis that this structure is so similar that the same models would be suitable to group the feeding behaviour of these species into meals. 2. Visits to electronic feeders were recorded from 3470 broilers, 3314 turkeys and 480 ducks. The frequency distributions of the length of short intervals between visits to feeders varied between species as a result of differences in the number of visits within a feeding bout, the frequency of re-visits to the same feeder and probably in the likelihood of birds drinking within meals. 3. The lengths of longer day-time intervals between visits to feeders were all log-normally distributed. Disaggregation of these intervals by feeding strategy (meal frequency) showed that the probability of birds starting to feed increased with time since feeding last in all species, which is consistent with the satiety concept. 4. Two methods, one based on fitting a truncated log-normal, function, the other on observed changes in the probability of birds starting to feed with time since last feeding, gave very similar meal criteria estimates. These ranged from 1050 to 1200 s in broilers, 1650 to 1725 s in ducks and 1250 to 1320 s in turkeys. 5. There were large between-species differences in the average number of daily meals, intake per meal, and feeding rate. Despite this variation, the overall structure of feeding behaviour of broilers, ducks and turkeys was so similar that the same models were suitable for application in all three species. This would allow for standardised analyses of feeding behaviour of different avian species kept in different husbandry systems.  相似文献

At weaning, low feed intake level is a major factor responsible for gut disorders. However, less is known on adaptation of the antibacterial activity of pancreatic juice in response to variations in feed intake level. Moreover bovine colostrum has been demonstrated to decrease coliform counts in duodenal digesta and to improve health status of weaned piglets. Aims of the present study were to evaluate effects of feed intake level and of a bovine colostrum-supplemented diet on the pancreatic secretion of antibacterial activity in piglets at weaning. At 33 days of age, twenty-eight piglets fitted with two permanent catheters (for pancreatic juice collection and reintroduction) were weaned and allocated to one of the following three dietary treatments for 5 days: low feed allocation with a starter diet (L), gradually increased feed allocation with a starter diet (Ctrl), or gradually increased feed allocation with a starter diet supplemented with bovine colostrum (Col). In Ctrl piglets, the post-weaning secretion of antibacterial activity did not significantly differed from pre-weaning values. The pancreatic secretion of antibacterial activity in L piglets was higher than that in Ctrl piglets at day 5 (+ 300%; P < 0.05). Moreover in Col piglets the secretion of the antibacterial activity tended to increase by 55% (P = 0.08) compared to Ctrl piglets. Variations in the pancreatic secretion of antibacterial activity could constitute an adaptive phenomenon to maintain bacterial homeostasis in the upper small intestine during the early post-weaning period.  相似文献

The objective of the experiment was to evaluate the effect of rumen escape starch (RES), accomplished by altering dietary starch concentrations on pancreatic exocrine secretion of goats. Four goats (36.8 ± 3.2 kg) with common bile duct re‐entrant and duodenal catheters were used in a 4 × 4 Latin square. Goats were fed diets containing 20%, 30%, 40% and 50% starch. Periods consisted of 10 day adaptation followed by 3 day of sample collection. Juice was collected in 1‐h fractions continuously for 72 h. Total juice secreted was recorded, and 3% sub samples were retained to form a composite sample. The remaining fluid was returned to the duodenum. Juice composite samples were analyzed for activities of α‐amylase, trypsin, chymotrypsin and lipase. Secretion of pancreatic α‐amylase was lower (p < 0.05) when comparing lambs fed 20% starch diet with 30%, 40% and 50% starch diets. Lipase secretion was greater (p < 0.05) in lambs fed 40% starch diet compared with the other diets. Total secretion of juice, trypsin and chymotrypin was not affected (p > 0.05) by dietary starch concentration. Rumen escape starch increased with increasing dietary starch concentration (p < 0.05). Regression analysis showed that increasing RES results in a quadratic increase (p < 0.05) in pancreatic α‐amylase and lipase secretion, and the secretion of α‐amylase and lipase is maximum when RES is 113 and 83 g/day respectively. These results suggest that optimal RES for pancreatic secretion of α‐amylase and lipase is 80–110 g/day in adult goats.  相似文献

