Hatchery-reared Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., were vaccinated intraperitoneally (i.p.) with a live attenuated Cryptobia salmositica vaccine (either 100 000 or 5000 parasites fish−1) and 4 weeks later were challenged with the parasite (either 100 000 or 5000 parasites fish−1). Unvaccinated, infected salmon had high parasitaemias and were anaemic. Fish given a high dose (100 000 parasites fish−1) had higher parasitaemias than fish given the lower dose. Vaccinated fish had low parasitaemias and a mild anaemia, but recovered quickly after challenge. Complement-fixing antibody increased in vaccinated fish after challenge and was highest at 2 weeks post-challenge. The cell-mediated response (both T cells and B cells) was depressed in infected fish until 4 weeks after infection. In vaccinated fish, the humoral response (i.e. B-lymphocytes) was greater than the cell-mediated response (i.e. T-lymphocytes). In contrast, infected fish had a greater cell-mediated than humoral immune response.  相似文献

Five iso-nitrogenous (300 g kg−1 diet) purified diets with graded level of lipid at 40 (D-1), 60 (D-2), 80 (D-3), 100 (D-4) and 120 (D-5) g kg−1 diet were fed to Puntius gonionotus fingerlings for 90 days to determine their dietary lipid requirement. Two hundred and twenty-five fingerlings (average weight 2.34 ± 0.03 g) were equally distributed in five treatments in triplicate groups with 15 fish per replicate. Fifteen flow-through cement tanks of 100 L capacity with a flow rate of 0.5 L min−1 were used for rearing the fish. Specific growth rate (SGR), feed conversion ratio (FCR), nutrient digestibility, retention, digestive enzyme activity, RNA : DNA ratio and whole-body composition were considered as the response parameters with respect to dietary lipid levels. Maximum SGR and minimum FCR with highest RNA : DNA ratio, whole-body protein content and digestive enzyme activity was found in D-3 group fed with 80 g kg−1 diet lipid. Nutrient digestibility was similar in all the groups irrespective of the dietary lipid level. Maximum protein and energy retention was recorded at 80 g kg−1 dietary lipid fed group. However, from the second-order polynomial regression analysis, the maximum growth of P. gonionotus fingerlings was found at 96.9 g lipid kg−1 diet.  相似文献

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of dietary Chlorella powder (C) supplementation on growth performance, blood characteristics, and whole-body composition in juvenile Japanese flounder Paralichthys olivaceus . Four experimental diets were supplemented with C at 0, 1, 2 and 4% (C0, C1, C2, and C4) on a dry-weight basis. Three replicate groups of fish averaging 1.13 ± 0.02 g (Mean ± SD) were randomly distributed in each aquarium and fed one of four experimental diets for 12 wk. After 12 wk of the feeding trial, fish fed C2 diet had higher weight gain (WG), feed efficiency (FE), and protein efficiency ratio (PER) than did fish fed C0 and C1 diets ( P 0.05); however, there was no significant difference among fish fed C1 and C4 diets, and among fish fed C2 and C4 diets ( P > 0.05). Fish fed C2 and C4 diets had a lower serum cholesterol level than did fish fed C0 and C1 diets ( P 0.05). Fish fed C2 and C4 diets had a lower body fat than did fish fed C0 ( P 0.05). These results indicate that dietary supplementation of 2% Chlorella powder in the commercial diets could improve growth, feed utilization, serum cholesterol level, and whole-body fat contents in juvenile Japanese flounder.  相似文献

Ethoxyquin (EQ) has been used as an antioxidant in livestock, aquaculture and pet foods. Animal food safety law has established the upper limit of EQ in animal feed at 150 mg kg−1. However, the risk of EQ at the approved level for aquaculture feed (150 mg kg−1) to fish health is unknown. Here, we examine the effect of EQ on the immunity of tilapia ( Oreochromis niloticus ). EQ concentration in the blood reached 0.16 mg L−1 in fish fed EQ at the approved level. This level of EQ inhibited phagocytic activity of leucocytes in vitro and antibacterial activity of whole blood in vivo . Furthermore, pyknosis in the liver was observed throughout the duration of feeding. However, after 30 days of experimental challenge with feed containing 150 mg kg−1 of EQ, no significant difference was observed in mortality. Although EQ at the approved level in feed causes immunosuppression in fish, the severity of immunosuppression does not lead to a lowering of disease resistance for short feeding periods.  相似文献

