Staff members of the Department of Botany of Palacký University in Olomouc and Gene Bank Department – Workplace Olomouc, Research Institute of Crop Production in Prague, Czech Republic, conducted an expedition in seven European countries (Austria, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Switzerland) in August/September 1999 to collect wild Lactuca spp. germplasm and study its geographic distribution, ecology and biodiversity. During the mission, more than 600 locations were visited resulting in the collection of 602 seed samples (accessions) of wild Lactuca species and 13 seed samples of related genera (Chondrilla and Mycelis). Lactuca serriola f. serriola, L. serriola f. integrifolia, L. saligna and L. viminea subsp. chondrilliflora were prevalent in southern Europe (Italy, France), however, only L. serriola was common in central and western Europe (Austria, Czech Republic, Germany, Netherlands, Switzerland). The greatest diversity of Lactuca species was found in France, where also the most seed samples (165) were collected. The most characteristic habitats with a high density of Lactuca spp. populations were observed along roads and highways, grassy ditches, ruderal communities, and dust-heaps. Natural infections by powdery mildew (Erysiphe cichoracearum) and downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) on some wild Lactuca spp. were observed. Recent observations concerning the geographic distribution, population structure, habitats, and natural occurrence of diseases of Lactuca spp. are discussed. This assemblage of genetic resources of Lactuca spp. can serve as the basis of future studies of species diversification, spatial population structure, plant microevolution, domestication processes, and genetic variability of host-parasite interactions. 相似文献

During 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2008, trips were undertaken in the United States and Canada by members of the Department of Botany, Palacky University in Olomouc (Czech Republic) to record distributions and sample the diversity of wild and weedy Lactuca species. In that period, 16 states in the USA (Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Iowa, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming) and two provinces in Canada (Ontario, Quebec) were visited. Seven wild and weedy Lactuca species (L. serriola, L. saligna, L. virosa, L. canadensis, L. biennis, L. floridana, L. ludoviciana), an interspecific hybrid (L. canadensis?×?L. ludoviciana), and an undetermined Lactuca species were recorded, and 343 seed samples were collected from 200 locations. The largest number of wild Lactuca species that we observed was recorded in Iowa, and the largest number of samples was collected in California. The most common habitats of weedy species (L. serriola, L. saligna and L. virosa) were along transport corridors, such as roadsides, road ditches, parking sites and petrol stations, grassy slopes and ruderal places. The most frequent species was L. serriola, an Old World introduction, which we observed in all states and provinces visited, except for New York, and in broad range of elevations (up to 2,358?m a.s.l.). Lactuca saligna was recorded only one time in Salinas, California. Lactuca virosa was found repeatedly in Washington State along the road to the Mt. St. Helens and in Redwoods, California. Native North American taxa (L. canadensis, L. floridana, L. ludoviciana) were recorded only in Iowa. Lactuca biennis was found only in Canada in the southern part of Quebec. Records of diseases and pests showed only occasional occurrences of downy mildew (Bremia lactucae) and powdery mildew (Golovinomyces cichoracearum). Most plant-disease findings were made in Canada. Results of these efforts enrich our knowledge of the distribution, ecogeography and ecobiology of Lactuca species occurring spontaneously in North America. Seed collections (accessions) will be conserved in the working collection of the genebank at Palacky University to support future research in ecogeography, ecobiology, resistance and genetic polymorphisms, and to enrich of germplasm diversity available for lettuce breeding. 相似文献