The effect of dietary vegetable oils differing in fatty acid composition that were infused directly into the duodenum on exocrine pancreatic secretions in pigs has not previously been studied. The objective of the present study was to determine the acute response of the exocrine pancreas to vegetable oils with various fatty acid profiles under prandial conditions. Six growing pigs (BW 13.2 kg) were surgically prepared with pancreatic duct catheters and duodenal reentrant T-cannulas. The animals were fed twice a day (1000 and 1600) a commercial weaner diet at a rate of 2% of BW. Beginning with the morning feeding, olive oil, coconut oil, or saline as a control were infused in boluses every 5 min in total 0.1% of BW over a period of 1 h directly into the duodenum according to a 3 x 3 Latin square design. Pancreatic juice was collected over a period of 4 h, beginning 1 h preprandially (0900) until 3 h postprandially (1300). A time effect was observed after the infusion of olive oil on the volume of secretion, on protein contents and outputs, as well as on lipase contents and outputs and on colipase contents. The infusion of saline and coconut oil changed the runs of the curves for lipase and colipase outputs. No time x treatment interactions were observed regarding volume of secretion, protein contents and outputs, trypsin contents and outputs, and lipase outputs. The runs of the curves for lipase contents were different between the olive oil and saline treatment and between the olive oil and coconut oil treatment. The runs of the curves for the olive oil and saline treatment differed from each other regarding colipase contents. Pooled values of colipase outputs were elevated after coconut oil treatment, and a positive correlation between trypsin and colipase contents was found. Under prandial conditions, the exocrine pancreas responds differently in its acute secretion to different vegetable oils due to the differences in the fatty acid profiles.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted to study the effects of feeding systems on feeding behavior, aggression, social ranks and average daily gain (ADG) of pigs. In Exp. 1, feed was delivered during the day from 1100 to 1400 and at night from 2300 to 0200. One pen containing 10 barrows and 10 gilts was used. Correlation coefficients were calculated between pairs of traits. In Exp. 2, four feeding systems were tested using similar group composition as in Exp. 1. Two feeding systems were ad libitum, offering either dry or wet feed; the other two used time-restricted feeding from 0900 to 1100 and from 1600 to 1800, but with water supplied either ad libitum or time-restricted. Analyses of variance were used to test feeding system effects; correlation coefficients were calculated for pairs of traits. Results of Exp. 1 indicated that pigs displayed predominantly daytime activities. Frequency of aggressive acts were correlated significantly with feeding frequency (r = .48), time to first feeding (r = -.50) and ADG (r = .56). In Exp. 2, pigs on time-restricted feeding with ad libitum water had significantly depressed ADG and reduced feed intake. A possible association between time-restricted feeding and water intake is postulated. Feeding behavior, aggression and social rank were associated with ADG in time-restricted systems but not in ad libitum systems. There was a tendency in time-restricted-fed pigs for the more aggressive pigs to perform more feeding activities, to rank higher in the social order, and to gain faster.  相似文献

This trial was conducted to determine the extent of prececal starch digestibility depending on the botanical origin of starch and on diet characteristics (i.e., composition and feeding pattern). The prececal disappearance of six substrates (oats, barley, corn, horse bean, potato, and wheat) was measured in four cannulated horses fed (as-fed basis) 11.8 g/kg BW of a high-fiber (HF) or high-starch (HS) pelleted feed and 10.0 g/kg BW of meadow hay using the mobile bag technique (MBT). The daily feeding pattern was either three meals (two meals of pellets and one meal of hay) or five meals (three meals of pellets and two meals of hay). The experimental procedure was a 2 x 2 factorial arrangement tested in a Latin square design. After 2 wk of adaptation to the diet, collections were made on 5 d. Thirty nylon bags, composed of five bags of each substrate, were intubated to each horse during the ingestion of the morning meal. Bags were collected in the cecum, using a magnet, at 9 h postintubation. In spite of strong interindividual differences, approximately 80% of the intubated bags were collected. On average, the mean retention time of the bags was 6.2 h (+/-0.17). Regardless of the feeding pattern, the transit of the bags was faster when the fiber content of the diet was higher (P = 0.003). Likewise, regardless of the meal composition, transit was also faster when the ration was split into five daily meals (P = 0.001). The DM disappearance, corrected with particulate losses (DMD(c)), differed depending on the substrate tested (33.5, 57.1, 63.8, 67.7, 78.6, and 86.2% for potato, horse bean, oats, barley, corn, and wheat, respectively; P = 0.001). The DMD(c) of corn, barley, and potato was higher when HS was fed (P = 0.020); regardless of the substrate, DMD(c) was higher with five daily meals (P = 0.001). The starch disappearance (StarchD(c)) was different depending on the substrate (P = 0.001; 36.1, 71.2, 86.6, 89.2, 99.0, and 99.7% for potato, horse bean, barley, corn, wheat, and oats, respectively). Whatever the substrate, StarchD(c) was higher when HS was fed (P = 0.007), but it was not affected by the feeding pattern of the diet. Although passage rate was modified and feed intake was different, the botanical origin of starch was the main factor that affected prececal starch disappearance in horses.  相似文献

