A surgical technique was devised to collect rete testis fluid from 14 mature goats. The tubular portion of the extratesticular rete testis was cannulated where it penetrated the tunica albuginea of the testis under the center of the head of the epididymis. The tip of the cannula was sutured in place in the extratesticular rete testis and the opposite end was passed through the scrotum and into a plastic collection bottle. The bottle was glued to pillow ticking, which was sutured to the scrotum. Continuous flow of rete testis fluid occurred for 0 to 14 days and was usually terminated by a sperm clot in the cannula. The flow rate was 0.59 +/- 0.37 ml/hr.  相似文献

The use of the scanning electron microscope gave a three dimensional representation of the epithelial surface. Additionally, light microscopy revealed the representative structure of the epithelium. The rete testis showed a single layer of cubic epithelial cells. Short and dense microvilli were found on the surface. Sporadically a single, cilia-like structure was recognized. An extratesticular rete testis was identified. The flowing transition of the epithelium between the rete testis and the efferent ductuli occurred at different levels, so that both kinds of epithelial structures were recognized in the same area. The efferent ductuli were composed of a single columnar epithelium consisting of two cell types, principal cells and ciliated cells. The ciliated cells were recognized by their cilia protruding into the lumen. The principal cells showed microvilli on their surface and bleblike apical protrusions which erupt into the lumen.  相似文献

The early development of the gonads, and the ontogenesis of the rete testis and tubuli seminiferi recti in the chicken (Gallus domesticus) The primordium of the gonads can be discerned in the 4-day chick embryo by the elevation of the celomic epithelium to form germinal epithelium, and by the arrival of the primordial germ cells. Already in the 4½ day chick embryo there appears on the left side of the body, as a result of the first proliferation of the germinal epithelium, a subepithelial mesenchymelike cell conglomeration, which has been erroneously labelled in the literature a “urogenital union”. In contrast to the opinion expressed in the literature such a union does not appear until the 10th day, when the mesenchymal cells change to forerunners of rete cells which after hatching differentiate into rete-epithelial cells. The rete testis consists of intra and extratesticular transverse cisterns and of an intercalated and partically subdivided longitudinal cistern. The tubuli seminiferi contori end on the intracapsular lingitudinal cisterns either directly, or indirectly by intercalated tubuli siminiferi recti or intratesticular transverse cisterns.  相似文献

In this study, the epididymal region of the Sudani duck was investigated using histological and lectin histochemical methods. Morphologically, the epididymal region of the Sudani duck is composed of extratesticular rete testis, proximal and distal efferent ductules, a short connecting duct, and epididymal ducts. Morphometric analysis of the epididymal region of Sudani duck revealed that the efferent ductules predominate in relation to the epididymal ducts. The distribution of sugar moieties within the epididymal region of the Sudani duck was investigated using ten different fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC) conjugated lectins. In the rete testis epithelium, only PHA-L showed a positive reaction. Efferent ductules in contrary exhibited a wide range of lectin affinity whereas six positive lectins (Con A, LCA, PNA, WGA, PHA-L, PHA-E) were observed. In the connecting and epididymal ducts, four lectins (Con A, WGA, PHA-L, PHA-E) were also detected. GSA-I, UEA-I, and LTA were at all not evident in the epididymal region of the Sudani duck. In conclusion, the correlation between the large areas of the epididymal region occupied by the efferent ductules and the wide range of sugar affinity of this portion may confirm the speculation that efferent ductules might be the primary site of fluid reabsorption in the epididymal region of Sudani duck.  相似文献

The rete testis (RT) in the cat comprises three distinct and sequential parts: septal or adlobular; mediastinal and tunical parts. This last part is followed by the small extratesticular rete testis. The whole of the RT tubules and/or channels is lined by single low columnar and/or cuboidal epithelium with ultrastructural peculiarities of secretory and absorptive functions. The Golgi apparatus polarity (cis-trans surfaces), its relation with the long profiles of the ER, mainly with the rough ER, and presence of apical uncoated electrondense granules are suggestive of active release of macromolecules, probably glycoproteins. The absorptive function is proposed through the observation of a conspicuous microvacuolar-vesicular apical complex in epithelial cells. Moreover spermatozoa phagocytosis is also noticed, mainly in the septal part of the RT.  相似文献