A total of 1027 genotypes of wild Lactuca spp. (L. serriola, L. saligna, and L. aculeata), originating from Israel, Jordan, East Turkey, Armenia, Kazakhstan, China, and various other countries in Europe were screened
for resistance to the lettuce downy mildew (Bremia lactucae Regel). The genotypes of L. serriola (N = 962); L. saligna (N = 43); and L. aculeata (N = 22) were tested at the seedling stage with two isolates of B. lactucae (race Bl-21 and Isr-74) isolated from cultivated lettuce in Italy and Israel, respectively. Altogether, the isolates possess
virulence against 17 out of 20 Dm genes/R-factors composing the established differential set of lettuce lines/varieties. They could therefore be used for preliminary
detection of the presence of new resistance factors. A total of 83 and three genotypes of L. serriola and L. saligna, respectively, were resistant to infection by each of the two isolates alone as well as to the infection by a mix of the
two isolates. These genotypes probably carry previously unknown resistance, and therefore could be suitable for exploitation
by breeders and further detailed research. The wild progenitor of lettuce, L. serriola, and related species harbor significant untapped genetic resources for lettuce improvement. 相似文献

Summary Patterns of achene proteins of L. sativa cultivars are mutually compared and compared with L. saligna, L. serriola and L. virosa. L. virosa and L. saligna are easy to identify and are characterized by typical banding patterns. L. sativa and L. serriola share the same banding pattern. They differ clearly from L. saligna and L. virosa. L. sativa and L. serriola are closely related (in terms of similarity), they form a common genepool and L. serriola is involved in the domestication process of L. sativa. Genetic diversity among 115 coffee accessions from the Coffea Germplasm Collection of IAC was assessed using SSR markers. The germplasm represents 73 accessions of Coffea arabica derived from spontaneous and subspontaneous plants in Ethiopia and Eritrea, species center of origin and diversity, 13 commercial
cultivars of C. arabica developed by the Breeding Program of IAC, 1 accession of C. arabica cv. ‘Geisha’, 13 accessions of C. arabica from Yemen, 5 accessions of C. eugenioides, 4 accessions of C. racemosa and 6 accessions of C. canephora. Genetic analysis was performed using average number of alleles per locus (A), proportion of polymorphic loci (P), Shannon’s genetic index (H′ and G′ST) and clustering analysis. All evaluated species were distinguished by a cluster analysis based on Jaccard’s coefficient.
Differentiation between the cultivated plants of C. arabica and accessions derived from spontaneous and subspontaneous plants was observed. Spontaneous and subspontaneous accessions
from Ethiopia were separated according to the geographical origin: east and west of the Great Rift Valley. Cultivated plants
showed a low genetic diversity with a division in two groups: accessions from Yemen (H′=0,028) and Brazilian commercial cultivars (H′=0,030). The results agreed with previously reported narrow genetic basis of cultivated plants of C. arabica and supported the hypotheses about domestication of the species. This study also showed a significant genetic diversity among
accessions from Ethiopia and Eritrea present in the Germplasm Collection of IAC. This diversity is specially observed in accessions
from Sidamo (H′=0,143), Kaffa (H′=0,142) and Illubabor (H′=0,147) indicating their importance as source of genetic variability for coffee breeding programs. 相似文献

A total of 1,383 accessions of wild barley (Hordeum vulgare ssp. spontaneum) held in the USDA-National Small Grains Collection, Aberdeen were screened for resistance to powdery mildew (Blumeria
graminis f. sp. hordei) in the Czech Republic. They were subsequently tested at the seedling stage for reaction to selected powdery mildew pathotypes and simultaneously for their adult plant resistance in the field. One hundred and twenty-three accessions exhibited resistance to 22 pathotypes in the greenhouse tests (reaction type 2–3 or lower) as well as resistance to the natural population of this pathogen in the field in the Czech Republic during at least 2-year testing. The seed protein contents of 179 accessions belonging to ten species of genus Fagopyrum were determined by means of the Kjeldahl method. The results indicated that there are significant differences of seed protein
content among different accessions within the same species. The average protein content of F. esculentum is 12.94%, ranging from 8.81–18.71%, and the protein content of Sibano is the highest, up to 18.71%, Gantian 1 the lowest
with 8.81%. The average protein content of tartary buckwheat is 12.17%, with the range from 7.82–18.94%, and the protein content
of cultivated tartary buckwheat Qianku 2 is the highest (18.59%), and that of Ganku 1 (7.82%) the lowest. Moreover, there
are significant differences of seed protein content among different buckwheat species and between the different buckwheat
types (between common buckwheat and tartary buckwheat, between the diploid and the tetraploid, between the cultivated and
the wild, and between the big-achene group and the small-achene group). The average seed protein content of F. giganteum is the highest in all tested species, up to 17.81% with the range of 13.91–21.27%, and that of F. callianthum the lowest, only 8.31%.