Abstract. The infectivity of the bacterial fish pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida to Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., in sea water was investigated and found to be similar to that reported for fresh water. The minimal infective dose in short duration bath exposures (1–3 days) was 104 colony-forming units (cfu) per ml, while prolonged exposure for three weeks, but not for 1 week, produced infection with 102 cfu/ml. Intragastric intubation of A. salmonicida established infection with doses of >105 cfu. Release of bacteria from dead or morbid infected fish was monitored and found to be in the order of 105–108 cfu/fish/h. These results emphasize the importance of removing dead fish from farm sites.  相似文献

A 14-week feeding trial was conducted to determine the effects of dietary organic acids. The experimental diets were added with 0, 1, 2 or 3 g kg−1 of a novel organic acid blend or with 2 g kg−1 of potassium diformate and fed to triplicate groups of red hybrid tilapia ( Oreochromis sp.). Upon completion, tilapia were challenged by immersion with Streptococcus agalactiae . There was no significant difference ( P >0.05) in the growth, feed utilization and nutrient digestibility among treatment groups despite a trend towards improved results with fish fed organic acid-supplemented diets. Diet pH decreased, causing a reduction in the digesta pH of the stomach and gut. Total bacteria per gram of faeces were significantly ( P <0.05) reduced from 1.81 × 108 colony-forming units (CFU) (control group) up to 0.67 × 108 CFU in the fish fed organic acid diets. A similar trend was observed for adherent gut bacteria. Cumulative mortality of fish fed no organic acids was higher compared with fish fed organic acid-supplemented diets at 16 days post challenge. The data showed that dietary organic acids can exert strong anti-microbial effects and have the potential to exert beneficial effects on growth, nutrient utilization and disease resistance in tilapia.  相似文献

This investigation examined the effect of prey condition on the growth and survival of juvenile cuttlefish ( Sepia officinalis ). In the first group, cuttlefish were fed with daily captured live Palaeomonetes varians from the wild [daily prey (DP)], the second group was fed 5 days stocked and starved P. varians [starved prey (SP)], while in the third group, cuttlefish were fed 8 days stocked P. varians fed with an artificial diet [fed prey (FP)]. Mean instantaneous growth rate (IGR) was 2.8±1% body weight day−1 (bw day−1), 3.3±1.1% bw day−1 and 4.9±0.5% bw day−1 for SP, DP and FP respectively. At the end of the experiment, final weight gain ( W g) was 121±21.6%, 153.8±17.3% and 295±29.8% for SP, DP and FP respectively. No significant differences were found ( P >0.05) between growth curves for every group tested, or for the food conversions between those same groups ( P >0.05), but statistical differences ( P <0.05) were found in IGR between DP vs. FP and SP vs. FP. Mortality was 2 and 1 for SP and DP respectively. Results indicate that prey starvation should not be considered when feeding juvenile cuttlefish, as prey can only be stocked if proper artificial diets are provided, to obtain optimal growth.  相似文献

Five iso-nitrogenous (300 g crude protein kg−1 diet) semi-purified diets with graded levels of carbohydrate at 220 (D-1), 260 (D-2), 300 (D-3), 340 (D-4) and 380 (D-5) g kg−1 diet were fed ad libitum to Puntius gonionotus fingerlings (average weight 0.59±0.01 g) in triplicate groups (20 fish replicate−1) for a period of 90 days to determine the effect of the dietary carbohydrate level on the growth, nutrient utilization, digestibility, gut enzyme activity and whole-body composition of fish. Fifteen flow-through cement tanks of 100 L capacity with a flow rate of 0.5 L min−1 were used for rearing the fish. The maximum weight gain, specific growth rate, protein efficiency ratio, RNA:DNA ratio, whole-body protein content, protease activity, protein and energy digestibility and minimum feed conversion ratio (FCR) were found in the D-2 group fed with 260 g carbohydrate kg−1 diet. The highest protein and energy retention was also recorded in the same group. However, from the second-order polynomial regression analysis, the maximum growth and nutrient utilization of P. gonionotus fingerlings was 291.3–298.3 g carbohydrate kg−1 diet at a dietary protein level of 300 g kg−1 with a protein/energy (P/E) ratio of 20.58 −20.75 g protein MJ−1.  相似文献

