A 25-year-old female chimpanzee with disseminated tuberculosis also had two uterine tumors. One a typical leiomyoma and the other, which occluded the uterine lumen, was composed of cells resembling normal endometrial stroma in its proliferative phase. It was diagnosed as an endometrial stromal tumor and was similar to that which occurs in the human female. This is the first report of this lesion in a nonhuman primate.  相似文献

Three juvenile captive spectacled caimans (Caiman sclerops) had scattered, gray-white, circular, 1- to 3-mm skin lesions. In one caiman, the lesions were particularly prominent on the phalanges, palpebrae, and integument overlying the maxillae and mandible. Digital biopsy revealed large eosinophilic intracytoplasmic inclusions within epithelial cells. Transmission electron microscopy of lesions from the lower jaw revealed viral particles morphologically similar to poxvirus.  相似文献

A cat was presented with skin lesions consisting of slightly raised pigmented plaques, 2-7 mm in diameter with a rough slightly verrucous surface. Histologically these lesions were identified as papillomas. A papillomavirus infection was demonstrated: virus-like particles were present in the nuclei of cells within the lesions, and staining with an anti-bovine papillomavirus (BPV-1) antibody was obtained. An infection with feline immunodeficiency virus was diagnosed in this cat; this condition had probably enhanced the development of papillomas. This is the first report of a papillomavirus infection in a cat in Europe.  相似文献

Mites are frequent agents of skin diseases in veterinary dermatology, particularly in rodents. The authors report an original case of infestation in two guinea pigs of the same household. Two adult guinea pigs were presented with a 3-month history of alopecia, matted hair, erythema, scales and mild pruritus. The first guinea pig showed almost complete truncal alopecia with mild scaling, whereas the other one had only recently developed mild alopecia of the abdomen and mild pruritus. Numerous live, long-legged mites were present both in adhesive tape and skin scrapings. Mycology (Wood's lamp and DTM agar culture) was negative. Histopathological examination of a skin biopsy did not reveal any significant inflammatory disease and morphological changes were limited to hair follicles in the telogen phase. Mites were identified as hypopodes of Acarus farris ( Acaridae ), but no adult stages were present. Hypopodes were also found in the hay. Control was obtained with acaricidal treatment with Phoxim 0.05% once weekly for 4 weeks, and the elimination of contaminated hay. The lesions and the alopecia resolved rapidly. Hypopodes are additional nymphal stages of some mites of the suborder Astigmata . They develop for dispersing or dormancy under disadvantageous conditions. They can be active or inert, and some can be phoretic on the skin surface or intrafollicular. Although nonparasitic, they may cause dermatitis. Acarus farris have been rarely mentioned in the literature as a cause of dermatitis. This condition could be underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed in veterinary dermatology.

Routine examination of a 12-week-old Labrador Retriever revealed circular scaly lesions, with alopecia, on the lateral aspect of the left carpus and left upper eyelid. The geophilic fungus Microsporum vanbreuseghemii was isolated from the lesions. Topical treatment with chlorhexidine ointment resulted in resolution, with hair regrowth.  相似文献

A canine case of Coombs' test positive and antinuclear antibody-negative hemolytic anemia was examined because of the development of skin lesions after 18 months treatment with prednisolone. Histopathological examination of biopsy specimens obtained from skin and oral mucosa revealed the acantholysis, edematous lesions of the stratum basale and mononuclear cell accumulation in the dermis. Deposits of immunoglobulin G and complement factor 3 were detected at the intercellular and dermoepidermal junction by the direct immunofluorescent test. From these results, the case was considered to be an autoimmune disease caused by distinct antibodies against different organs.  相似文献

The paper reports a bronchial foreign body with unusual clinical signs in a chimpanzee. The illness lasted some months and was manifested by malaise, reduced appetite, loss in body weight and a spontaneous abortion. Routine auscultation and radiography could not be performed initially because of the size and disposition of the animal but chest radiography was later carried out under general anaesthesia and revealed a foreign body which was extracted through a bronchoscope from the right main bronchus. Methods of anaesthesia suitable for bronchoscopy are discussed but the Venturi technique using a jet air injector seems to be the method of choice.  相似文献