In this study, we investigated the genetic variation of allelopathic potential, its grey correlation with important agronomic
characters, and rank analysis on allelopathic stability of fifteen wheat accessions commonly grown in arid regions of the
Loess Plateau in China. The genetic variation of allelopathic property in dryland winter wheat showed significant differences
between accessions. Allelopathic effects exhibited high heritability (55–95%) throughout the life cycle of wheat. Heritability
was highest in the tillering stage and weakest in the seed filling stage. Allelopathic potential varied and was discontinuous
throughout the wheat life cycle. Grey correlation analysis indicated a close relationship between allelopathic potential dependant
on growth phase and agronomic characters. Allelopathic expression during some growth periods induced a partial correlation
effect on some important agronomic characters that affected wheat yield. Allelopathic heritability and its degree of influence
on yield were more evident in the vegetative growth stage compared to the reproductive stage. A multiple linear regression
was built between allelopathic potential during different growth periods and agronomic characters pursued in wheat breeding.
Allelopathic potential had a linear effect on production traits cultivated in wheat breeding. When allelopathic intensity
varied from 0 to 1 in the reproductive stage, plant height ranged from 44 to 108 cm, spike length from 6.4 to 9.2 cm, number
of spikelets with seeds from 13.4 to 21.0, mean seed number per spike from 41.5 to 50.3 and thousand seed weight from 36.2
to 38.3 g. Based on rank analysis, we concluded that there was a synergistic relationship between allelopathic potential in
wheat and genetic, chemical and ecological factors. Triticum aestivum L. ‘No 6 Lankao’ and T. aestivum L. ‘No 22 Xiaoyan’ were identified as stable and relatively strong allelopathic accessions, whereas T. aestivum L. ‘Lankao 95–25’ was a stable but relatively weak allelopathic cultivar. A collection of 123 winter and 106 spring wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) cultivars and breeding lines commonly grown in Nordic and Middle European countries were characterised for the composition
of high-molecular-weight (HMW) glutenin subunits on the ground of data from literature and experiments of author. HMW glutenin
subunit composition was determined by one-dimensional sodium dodecyl sulphate- polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE).
The present database includes data for cultivars and breeding lines from Finland (FIN – 56), Estonia (EST – 27), Sweden (SW
– 27), Germany (D – 24), Lithuania (LIT – 17), United Kingdom (UK – 6), France (F – 3), Poland (POL – 5), Italy (IT – 7),
Netherlands (NL – 6), Norway (NOR – 12), Russian Federation (RUS – 14 items). The occurrence of individual alleles and corresponding
HMW glutenin subunits in surveyed cultivars is demonstrated. Special attention has been paid to cultivars growing in neighbouring
countries with the aim to apply them in Estonian plant breeding. The database consists of 4 tables with data of HMW glutenin
subunits, encoding them Glu-1 alleles, quality score and sources of data. The database could be useful for varietal identification and for plant breeders

Eleven accessions of an under-utilized legume, Mucuna pruriens (L.) DC. var. utilis (Wall. ex Wight) Baker ex Burck (velvet bean) were collected from four districts of South India and their agronomic characters
were evaluated. The vegetative growth characters such as the germination percentage, plant height, number of leaves and branches
per plant were recorded. The yield based characters such as the number of clusters/plant (4–14), number of flowers/cluster
(3–15) and the fertility index (66–91%) were observed. The seed yield reaches 2.9–6.9 t/ha. The number of seeds per pod, seed
weight and the seed recovery percentage were also calculated. The level of diversity in the agrobotanical traits of velvet
bean observed in the present study could be of interest in a breeding programme. 相似文献