Two trials were conducted to determine the effects of dietary enrichments with the microalga Parietochloris incisa , rich in arachidonic acid (ARA), on stress resistance in guppies Poecilia reticulata . The microalga was added to commercial diets as a neutral lipid (NL) extract and its fractions or as broken cells. Experimental diets were applied for a period of 14 days. In trial 1, commercial diets were supplemented with NL (containing 25 mg ARA and 0.11 mg β-carotene g−1 feed), its triacylglycerol (TAG) fraction (containing 25 mg ARA g−1 feed and no β-carotene) and the β-carotene fraction (containing 0.11 mg carotenoid g−1 feed and minute amounts of ARA). Neutral lipid-fed fish demonstrated the highest resistance ( P <0.05) to osmotic stress (32-ppt NaCl), followed by fish fed with diets supplemented with TAG and β-carotene alone, which were more resistant than control ( P <0.05). In trial 2, fish fed diets supplemented with higher levels of broken alga (26.1 mg ARA g−1 feed) were more resistant ( P <0.05) to stress as compared with fish fed lower ARA (16.3 mg g g−1) or an unsupplemented control diet. We suggest a dietary supplementation with broken P. incisa cells to enhance stress resistance in guppies before a stressful event.  相似文献

Dietary phosphorus requirement of juvenile Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L.   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
The objective of this study was to determine the dietary phosphorus (P) requirement of juvenile Atlantic salmon, Salmon salar L. Triplicate groups of fish (mean initial weight 1.4 g) were fed semipurified, casein-gelatine-based diets containing one of five levels of P (4, 8, 10, 15 and 25 g kg−1) from Ca(H2PO4)2·H2O, or a commercial feed (17 g kg−1 P) for 9 weeks. Weight gains did not differ significantly among treatment groups fed the experimental diets but were slightly less than gains in fish fed the commercial feed. Feed efficiency (wet weight gain/dry feed consumed) was similar in all groups, averaging 1.45. Availability of dietary P, estimated from apparent retention and apparent digestibility, was 86%. Whole-body P concentrations declined in fish fed diets containing less than 10 g kg−1 P. Fitting a logistic curve to dietary P vs. whole-body P concentrations indicated that a minimum of 11 g kg−1 dietary P (9 g kg−1 digestible P) was required by juvenile Atlantic salmon to maintain whole-body P concentrations at initial levels. Calculation of a dietary requirement using a simple factorial model which incorporated measurements of P availability, feed efficiency and normal whole-body P concentration indicated that the dietary requirement was approximately 10 g kg−1. The dietary requirement established in this study (10–11 g kg−1) is higher than previously reported for Atlantic salmon or other fishes. Possible reasons for the wide range of reported dietary P requirements in fishes are discussed.  相似文献