The feline urogenital junction is situated between the extratesticular rete and the spacious initial segments of the efferent ductules. The rete epithelium is cuboidal to low columnar. The rete cells forming the junction rest on a wavy basal lamina, display deep mutual invaginations, possess central nuclei with several infoldings and form a distinct border with the columnar epithelial cells of the initial segments of the ductuli efferentes. The epithelium of the initial segments is composed of ciliated cells and non-ciliated principal cells. The latter are the dominating type and characterized by an apical brush-border and a supranuclear endocytotic apparatus. The stroma of the extratesticular rete contains an abundance of collagen whereas contractile cells are here generally absent. In contrast, the initial segments of the efferent ductules are surrounded by elastic fibres and a layer of contractile cells. All nerves for the feline urogenital junction come from the nervus spermaticus superior. In the epididymal head, small nerve bundles deviate into the septa between the ductules. Single fibres establish a dense network within the muscular coat of the ductuli. At the transition to the extratesticular rete, this network ends abruptly. Nerve fibres in the confines of the rete are associated with blood vessels or proceed to the testicular interior, but establish no relationships with the rete epithelium or the myofibroblasts of the mediastinum. The nervous network in the walls of the efferent ductules and their initial segments is not only composed of sympathetic but also parasympathetic, non-myelinated fibres. Particularly noteworthy is the abundance of calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP)- and substance P (SP)-containing axons around the initial segments. Both neuroproteins are consistent markers for sensory neurones. Taken together, it can be assumed that the entry of seminal fluid and spermatozoa into the efferent ductules is controlled by a regulatory nervous chain provided with afferent and efferent components.  相似文献

A 9-year-old intact male alpaca (Lama pacos) was examined because of marked enlargement of the left scrotum. Ultrasound examination revealed a thin-walled anechoic structure in the area of the left testis. Aspirated fluid contained spermatozoa, many of which had abnormal morphology. Castration was performed and the left testis was markedly enlarged with a clear fluid-filled cyst. The cyst was lined by a single layer of squamous to cuboidal epithelial cells consistent with those originating from rete testis. The right testis was of a comparable size and shape to that of normal alpaca testis, but the rete testis was mildly to moderately dilated. Additional findings included chronic inflammation of the right testis and epididymis and epididymal fibrosis with ductal hyperplasia on the left. The diagnosis was bilateral cystic rete testis, most likely secondary to chronic inflammation.  相似文献

Benign and malignant epithelial tumors of the rete testis in mice   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2
Two papillary cystadenomas and one papillary cystadenocarcinoma in the rete testis were found in two of 500 very old male JCL:ICR mice; the hosts had no other tumors. One mouse had bilateral cystic tumors. A 5 x 3 x 3 mm papillary cystadenoma was observed in the rete of the right testis. A 7 x 3 x 3 mm tumor with a mixed pattern of papillary cystadenocarcinoma and papillotubular adenocarcinoma was found in the rete of the left testis; the latter extended from the mediastinum to the ductuli efferents and the caput epididymis. The other mouse had a 9 x 5 x 5 mm papillary cystadenoma of borderline malignancy in the rete of the right testis. The mice had no clinical signs.  相似文献

(1) Immunohistochemical methods and three antibodies (against actin, desmin and smooth muscle actin) were used to demonstrate the myoid cells in the domestic fowl testis and its excurrent ducts. (2) A positive reaction to actin, smooth muscle actin and desmin was found in the myoid cells of peritubular tissue of the testis and in rete testis, ductuli efferentes and ductus epididymidis. (3) In the testis myoid-reactive cells form a single layer. In the rete testis, ductuli efferentes and the ductus epididymidis reactive myoid cells form a main component of the stroma. (4) Positive reaction to actin, smooth muscle actin and desmin was also observed in the myoid cells of the tunica albuginea and in the wall of blood vessels in the testis and epididymis, indicating a contractile function for the testicular capsule.  相似文献

An 18-month-old Angus bull presented to Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine for a routine breeding soundness evaluation and lameness evaluation. He was classified as deferred potential breeder due to a lameness and was donated to the university. Following treatment, the bull's lameness resolved. He passed the breeding soundness examination in accordance with the Society for Theriogenology standards. However, avascular dilated areas at the level of the mediastinum testis of the right testicle were detected via Doppler ultrasonography. A high level of vascularity is routinely seen with neoplasia, such as teratomas. Due to the lack of vascularity, a presumptive diagnosis of tubular ectasia of the rete testis was made. The bull was castrated. The right testicle was submitted for histopathology revealing a definitive diagnosis of tubular ectasia of the rete testis.  相似文献