To assess the influence of phenolic acids from plant root exudates on soil pathogens, we studied the effect of sinapic acid
added to chemically defined media on the growth and virulence factors of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum. Sinapic acid inhibited the growth and conidial formation and germination of F. oxysporum f. sp. niveum by 6.7–8.8% and 11.2–37.3%, respectively. Mycotoxin production by F. oxysporum f. sp. niveum was stimulated by 81.6–230.7%. Pectinase, proteinase, cellulase, and amylase activities were stimulated at a lower concentration
of sinapic acid, while they were inhibited at a higher concentration. It is concluded that sinapic acid inhibited the growth
and conidial germination of F. oxysporum f. sp. niveum and decreased the pathogenic enzymes’ activity at higher doses. 相似文献

Iwateyamanashi (Pyrus ussuriensis Maxim. var. aromatica (Nakai et Kikuchi) Rehd.) is one of the Pyrus species grown wild in Japan. The origin of the Japanese pear (P. pyrifolia) is uncertain but it has been suggested that Iwateyamanashi is the possible progenitor of the modern Japanese cultivar. During
the last few decades, the number of Iwateyamanashi trees has been decreasing and therefore, conservation is urgently needed.
After 13 explorations in the northern Tohoku region of Japan, 615 pear trees and 30 local names were recognized mainly in
Iwate Prefecture. The center of the distribution seemed to be somewhere around Mt. Hayachine to the northern area of Kitakami
highlands (from lat. 39 °20′ to 40 °10′N, and from long. 141 °20′ to 141 °50′E). Four morphological characters concerning
fruit shape, measured for 85 trees, showed a wide range of continuous variation. For the skin colour of fruit, 51% of trees
bore russet type fruits, 22% smooth and 27% intermediate ones. Most of the fruits had five loculi but Sanenashi fruits (seedless
pear), one of the old cultivars, had three, and fruits of another two trees had four. More than 80% of trees tended to produce
fruits with a calyx but some trees bore fruits without a calyx. These observations indicate a wide range of genetic diversity
in Pyrus species which is caused, not only by high heterogeneity in Iwateyamanashi itself, but also by the coexistence of Iwateyamanashi,
P. pyrifolia (Burm.) Nakai and hybrid progeny in this area. Already 250 trees have been conserved as genetic resources by grafting at

Two distinct chickpeas of the domestic chickpea, C. arietinum L., exist and are referred to as ‘desi’ or microsperma and ‘kabuli’ or macrosperma. Cicer reticulatum Ladiz. is considered to be the wild progenitor of the domestic chickpea. However, the morphological variation in 18 original
accessions of C. reticulatum is narrower than those of the domestic chickpeas. The aim of the study is to increase the variability in C. reticulatum. In M2 generation, a mutant with white flower color was isolated despite of the fact that the parent has the pink flower. Although
seed coat color of the parent was dark brown, the mutant was cream like ‘kabuli’ chickpea. It is commonly accepted that the
large seeded domestic ‘kabuli’ chickpeas originated from the small seeded ‘desi’ chickpeas, but the induced mutants (white
flower and cream seed coat color) of C. reticulatum may suggest an additional path for the evolution of ‘kabuli’ chickpea. ‘Kabuli’ chickpeas could have originated from spontaneous
mutants of C. reticulatum. In M3 generation, multipinnate leaf, erect growth habit, green seed and double-podded chickpeas were isolated. Among these progenies,
morphologic variability increased and approached domesticated chickpea. Based on historical records and the induced mutants
obtained from this study, the domestic ‘kabuli’ chickpea could have directly emerged from C. reticulatum in ancient Eastern Turkey. 相似文献