ABSTRACT:   In order to investigate the relationships between levels of lipid peroxides (LPO), hydroxy lipids (L-OH) and of antioxidative enzymes in live fish, cultured cells from tilapia liver (Hepa-T1) were treated with oxidative stressors, 2,2'-azobios(2-amidino-propane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) and H2O2. By treating with 5 mM AAPH, LPO and L-OH of the cells significantly increased time-dependently. In particular, L-OH increased from 7.6 ± 0.7 to 23.6 ± 1.8 nmol/mg protein after 2 h of treatment, and synchronously the glutathione peroxidase (GPx) activity of the cells increased from 259 ± 106 to 1970 ± 135 mU/mg protein. In the case of H2O2, however, no elevation of L-OH was observed. In this case, catalase (CAT) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) activities increased time-dependently. Especially, after 2 h exposure, the CAT activity increased remarkably from 217 ± 21 to 2510 ± 120 mU/mg protein, though the GPx activity did not change significantly. These results suggest that the elevation of the L-OH level is closely associated with the elevation of GPx activity, but not with that of CAT or SOD. However, when vitamin E-enriched Hepa-T1 cells were treated with AAPH and H2O2, the production of LPO and L-OH was suppressed significantly. The findings suggest that vitamin E also plays an important role in the levels of the oxidation products in vivo .  相似文献

Four diets (T0–T3) were formulated reducing the fishmeal (Indian) component by 100 g kg–1 from 300 to 0 g kg–1 and including proportionately increasing quantities of maize. Diets were fed for 120 days at 50 g kg–1 body weight to triplicate groups of common carp (av. wt. 2.11–2.18 g) stocked at 1 m–2 in mud bottomed cement tanks (18 m2), fertilized with poultry manure. Fish growth, SGR and FCR in the different treatments were statistically not significantly different ( P  > 0.05). PER was lowest for the 300 g fishmeal kg–1 diet treatment (diet T0), increasing with decrease in dietary fishmeal content (diets T1–T3). Fish survival ranged from 96.29 to 100%. Diets influenced carcass composition and digestive enzyme activity. A significant increase in lipid deposition was recorded with increasing dietary carbohydrate content. Amylase, protease and lipase activities were higher in fish fed with diets T2 and T3. The protein sparing effect of dietary carbohydrate and the economic implication of eliminating fishmeal from the diet are discussed.  相似文献

This study examined the effect of potential probiotic bacteria on growth and survival of the tilapia Oreochromis niloticus , under high density and suboptimum temperature. Presumptive Bacillus and lactic acid bacteria (LAB) were isolated from tilapia and from their culture system and were characterized for haemolytic and enzymatic activity, and antagonism against Vibrio . Selected strains were included in the diet of juvenile tilapia and evaluated during a 134-day assay. The experiment was conducted with four treatments: (1) fish fed with commercial feed plus Dry Oil®; (2) fish fed with commercial feed plus LAB; (3) fish with bacilli in water; (4) fish with a mixture of treatments 2 and 3. Tilapias in all treatments, including bacteria, grew significantly better than fish fed with commercial feed plus Dry Oil® (control group). Survival was similar in all treatments. The physicochemical parameters of the culture system were maintained within the optimal ranges for the species, with the exception of temperature (19.9–24.82 °C). Animals fed diet supplemented with bacilli and LAB had good survival and the best growth performance, suggesting that bacteria are appropriate growth-stimulating additives in tilapia cultivation.  相似文献

Six isonitrogenous [450 g kg−1 crude protein (CP)] and isoenergetic diets (23 kJ g−1) with six levels of defatted soybean meal inclusion (0, 132, 263, 395, 526 and 658 g kg−1) in substitution of fish meal were evaluated in gilthead sea bream of 242 g initial weight for 134 days. Fish fed diets S0, S13, S26 and S39 had a similar live weight (422, 422, 438 and 422 g, respectively) but fish fed diets S53 and S66 obtained the lowest final weight (385 and 333g, respectively), and similar results were presented in specific growth rate (SGR). Fish fed diets S53 and S66 also obtained the highest feed conversion ratio (FCR). Quadratic multiple regression equations were developed for SGR and FCR which were closely related to dietary soybean level. The optimum dietary soybean levels were 205 g kg−1 for maximum SGR and 10 g kg−1 for minimum FCR. Sensorial differences were appreciated by judges between fish fed S0 and S39 soybean level, but after a re-feeding period of 28 days with diet S0, these differences disappeared.  相似文献