A study was conducted to determine the effects of feeding spineless cactus cladodes on diuresis and urinary electrolyte excretion in goats. Five bucks were used in a 5 × 5 Latin square experiment with 17-day periods. Experimental diets contained (g/kg dry matter (DM) basis) 370, 470, 570, 670, and 770 spineless cactus cladodes. Water consumption from feed and urine output increased linearly (P < 0.05) as the level of cactus cladodes in the diet increased. However, water intake from drinking was low and unaffected by cactus cladode level. Creatinine clearance and urinary Na excretion were similar for all dietary treatments while K excretion decrease linearly (P < 0.05) as the level of cactus cladodes in the diet increased. Feeding cactus cladodes caused diuresis and reduced urinary K excretion in goats. Possible reasons for these effects include water over-consumption from cactus cladodes and high dietary K intake.  相似文献

When animals are offered a choice of feeds that are nutritionally complementary, they are able to select a consistent combination of these feeds over long periods of time. Analysis of how such consistent diet choice is achieved, in terms of short-term feeding behavior, may further our knowledge of how animals regulate nutrient intake. Previous work, on meal pattern analysis and on nutrient synchronization, led us to hypothesize that animals may select a consistent diet within a meal. In three experiments cows were offered a choice between high- (H) and low- (L) protein feeds and short-term feeding behavior data were collected using computerized feeders. Feeding behavior was first analyzed in terms of visit characteristics. A greater average daily intake of H, relative to L, was more closely related to the ratio of H visits to L visits than to differences in the intake per visit to feeders supplying H or L. Individual meal criteria were estimated using a mixed-distribution model, and visits were clustered into meals. Cows typically had approximately six meals per day. The observed frequency distribution of meal composition, in terms of the proportion of visits to H feeders, was determined. Subsequently, the observed visits were randomly reclustered into bouts consisting of the same number of visits as were observed in meals, and the frequency distribution of random bout composition was calculated. If frequency distributions of meals and random bouts coincide, then this is evidence that cows do not regulate diet choice within a meal. Comparison of the frequency distributions of meals and random bouts provided no evidence that cows attempted to achieve their long-term average diet composition within a meal. We also investigated whether cows tried to achieve a consistent diet choice within a meal by adjusting their intake per visit, depending on the feed type visited and the proportion of visits to H feeders in a meal. There was no evidence that this occurred. In conclusion, our analyses have shown that cows did not attempt to select within a meal a consistent diet in terms of protein to energy ratio. Indeed, our data and the literature suggest that the timeframe over which the intake of energy and protein is regulated must be greater than a meal in a number of animal species.  相似文献

This study determined the effects of silage chop length (20?mm; long or 10?mm; short) and diurnal time on feeding behaviour of 80 feedlots steers. Feed intake and feeding behaviour of each steer in each pen were measured continuously from 0:00 to 12:00?h (AM) and from 12:00 to 24:00?h (PM). Chop length had no effect on feed intake or the growth performance of steers, but longer chop length increased the duration of feeding and reduced the rate of intake. Head down time and head down time per feeding activities were greater during the PM than AM. There was a chop length?×?diurnal time interaction for feeding frequency with the number of bunk visits being greater in the PM than AM for both diets. Feeding activities were 50% higher during the PM than AM when steers were fed either long- or short-chopped silage diets twice daily.  相似文献

The physiological controls of feeding behavior in pigs are reviewed. Feeding patterns, central nervous system integration of the control systems and the influence of taste and olfaction are briefly considered, but the emphasis of the review is on the specific control systems that determine meal size. The glucostatic mechanism of stimulation of eating operates in the pig, but is probably an emergency control in response to a severe deficiency of glucose available to the central nervous system. The effective controls determining meal size are predominantly inhibitory signals initiated within or near the gastrointestinal tract by the presence of food. There is evidence that a rise in osmoconcentration caused by the arrival of foodstuffs in the duodenum during a meal can inhibit feeding behavior to a degree proportional to the hypertonicity of the duodenal content. Arrival of chyme in the duodenum will also trigger the release of cholecystokinin (CCK). Exogenous CCK injected by various routes inhibits feeding, suggesting that endogenous CCK acts as a satiety or inhibitory signal during meals. Gastrointestinal distention during meals probably also acts as an inhibitory signal, but only preliminary studies have been made to delineate the role of this factor in feeding behavior. It is concluded that although considerable research has been conducted to reveal what control mechanisms operate in pigs, even the mechanisms already investigated are not firmly established as operating in normal meals. The osmoreceptive, CCK and gastrointestinal distention control systems are promising hypotheses worthy of further study, and the search for other control systems that may also participate continues.  相似文献

