Current research is intended to develop cost-effective, plant-based diets for intensive production of Florida pompano (Trachinotus carolinus). Three growth trials were conducted with juvenile pompano over a 106- to 115-day period. The trials evaluated the systematic substitution on an equal protein basis of (1) menhaden fish meal, FM with soy protein concentrate (SPC), and (2) solvent extracted soybean meal (SBM) with SPC. This confirmed the reduction of FM and evaluated the possible nutrient restrictions of methionine (M) and phosphorus (P) in low FM, high SPC diets. There was no significant reduction in growth parameters when FM was reduced from 300 to 150 g/kg. There was a significant improvement in fish performance with increased SPC concentrations substituted for SBM in diets containing 150 g/kg of FM. All growth parameters indicated a favorable response for inclusion of SPC up to 240 g/kg. The addition of P and M did not significantly improve growth.  相似文献

Alternative protein feedstuffs are potential surrogates for fish meal in the diet of Florida pompano. This study was designed to evaluate the replacement of fish meal with meat and bone meal in a soybean meal‐based diet for Florida pompano. In Trial I (10 wk), the basal diet (FM15, formulated to contain 40% crude protein and 10% lipid) containing 15% fish meal was modified by the isonitrogenous replacement of fish meal with meat and bone meal producing diets with 10 (FM10), 5 (FM05), and 0% (FM0) fish meal. In Trial II (8 wk), the FM0 served as the basal diet (Tau 0) and was modified by the additive supplementation of taurine to produce three test diets containing 0.25 (Tau 0.25), 0.5 (Tau 0.50), and 0.75% (Tau 0.75) taurine. In Trial I, reduced weight gain (220.1%), feed efficiency (0.31), and survival (84.5%) were observed in fish fed the FM0 diet (P < 0.05). In Trial II, the supplementation of taurine improved the growth performance, survival, and protein and energy retention efficiencies of Florida pompano (P < 0.05). These results indicate that the supplementation of taurine was required in these feed formulations and that meat and bone meal is a good alternative ingredient for fish meal in soybean meal‐based diets for Florida pompano.  相似文献

Abstract

Fish meal has been the most common animal protein source used to feed fish, even though it is fairly expensive and seasonally available. The objective of this work was to investigate co-dried fish silage as an alternative animal protein source for diets of pacu, Piaractus mesopotamicus. The diets did not differ significantly (P >0.05) with respect to average weight gain, ration consumption, apparent feed conversion, protein efficiency and specific growth rates. However, apparent protein digestibility and protein productive values were significantly different (P <0.01). Diets containing fish silage, co-dried with agricultural by-products (soybean meal or broken rice), showed better results than the control diet, which contained fish meal as the only animal protein source. The results showed that alternative ingredients can be used effectively to replace fish meal in pacu diets. Co-dried silages are economically and environmentally advantageous, since they use residues generated in the farm.  相似文献

Two 8‐week growth trials were conducted with juvenile Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus fed 0–1000 g kg?1 replacement of fish meal (FM) protein with soybean meal (SBM) or soy protein isolate (SPI). Practical‐type diets were formulated with at least 360 g kg?1 digestible protein and 24 mg kJ?1 digestible protein/digestible energy. Weight gain and efficiency were not different between 0 and 800 g kg?1 FM protein replacement with SBM. Regression of weight gain and protein productive value suggested a conservative level of SBM substitution was 380 g kg?1 FM protein. It appeared that lysine could be limiting beyond 400 g kg?1 FM replacement. No significant differences were detected in fish fed 0 and 200 g kg?1 FM protein replacement with SPI. A decrease in weight gain and efficiency parameters occurred at 400 g kg?1 protein replacement, and fish fed a replacement of 600 g kg?1 or greater with SPI exhibited signs of starvation. A third trial indicated intake and growth were significantly reduced (P < 0.0001) in fish fed 600 g kg?1 relative to 0 g kg?1 FM protein replacement with SPI. Poor palatability of diets containing 400 g kg?1 or more FM protein replacement with SPI appeared to be the causative factor for poor performance.