Seedlings of 213 accessions representing 9, 14, and 10 Israeli natural populations of the wild Lactuca serriola, L. saligna, and L. aculeata, respectively, were initially screened for their resistance to a pathotype CAVIII isolate of Bremia lactucae. All 60 L. serriola accessions were susceptible while all 83 accessions of L. saligna were resistant. Out of the 69 L. aculeata accessions, 36 (52.2 %) were resistant. From those resistant accessions, 56 L. saligna and 23 L. aculeata accessions were then tested at the seedling stage for their reaction against five highly virulent isolates originating from California and representing the two current major pathotypes and a novel type of B. lactucae; true leaves of adult plants were also tested with two out of these five isolates. Our study supports previous observations that L. saligna is highly resistant to B. lactucae. However, our results provide additional evidence that L. saligna may not be an absolutely non-host plant for B. lactucae at least at a seedling stage, which is in agreement with other recent data for this species. Sixteen (69.6 %) out of the 23 L. aculeata accessions expressed resistance against all isolates tested, even in seedling stage as well as in true leaves of adult plants. This study is probably the first report of detailed screening of resistance to some B. lactucae isolates in natural populations of L. aculeata. These patterns of resistance reactions show that L. aculeata, a species within the primary lettuce gene pool, should be considered as an attractive source of germplasm for resistance breeding of cultivated lettuce (L. sativa). 相似文献

Wild soybean (Glycine soja), the progenitor of soybeans, has become an important germplasm source for soybean breeding. The Chinese G. soja germplasm collection includes two subcollections, one typical wild soybean (G. soja) and the other ‘big seed type’ (semi-wild soybean, G. gracilis). In order to understand the nature of this big seed type subcollection, a considerable number of 1,185 accessions were investigated
focusing on phenotypes, compositional structure and genetic diversity of this subcollection. The results showed that there
were 617 combined morphotypes formed by six major morphological traits. The morphotype number and diversity gradually decreased
among four sections from small to large 100-seed weight sizes. The big seed subcollection accumulated distinctly high frequencies
for white flower, grey pubescence, seed non-bloom and four seed coat colours (green, yellow, brown and black), differing from
the typical G. soja. Between the two subcollections, only the compositional structures of leaf shapes were almost in agreement. A rare strip-shaped
leaf only appeared in typical G. soja and small-seeded grade (100-seed wt) of the big seed type. Seed non-bloom trait showed that the increased frequencies were
concomitant with the augmenting of 100-seed weight. The data suggested that white flower accumulated rapidly in the big seed
type, followed by seed non-bloom, while the slowest rate of accumulation was grey pubecence, and that the ‘large-seeded type
(2.51–3 g 100-seed wt)’ of typical G. soja and the ‘smallest-seeded type (3.01–3.5 g 100-seed wt)’ of the big seed type could have a closer genetic relationship. The
morphotype number and genetic diversity showed reduced values with increased 100-seed weights. The geographical distribution
of genetic diversity indicated two tendencies: decreased from north to south and also from east to west. Our results suggested
that Northeast China was the first centre of morphological diversity for the big seed type, and the North was the secondary

Knowledge of the effects of farmer practices on population genetic parameters of peach palm (Bactris gasipaes Kunth) is relevant to the improvement and conservation of the palm’s genetic resources. Microsatellite markers were used
to assess genetic diversity and population structure of peach palm in swidden-fallow agroforestry systems in northeastern
Peru. The study covered eight communities, comprising two study areas 160 km apart – one occupied by indigenous Amerindians
and the other by mixed race campesinos. Simultaneous analysis of an ex situ peach palm germplasm collection provided a means to compare population genetic parameters. Farmers who were surveyed on seed
selection practices for peach palm reported that an average of only four palms (4.3 for campesino and 1.5 for indigenous populations)
were used to provide seed for the establishment of the forest gardens sampled. As expected, inbreeding coefficients observed
within communities were relatively high (f = 0.105 − 0.210), however, observed heterozygosities within communities were also high (0.625–0.741). A metapopulation approach
was used to describe migration within and among regions, implying a hierarchical structure of gene flow which maintains relatively
high levels of genetic diversity. Seed migration was found to occur over longer distances (≤600 km) and at a higher frequency
(46% of palms sampled) in the indigenous study area, and a proportionally greater number of alleles was found (49 vs. 43 over
three loci) with twice as many private alleles occurring only in the indigenous populations. The farmers’ practice of preserving
remnant palms through successive swidden generations may have contributed to the maintenance of alleles by reducing the severity
of founder effects. Although the campesino study area exhibited a significant (20% of the variation; p < 0.01) isolation-by-distance relationship across 35 km distance, in general, both study populations had relatively limited
genetic structure (θ = 0.012–0.03), which is believed to have resulted from the exchange of seeds over long distances and