This study analysed feeding patterns and feed selective consumption by loose-housed lactating dairy cows fed diets based on maize silage (MS) with different particle length (PL) to establish its effects on overall dry matter intake (DMI) and productive performance. Twelve multiparous Holstein cows were offered a total mixed ration (TMR) with three different PL of MS at harvesting (i.e., long, medium, and short). Results demonstrated greater numbers of day-time meals (i.e., 07:30–19:00 h) when PL was decreased from long to medium (P < 0.05). Night-time (i.e., 19:00–06:30 h) changes in the feeding pattern included an increased amount of feed per meal (P < 0.05) and a tendency to increase eating time per meal (P < 0.10) in cows fed the short-PL diet. Lowering the PL of MS also lowered the selective consumption against physically effective fibre larger than 1.18 mm (peNDF> 1.18; P < 0.05) and in favour of fine particles (i.e., particles passing through 1.18 mm screen; P < 0.01). Decreasing PL of MS from long to medium and short increased daily DMI as well as the intake of energy and other nutrients contained in the diet including the amount of peNDF> 1.18 (P < 0.01). The decrease in the PL of the diet also was associated with increased milk protein and lactose yield and milk urea nitrogen (P < 0.05). The actual milk yield and fat-corrected milk were not affected by the diet (P > 0.10). Although lowering of the PL tended to increase daily milk energy output (P < 0.10), the ratio between energy milk output and the energy intake was linearly decreased (P < 0.01), indicating a lower milk efficiency for the lower-PL diets. In conclusion, particle length of MS in a TMR has the potential to modulate circadian feeding patterns, selective consumption of the feed, daily DMI, and milk composition in high-producing dairy cows.  相似文献

Voluntary feed intake of hyperprolific sows can be insufficient to cover the requirements for milk production and maintenance of body condition. A bulky diet fed during pregnancy is known to prepare sows for an ad libitum feed supply after parturition as shown by the increased feed intake during lactation. The aim of this study was to investigate the feeding behavior of young sows during their first lactation to evaluate the further impact of the feeding experience acquired during pregnancy, through the addition of dietary fiber in the diet. Analysis of the feeding pattern and the profile of feed intake tested the hypothesis that lactating sows would exhibit different feeding strategies depending on the diet during pregnancy. During pregnancy, 24 primiparous sows (Large White x Landrace) were offered either 2.4 kg of a control diet/d containing 3.16% crude fiber or 2.8 kg of a high-fiber diet/d containing 12.42% crude fiber. All sows received 33 MJ of DE/d. From the first day postpartum until weaning, all sows were offered the same lactation diet ad libitum. The feeding pattern during lactation was recorded as ADFI, meal frequency, and meal size. In lactation, the ADFI did not differ according to the treatment. Compared with control sows, high-fiber sows consumed their diet in more (P < 0.05) but smaller meals (P < 0.05). In both treatments, ADFI and the number of daily meals increased over weeks of lactation (P < 0.001). All sows presented a strong diurnal and bimodal feeding activity evolving toward 2 distinct feeding periods occurring from 0500 to 0900 and from 1400 to 1800 and accounting for 0.64 of the total daily feed intake during the third week of lactation. The provision of a fibrous diet during pregnancy pointed out the role of an early feeding experience on the development of feeding behavior during the first reproductive cycle.  相似文献