The objective of this work was to evaluate the effect of a dietary amino acid imbalance, originating from the use of a soy protein concentrate (SPC) as the major protein source, on the growth performance and amino acid metabolism of Senegalese sole (Solea senegalensis) postlarvae. Senegalese sole (85.6±24.6 mg wet weight) were fed one of two experimental diets: one based on fish meal (FM) and another based on SPC. Diets were isonitrogenous (around 56% crude protein) and isoenergetic. Diet acceptability was very good and the growth rate was 6.9% day?1 for sole eating the FM diet and 6.0% day?1 for sole eating the SPC diet. Mass‐specific ammonia excretion and the activities of selected amino acid metabolic enzymes (ALAT, ASAT and GDH) did not present significant differences between treatments, although this may have been due to the high variability found for these parameters in the SPC treatment. This variability may suggest different capacities of individual fish to adapt to the possible methionine dietary deficiency. The utilization of amino acids as a substrate for lipogenesis does not seem to be affected by the dietary protein source, since NAPDH‐generating enzymes (G6PD and ME) had similar activities in both treatments. Amino acid metabolism in Senegalese sole postlarvae seems to be slightly affected by the dietary protein source. Nevertheless, the changes induced by the SPC diet do not seem to impair growth, at least at the high dietary protein level used in this experiment.  相似文献

Two experiments were conducted with Florida pompano, Trachinotus carolinus L. at 3 and 28 g L?1 salinity to determine apparent crude protein digestibility (ACPD), energy digestibility (AED) and amino acid availability (AAAA) from soybean meal (SBM), soy protein isolate (SPI) and corn gluten meal (CGM). Mean AAAA was similar to ACPD. In fish adapted to 3 g L?1 salinity, they were 81.2% and 81.9% (CGM), 93.6% and 92.2% (SBM), 93.8% and 93.1% (SPI) for AAAA and ACPD respectively. In fish adapted to 28 g L?1, they were 84.5% and 83.4% (CGM), 86.5% and 87.1% (SBM), and 83.4% and 85.0% (SPI) for AAAA and ACPD respectively. The AED was highest for SPI and lowest for SBM and inversely related to carbohydrate. The ACPD, AED and AAAA of soy products appeared to be lower in high salinity, whereas CGM was unaffected. The data suggest that SBM, SPI and CGM should be further evaluated as partial fishmeal replacements in Florida pompano diets. Application of the generated coefficients can be used to develop well‐balanced, low‐cost diets for Florida pompano reared in low salinity or seawater.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the potential of a compound protein source (CPS) as a replacement of fish meal (FM) in diets for large yellow croaker, Pseudosciaena crocea R. The CPS was made of soybean meal, meat and bone meal, peanut meal, and rapeseed meal (4:3:2:1 in weight) by adding crystalline l ‐methionine (0.77%), l ‐lysine (0.95%), and l ‐isoleucine (0.44%) to ensure the essential amino acid (EAA) contents of CPS diets to reach or exceed those of FM diet. Six isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets (Diets 1–6) were formulated to contain 0, 9, 18, 27, 36, and 45% CPS replacing 0, 13, 26, 39, 52, and 65% FM protein, respectively. Triplicate groups of 180 fish (initial average 1.88 ± 0.01 g) were fed diets to apparent satiation by hand twice daily for 8 wk in floating sea cages (1.0 × 1.0 × 1.5 m). The water temperature ranged from 26.5 to 29.5 C, the salinity from 25 to 28‰, and the dissolved oxygen content was approximately 7 mg/L during the experimental period. The results showed that specific growth rate (SGR) and feed efficiency ratio (FER) of fish fed Diets 2 and 3 were not significantly different from those of fish fed control diet (Diet 1). However, SGR and FER of fish fed Diets 4–6 were significantly lower compared with control group (P < 0.05). The whole‐body proximate analysis showed that protein significantly decreased with increasing dietary CPS levels (P < 0.05), while the whole‐body lipid, ash, and moisture showed no significant differences among dietary treatments. Methionine, cystine, and lysine contents of the whole body were significantly influenced by dietary CPS level (P < 0.05), while other EAA contents showed no significant differences. Results of the present study indicated that CPS could replace about 26% FM protein in diets for the large yellow croaker on crude protein basis without adverse effect on growth.  相似文献