Junctional complexes of the epithelia lining the rete testis, efferent ductules, connecting ductules and epididymal duct in the fowl were examined by transmission electron microscopy and by a tracer method using lanthanum nitrate. The junctional complexes were composed of tight junctions, adhering junctions and desmosomes. In the rete testis, one or two points of membrane fusion were observed at the tight junctions. In the efferent and connecting ductules and epididymal duct, the tight junctions consisted of a series of punctate membrane fusions. The adhering junctions and desmosomes showed no remarkable structural differences among these excurrent ducts. Vascularly infused lanthanum nitrate penetrated into the tight junctions of individual epithelia for variable distances, but was prevented from entering the lumen at the site of membrane fusion. These results suggest that the tight junctions can restrict the diffusion of materials via the paracellular route, and that they play an important role in maintaining a suitable fluid environment within the excurrent ducts.  相似文献

A 104-week-old male CD (SD) rat exhibited enlargement of the left testis. Microscopically, this mass was demarcated from the testis by fibrous connective tissue and characterized by cystic dilatation with single-layered columnar cells and papillary proliferation connected to the solid growth area without clear boundaries. In the solid growth area, cells were dissected into irregular alveolar nests by scant fibrous tissue with small blood vessels. The nuclei of proliferating cells were variable in size and round- to oval-shaped, and their cytoplasm was pale or eosinophilic and sometimes contained vacuoles or eosinophilic granules. Immunohistochemically, the tumor cells were positive for vimentin and cytokeratin (CK) 7. Since CK7 was exclusively positive in the rete testis epithelium of the naïve rat, it was valuable to diagnose this tumor as rete testis-originated. Based on these results and the lack of apparent pleomorphism, mitotic figures, and metastasis, the present case was diagnosed as rete testis adenoma.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to answer the open questions concerning the development of the horse's testis. This study revealed that the seminiferous tubules originate from the sex cords of the coelomic epithelium and Leydig cells from the proximal part of mesonephric nephrones, whereas the rete and the ductuli efferentes derive from intermediate and distal parts of the mesonephric tubules. During the development the Leydig cells undergo an enormous proliferation due to the PMSG secretion in the mare. The proliferation of these cells prevent the deep penetration of the rete into the medulla and is therefore the reason for the reduced extension of the rete and mediastinum testis in the stallion, although 80% of these cells degenerate in the last third of pregnancy. The growth of the seminiferous tubules during sexual maturity reduces the rete to the extremitas capitata of the testis.  相似文献

A new type of intestinal re-entrant cannula for the small intestine of pigs is described. It consisted of an intestinal tube joined to a stem bearing a flange and two perspex plugs ("maintenance plug" and "collection plug"). The cannula was inserted in the intestine through the incision on the antimesenteric side of the intestine and no transection of the intestine was required. No outside connection was present and the cannula extended only 1 to 2cm beyond the body. Cannulae were inserted in the duodenum and ileum of 5 pigs and these functioned satisfactorily for up to 3 months.  相似文献

A bilateral testicular neoplasm from an 11-year-old mixed-breed male dog was removed surgically and examined histologically. The neoplasm was nonencapsulated and composed of acinar and tubular structures lined by one or more layers of neoplastic polyhedral epithelial cells with an abundant mucinous secretion. On histochemistry, all neoplastic cells and associated secretions were periodic acid-Schiff positive. Some neoplastic cells and all associated secretions were positive on mucicarmine stain, and some neoplastic cells, all the stroma, and associated secretions were positive on alcian blue stain. On immunohistochemistry, the neoplastic cells had strong diffuse cytoplasmic immunoreactivity for cytokeratin and vimentin, weak scattered cytoplasmic immunoreactivity for carcinoembryonic antigen and neuron-specific enolase, and no immunoreactivity for S-100. On the basis of histopathology, histochemistry, and immunohistochemical findings, a diagnosis of mucinous adenocarcinoma of rete testis was made. Rete testis adenocarcinoma is a well known but very rare neoplasm in humans. To our knowledge, this is the first report of the mucinous variant of adenocarcinoma of the rete testis in a dog.  相似文献