Variability studies were carried out among different accessions of Argyrolobium roseum for 12 metric traits under natural and cultivated conditions. Almost all characters showed higher values in cultivated than
natural population. Leaf breadth recorded highest CV (30.59%). Highest percentage of vitexin and D-pinitol (0.208 and 0.773%
dwb) was observed in RAR-7 and RAR-6, respectively, under cultivated conditions. Phenotypic coefficient was higher than genotypic
coefficient of variation. The association analysis revealed that root yield had positive significant correlation with 100
seed weight (r=0.839) biomass yield (r=0.601), where biomass yield had a positive significant correlation with leaf length, single pod weight. High heritability
(97.4–99.8%) coupled with moderate genetic advance ranged between (49–67%) as a percent of mean was observed for leaf breadth,
pod length, total foliage biomass yield and total root yield/plant. This suggests that direct selection for these traits is
suitable for the improvement of this crop. 相似文献

Since autumn-sown faba beans possess several advantages including higher seed yield over the spring cultivars, the study was
aimed to screen and select cold tolerant accessions of faba beans (Vicia faba L.) and compare these to wild species in the highland of the west Mediterranean region, Turkey. A total of 114 accessions
of Vicia species including 109 accessions of faba bean, three accessions of narbon bean (V. narbonensis L.) and two accessions of V. montbretii Fisch. et C.A. Mey. were screened for cold tolerance at seedling stage in two successive years, 2005–2006 and 2006–2007 growth
seasons. Accessions were evaluated for cold tolerance using a 1 (Highly cold tolerant)-5 (Highly cold susceptible) visual
scale. Considerable variation was found for cold tolerance and some agronomical characteristics in faba beans. Wild relatives
of faba bean were found to be more tolerant to cold than those of cultivated faba beans. Although some pigmented accessions
were free from freezing damage at −9.6°C without snow cover, accessions with white flowers were damaged. The proposed screening

Lentil anthracnose (Colletotrichum truncatum (Schwein.) Andrus et W.D. Moore is a potential threat in many lentil (Lens culinaris Medik.) production regions of North America. In the lentil germplasm maintained in Germany and North America, 16 lines were
reported to have resistance to race Ct1, but none has resistance reported to race Ct0. The objective of this study was to
examine accessions of wild Lens species for their resistance to races Ct1 and Ct0 of lentil anthracnose. Five hundred and seventy-four wild accessions of
six species and control lines were screened in two replications under both field and greenhouse conditions using a 1–9 scoring
scale (1, highly resistant; 2–3, resistant; 4–5, moderately resistant; 6–7, susceptible; and 8–9, highly susceptible). Indianhead
and PI 320937 were resistant while Eston and Pardina were susceptible to race Ct1 as expected. However, none of the check
lines were resistant to race Ct0. Among the six Lens wild species tested, accessions of Lens ervoides (Brign.) Grande had the highest level of resistance, 3–5 to race Ct1 and Ct0 followed by L. lamottei Czefr. in the field and greenhouse. Lens orientalis (Boiss.), L. odemensis L., L. nigricans (M. Bieb.) Godron and L. tomentosus L. were highly susceptible, 8–9 to race Ct0 in the greenhouse. The highest frequency of resistance, especially in L. ervoides (Brign.) Grande, was found in accessions originating from Syria and Turkey. The usefulness of these L. ervoides (Brign.) Grande accessions as sources of resistance to the more virulent race of anthracnose in a lentil breeding program