A growth trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of a mixture of soybean meal and Chlorella meal (SCM) as a dietary fishmeal (FM) substitute on growth performance, apparent digestibility coefficients (ADCs), digestive enzymatic activities, and histology of juvenile crucian carp, Carassius auratus. Five isonitrogenous and isoenergetic diets were formulated to replace 0 (SCM0), 25 (SCM25), 50 (SCM50), 75 (SCM75), and 100% (SCM100) of protein from FM with SCM, respectively. The diets were fed to triplicate groups of juvenile crucian carp for 6 wk. Weight gain, specific growth rate, feed intake, protein efficiency ratio, and intestinal digestive enzymatic activities (amylase, trypsin, and lipase) tended to decline with increasing FM replacement levels (P > 0.05). Dietary SCM substitution significantly influenced dry matter content in muscle, and crude protein and lipid contents in liver (P < 0.05). ADCs for dry matter, protein, lipid, energy, and most amino acids showed no significant differences between the control and SCM25 group, but tended to decline with replacement levels over 25%. Higher SCM substitution (50–100%) caused karyopyknosis and necrosis in liver, but intestinal histology did not show noticeable pathological changes. The present study indicated that FM could be replaced by 25% of SCM, without significant adverse growth performance, feed utilization, and histology of crucian carp.  相似文献

Five experimental diets (PPC1, PPC2, PPC3, PPC4 and PPC5) containing about 465 g kg−1 crude protein were formulated to contain graded levels of potato protein concentrate (PPC) (a by-product of potato starch manufacturing) by replacement of fish meal protein. The contents of PPC were 0, 94, 200, 304 and 510 g kg−1 respectively. The diets were prepared isonitrogenously and isocalorically. A 6-week growth trial was conducted with rainbow trout, Oncorhynchus mykiss (Walbaum), at about 14°C to evaluate the potential use of the potato protein concentrate in trout diets.
The results showed that fish fed diets containing PPC showed decreased growth, feed utilization and condition factor, and increased mortality when PPC constituted the sole protein source. Incorporation of PPC in the diets resulted in decreased dry matter, protein and fat and increased ash contents of the fish body. In conclusion, the type of potato protein concentrate used, especially at high levels, was not suitable as an ingredient in trout feed.  相似文献

An 8‐week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of fish‐meal replacement on growth performance, antioxidative ability, immune capacity and haemolymph metabolites of Litopenaeus vannamei. A 250 g/kg fish‐meal diet was used as control (Diet 1). Other two diets contained 100 g/kg fishmeal, Diet 2 was supplemented with three indispensable amino acids, and Diet 3 was supplemented with microbalance components and phytase. Weight gain was lower in shrimp fed the Diet 2 than shrimp fed the Diet 1. Feed efficiency, protein efficiency ratio and survival were higher in shrimp fed the Diet 1 than other groups. Glutathione and nitric oxide contents in haemolymph were decreased in shrimp fed the Diet 2, and nitric oxide synthetase, phenoloxidase, acid phosphatase and myeloperoxidase activities showed the similar tendency. In hepatopancreas, antioxidative ability and immune capacity also lower in shrimp fed the Diet 2. In haemolymph, 21 differential metabolites were identified, and 13 metabolism pathways were affected by different diets. Generally, the fishmeal inclusion level could be reduced from 250 g/kg to 100 g/kg without affecting the growth performance of L. vannamei, and meanwhile, the protein utilization efficiency and antioxidative ability of shrimp fed the low fishmeal diets should be more focused on in future studies.  相似文献