Non-faecal phosphorus (P) was determined for large yellowtail to estimate a minimum available P requirement (Experiment  1) and to justify inorganic P supplementation in a fish meal-based diet (Experiment 2). In Experiment 1, purified diets with incremental P concentrations were fed to yellowtail (mean weight 917 g) at a feeding rate of 1.5% of body weight. The peaks of non-faecal P excretion appeared 5–6 h after feeding in fish fed more than 4.5 g available P kg−1 dry diet. Broken-line analysis indicated that the minimum available P requirement was 4.4 g kg−1 dry diet. In Experiment 2, a purified diet (PR) containing 6.5 g available P kg−1 and a fish meal-based diet with (F1) and without (F0) additional phosphorus were fed to yellowtail (mean weight 1.1 kg) at 1.5% (PR) and 2% (F0 and F1) feeding rates respectively. There was no significant difference in P excretion between fish fed the F0 (5.5 g soluble P kg−1 dry diet) and the PR diet. However, significantly higher (34.5%) amounts of non-faecal P excretions (7.4 g soluble P kg−1 dry diet) were found in fish fed F1 compared with the F0 diet. This suggested that there was an excess of dietary P in the F1 diet and that supplementation is not needed in fish meal-based diets for large yellowtail.  相似文献

Juvenile yellow perch Perca flavescens were fed semipurified diets with varying protein to metabolizable energy ratios (PME, g protein MJ−1 metabolizable energy) and nutrient densities in three experiments to determine recommended dietary protein and energy concentrations. Experiment 1 fish (18.6 g) were fed diets containing 450 g crude protein kg−1 dry diet and 14.5–18.8 MJ ME kg−1 dry diet for 10 weeks. No differences were found in the growth of experiment 1 fish fed the different diets. Experiment 2 fish (21.9 g) were fed diets containing 15.7 MJ ME kg−1 dry diet and 210–420 g crude protein kg−1 dry diet for 8 weeks. Fish fed the diet containing 340 g kg−1 protein (diet PME = 22) exhibited the greatest weight gain. Experiment 3 fish (27.1 g) were fed diets with a PME of 22 and varying nutrient density (yielding 205–380 g crude protein kg−1 dry diet) for 8 weeks. No differences were found in the growth of experiment 3 fish. Yellow perch fed the semipurified diets exhibited increased liver fat content, liver size and degree of liver discoloration compared with fish fed a commercial fish meal-based diet. Liver changes may have resulted from high dietary carbohydrate levels. We conclude that a protein level of 210–270 g kg−1 dry diet is suitable for juvenile yellow perch provided that the dietary amino acid profile and carbohydrate content are appropriate for yellow perch.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the effects of feeding increasing lipid concentrations (310, 380 and 470 g kg–1 lipid on dry weight) in diets based mainly on herring byproducts to Atlantic salmon Salmo salar . The diets were isonitrogenous, varying in dietary lipid content at the expense dietary starch. Average fish weight increased from 1.2 kg in April to 2.2–2.7 kg at the end of the feeding trial in September. Significantly greater growth was found in fish fed either the 380 g kg−1 or the 470 g kg−1 lipid diets compared with the 310 g kg−1 lipid diet. Muscle lipid content increased in all dietary groups on a wet weight basis from 7.7 ± 1.4% to 12 ± 3% in salmon fed the 310 g kg−1 lipid diet, and to 16 ± 2% in salmon fed the 380 g kg−1 and 470 g kg−1 lipid diets. In fish of similar weight there was a positive correlation between dietary lipid and muscle lipid concentrations. Low concentrations of muscle glycogen were detected in fish fed each of the diets, while muscle vitamin E concentrations slowly decreased as muscle lipid increased. Muscle fatty acid composition reflected dietary fatty acid profiles, containing similar percentages of total saturated, monoenic and n-3 fatty acids (20:5n-3 and 22:6n-3) in fish from all dietary treatment groups. However, a higher ratio of n-3/n-6 was found in muscle from fish fed the 470 g kg−1 lipid diet compared with the other two groups. Blood chemistry values varied somewhat, but all values were within normal ranges for Atlantic salmon of these sizes.  相似文献