OBJECTIVE: To develop laparoscopic-assisted techniques for enterostomy feeding tube placement and full-thickness biopsy of the jejunum in dogs. ANIMALS: 15 healthy dogs. PROCEDURE Dogs were anesthetized, and positive pressure ventilation was provided. A trocar cannula for the laparoscope was inserted on the ventral midline caudal to the umbilicus. For enterostomy tube placement, a second trocar cannula was placed lateral to the right rectus abdominis muscle, and a Babcock forceps was used to grasp the duodenum and elevate it to the incision made for the cannula. The duodenum was sutured to the abdominal wall, and a feeding tube was inserted. For jejunal biopsy, a third trocar cannula was placed lateral to the left rectus abdominis muscle. A portion of jejunum was elevated to the incision for the second or third cannula, and a full-thickness biopsy specimen was obtained. A second specimen was obtained from another portion of jejunum, and retention sutures for the 2 biopsy sites were tied so that serosal surfaces of the biopsy sites were apposed to each other. Dogs were euthanatized 30 days after surgery. RESULTS: The enterostomy tube was properly positioned and functional in all 8 dogs that underwent laparoscopic-assisted enterostomy tube placement, and sufficient samples for histologic examination were obtained from all 7 dogs that underwent laparoscopic-assisted jejunal biopsy. None of the dogs had any identifiable problems after surgery. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: Results suggest that in dogs, laparoscopic-assisted procedures for enterostomy tube placement and jejunal biopsy are an acceptable alternative to procedures performed during a laparotomy.  相似文献

This case report describes the laparoscopic approach for removal of cystic intra-abdominal testicles in the standing colt. One 3-year-old Tobiano and one 2-year-old Warmblood colts were referred for abdominal cryptorchidectomy. The horses were clinically and ultrasonographically examined and a presumptive diagnosis of unilateral abdominal cryptorchidism was made. A laparoscopic approach via the flank was used to localise each abdominal testicle. In both colts the abdominal testicle was enlarged and cystic. Each spermatic cord was ligated and fluid was aspirated from the testicle. By reducing the size of the mass minimally invasive removal through an enlarged instrumental portal was possible. Histopathology revealed a cystic rete testis in the Tobiano and a teratoma in the Warmblood. In these cases the cystic enlarged testicles were nonpainful and were incidental findings. A cystic testicle might be developmental (Tobiano case) or arise due to neoplastic transformation (Warmblood case). The laparoscopic approach for enlarged cyst-like testicles in the standing horse offers a secure minimally invasive method for removal.  相似文献

The feasibility of thoracoscopy for viewing the chest cavity and performing pulmonary lobectomy was assessed in 8 mongrel dogs. Previously, selective intubation had been performed in another group of dogs (n = 8) in order to monitor respiratory physiology and assess its safety. Each hemithorax was intubated using a double-barrelled endotracheal tube with one barrel placed in the left main bronchus and the other in the bifurcation of the trachea. The thoracoscope was introduced through a cannula inserted through a 2-cm incision at the ventral third of the left 5th intercostal space. The cranial, dorsal, and caudal surfaces of the pleura, lobes of the left lung, and the mediastinum were examined. A 2nd cannula was located in the dorsal 3rd of the 5th intercostal space with a prior incision and used for the introduction of forceps to separate the viscera. To biopsy, a 3rd cannula was inserted at the dorsal third of the 8th intercostal space with a prior incision, through which a 12-mm diameter stapler was introduced. Should a lobectomy be necessary, a 4th cannula is located in the middle third of the 4th intercostal space. Excision of the left caudal pulmonary lobe was performed through the incision made for the 12-mm diameter cannula (8th intercostal space); a twisting movement facilitated removal. Thoracoscopy is a procedure that can be used in dogs and is particularly suitable for examination, collection of biopsy specimens, and even lung lobectomies.  相似文献

The rete ovarii is the homologue of the rete testis. It develops from cells of mesonephric origin which immigrate into the developing gonad of the embryo. The mature form of the rete ovarii is generally found to be groups of anastomosing tubules lined by cuboidal or columnar epithelium. These tubules are usually located in the hilus of the ovary, but may extend through the medulla or be isolated in the mesovarium adjacent to the hilus. The rete is often continuous with the transverse ductules through which it contacts the longitudinal duct of the epoophoron. The rete ovarii is important in the control of meiosis in the maturing ovary. Cells of the rete ovarii differentiate to form granulosa cells as well. The rete is also credited with secretory capability, a hypothesis supported by the observation of secretory material in the lumina of the rete tubules in several species. Cysts have been observed in the rete ovarii of several species. The rete ovarii of the adult does not appear to be a functionless vestige as has been previously reported.  相似文献