Nine crossbred beef steers (344 +/- 26 kg) fitted with ruminal cannulas were used in a randomized complete block design to evaluate the effects of feeding frequency and feed intake fluctuation on total tract digestion, digesta kinetics, and ruminal fermentation profiles in limit-fed steers. In Period 1, steers were allotted randomly to one of four dietary treatments: 1) feed offered once daily at 0800; 2) feed offered once daily at 0800 with a 10% fluctuation in day-to-day feed intake; 3) feed offered twice daily at 0800 and 1700; and 4) feed offered twice daily at 0800 and 1700 with a 10% fluctuation in a day-to-day feed intake. In Period 2, steers were reallocated across treatments. The 90% concentrate diet was fed at 90% of the ad-libitum consumption by each steer. Chromium-EDTA and Yb-labeled steam-flaked corn were intraruminally infused at 0800 on d 1 and 3 and Co-EDTA and Er-labeled steam-flaked corn were infused on d 2 and 4 of the 4-d collection period. Ruminal samples were collected at 0, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, and 24 h after the 0800 feeding, and total feces were collected for 4 d. Total tract digestibilities of OM, N, and starch were lowest (fluctuation x frequency, P < .05) when feed was offered twice daily with a 10% fluctuation in intake. Ruminal fluid volume and passage rate were not affected (P > .10) by feeding frequency or intake fluctuation. A frequency x fluctuation x sampling time interaction occurred (P < .01) for ruminal pH. Steers fed a constant amount of feed once daily had higher (P < .05) ruminal pH at 0, 3, 18, and 24 h than steers fed once daily with a 10% fluctuation in feed intake. Total VFA concentration was greater (P < .01) at 9 h after the 0800 feeding when feed was offered once vs twice daily. Feeding twice daily increased (P < .05) the molar proportion of acetate and decreased (P < .05) the molar proportion of propionate. Increasing feeding frequency resulted in a more stable ruminal environment; however, the increased acetate:propionate ratio with twice-daily feeding might result in lower efficiency of energy utilization by limit-fed steers.  相似文献

Four goats (30.1 ± 1.3 kg) with common bile duct re‐entrant catheter and duodenal catheter were used to evaluate the effects of duodenal leucine infusion on pancreatic exocrine secretion and plasma parameters with two 4 × 4 Latin square design experiments. In the long‐term infusion experiment, goats were fed twice daily [700 g/day, dry matter (DM) basis] at 8:00 and 18:00 hours and were duodenally infused with 0, 3, 6, 9 g/day leucine for 14 days. Pancreatic juice and jugular blood samples were collected over 1‐h intervals for 6 h daily from d 11 to 14 days to encompass a 24‐h day. In the short‐term experiment, goats were infused leucine for 10 h continuously at the same infusion rate with Experiment 1 after feed deprivation for 24 h repeated every 10 days. Pancreatic juice and blood samples were collected at 0, 1, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 h of infusion. The results showed that the long‐term leucine infusion did not affect pancreatic juice secretion, protein output, trypsin and lipase secretion and plasma insulin concentration, but linearly increased α‐amylase secretion. No changes in pancreatic protein and lipase secretion were observed in the short‐term infusion. Pancreatic juice and α‐amylase secretion responded quadratically, with the greatest values observed in the 3 and 6 g/day leucine respectively. Trypsin secretion linearly decreased, while plasma insulin concentration increased linearly with increased leucine infusion. The results demonstrated that duodenal leucine infusion dose and time dependently regulated pancreatic enzyme secretion not associated with the change in plasma insulin concentration.  相似文献

Because feed is the major cost to pork production, management practices and breeding strategies are aimed at optimizing feed intake. Knowledge about the shape of feed intake and feeding behavior curves may be of interest for optimization of lean meat production. This study investigated trends based on daily measurements of feeding behavior in 200 Duroc barrows, originating from 5 sires and 200 dams, during growth. Daily values were examined between 88 and 188 d of age. Furthermore, phenotypic correlations between feeding length and feeding rate, and feeding frequency, feed intake, residual feed intake, growth rate, and rate of fat deposition were investigated for a period between 95 and 175 d of age. No differences were observed between sires for parameter estimates of a curvilinear function fitted to data on feeding length as a function of age, but the effect of sire was significant (P < 0.01) for values at individual ages up to 132 d of age. Feeding rate (feed ingested for each minute spent eating) increased in a linear fashion with age (average R(2) = 0.80) and differently so for different sires (P < 0.05 for the intercept and P < 0.01 for the regression coefficient). Because the increase in BW is linear over this time period (average R(2) = 0.99), the results suggest that feeding rate increased with increased BW and is related to the physical capacity for feed intake. Results indicate that pigs that ate faster also ate more (r = 0.29, P < 0.001), grew faster (r = 0.40, P < 0.001), and grew fatter (r = 0.28, P < 0.001), but had no greater or lower residual feed intake (r = -0.01). The linear regression slope of feeding rate on age seemed inherent to the individual and was correlated with feed intake but not with residual feed intake. Feeding length may be selected for in order to regulate absolute feed intake at different stages of growth.  相似文献