Abstract. Parr of Atlantic salmon, Salmo salar L., were fed semi-purified diets supplemented with 60 mg astaxanthin kg−1 and without astaxanthin supplementation for 10.5 months. The astaxanthin concentration in the non-supplemented diet was analysed to be 6–0 mg kg−1 The growth of the fish was significantly affected by the dietary treatment. The mean daily weight gain in the groups fed the supplemented diets was 0.39% throughout the period, whereas the groups fed the non-supplemented diet had a mean daily weight gain of 0.18%. The dry matter and fat content were significantly higher in fish fed the supplemented diet. The astaxanthin concentration in the muscle of fish fed the astaxanthin-supplemented diet was 2–7 mg kg−1 versus 0–3 mg kg−1 in the non-supplemented fish. Antioxidant vitamins in the muscle (retinol, α-tocopherol) and liver (retinol, α-tocopherol and ascorbic acid) were two to 20 times higher in the fish in the supplemented group, suggesting antioxidant sparing effects. Blood haemoglobin and immunological parameters tended to be higher in fish fed the low astaxanthin diet although the difference was not significant. However, the resistance to challenge with Aeromonas salmonicida was higher in fish fed the astaxanthin supplemented diet. This may be due to a difference in weight at the time of the challenge which, in turn, may have influenced the body composition and smoltification of the fish. A relationship between dietary astaxanthin concentration and antioxidant status in both liver and muscle was observed, and this may also have had an influence on the observed differences in blood parameters and disease resistance.  相似文献

To investigate potential use of dietary β-1,3-glucan for health management of hybrid striped bass, juvenile fish were fed diets supplemented with yeast glucan (MacroGuard®) at 0.05%, 0.1% or 0.2% of diet for 4 weeks, followed by immune response assays and a bath challenge with Streptococcus iniae . Dietary glucan significantly ( P <0.05) enhanced neutrophil oxidative radical production, and fish fed 0.1% glucan had a significant ( P <0.05) reduction in mortality (10%) after bacterial challenge compared with fish fed the control diet (46.7%). However, accumulative mortality of fish fed 0.2% glucan was not significantly different from that of fish fed the control diet. To further elucidate this observation, macrophages from sub-adult hybrid striped bass were isolated and cultured in L-15 medium with 10% foetal calf serum and penicillin/streptomycin supplemented with 0.2, 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 20 and 100 μg soluble glucan (MacroGuard®) mL−1 for 24 and 48 h. Intracellular superoxide anion production was significantly ( P <0.001) increased by 0.5 μg glucan mL−1, but significantly ( P <0.001) suppressed by doses >5 μg glucan mL−1. It is concluded that dietary yeast glucan has potential for use in diet formulations of hybrid striped bass to limit the adverse effects of S. iniae , but dosage should be an important consideration in administration.  相似文献

We studied the effect of genistein, a weak estrogenic compound found in soybean products, on the growth and reproductive development of yellow perch Perca flavescens . Four diets were prepared: control, estradiol-17β (E2) at 10 μg/g diet (E10), and genistein at 7.5 and 0.75 mg/g diet (G7.5 and G0.75). Fish (initial weight = 13–15.5 g and initial total length = 105–111 mm) were fed to excess for 63 d. The E10 diet promoted weight gain in yellow perch of both sexes, whereas the G7.5 diet decreased weight gain in females. The growth of the G0.75 group was not different from either the E10 group or the control group. Among females, fish fed the E10 diet had the lowest plasma concentration of E2 36 h after the last feeding of the study. The plasma concentration of E2 did not differ among the males from the four treatments. The E10-treated fish of both sexes had increased plasma concentration of alkali-labile phosphoprotein phosphorous (ALPP) in both sexes, indicating that vitellogenesis had been induced. Neither genistein diet increased plasma (ALPP) concentration. Male but not female yellow perch fed the E10 diet had significantly lower gonadosomatic indices compared to control and genistein groups. These results suggest that genistein may have a positive effect on growth in yellow perch, but no apparent estrogenic effects on reproductive function.  相似文献