A 10‐wk feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the potential use of fermented fisheries by‐products and soybean curd residues mixture (FFSM) as a partial replacement for fish meal (FM) in the diet of juvenile olive flounder, Paralichthys olivaceus. Five experimental diets were formulated with FFSM replacing 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60% of the FM protein (FFSM0, FFSM15, FFSM30, FFSM45, and FFSM60, respectively). Juvenile olive flounder averaging 5.99 ± 0.08 g (mean ± SD) were randomly distributed into aquaria at 15 fish/aquarium, with three replicate aquaria for each experimental diet. Weight gain (WG) of fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, and FFSM30 was significantly higher than that of fish fed FFSM45 and FFSM60 (P < 0.05). Also, WG of fish fed FFSM45 was significantly higher than that of fish fed FFSM60 (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in WG among fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, and FFSM30 (P > 0.05). Specific growth rate (SGR) of fish fed FFSM15 was significantly higher than that of fish fed FFSM45 and FFSM60 (P < 0.05). Also, SGR of fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, FFSM30, and FFSM45 was significantly higher than that of fish fed FFSM60 (P < 0.05). There were no significant differences in SGR among fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, and FFSM30 and among those fed FFSM0, FFSM30, and FFSM45 (P > 0.05). Feed efficiency (FE) and protein efficiency ratio (PER) of fish fed FFSM60 were significantly lower than those of fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, FFSM30, and FFSM45 (P < 0.05); however, there were no significant differences in FE and PER among fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, FFSM30, and FFSM45. Hepatosomatic index of fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, and FFSM30 was significantly higher than that of fish fed FFSM60 (P < 0.05); however, there were no significant differences among fish fed FFSM0, FFSM15, FFSM30, and FFSM45 and among those fed FFSM45 and FFSM60. No significant differences were observed in condition factor and survival rate among all dietary groups tested. The whole‐body proximate composition averaged 75.0 (% dry matter basis [DM]), 8.66 (% DM), 16.38 (% DM), and 76.1%, for crude protein, crude lipid, ash, and moisture, respectively. Based on growth performance, the FFSM could replace up to 30% FM protein by the ANOVA test; however, broken‐line model analysis indicated 28.7% as an optimum replacement level in juvenile olive flounder diets.  相似文献

The study was designed to investigate the influence of fermented soybean meal (FSBM) on the growth and feed utilization of juvenile Chinese sucker, Myxocyprinus asiaticus. Seven isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were formulated with 0%, 15%, 25%, 35%, 45%, 55% or 65% replacement of fish meal with FSBM on a protein basis. Each diet was fed to three replicate groups of fish with an initial weight 4.59 ± 0.2 g for 8 weeks. Weight gain (WG) and specific growth rate (SGR) was significantly lower when FSBM inclusion was 391 g kg?1 or greater, replacing more than 45% fish meal protein. A significant negative relationship was observed between growth response and the level of fish meal protein replacement with FSBM. Methionine and Lysine content decreased as FSBM inclusion levels increased, consequently compromising growth performance. Feed intake (FI) were unaffected by dietary FSBM levels. The feed conversion ratio (FCR) of fish fed D‐0, D‐15, D‐25 and D‐35 diets was significantly lower than those fed other diets. The protein efficiency ratio (PER) was highest at the lowest FSBM inclusion level. Experimental diets D‐0, D‐15, D‐25 and D‐35 had apparent dry matter digestibility ranging from 71.2% to 72.6% and apparent protein digestibility (ADPs) from 89.1% to 90.1%, while the diets with higher FSBM inclusion (D‐45 to D‐65) had a significantly lower apparent dry matter digestibility range (69.7–70.3%) and ADPs range (88.5–88.9%). It is concluded that FSBM is an acceptable alternative plant protein source that can replace up to 35% of fish meal protein in diets without significant adverse effects on growth, survival, FCR, PER and body composition.  相似文献

Two growth trials were conducted to evaluate and confirm the efficacy of a porcine meal (PM) with high protein content (>90%) as an alternative feed ingredient in commercial‐type feed formulation for Pacific white shrimp, Litopenaeus vannamei. Six experimental diets were formulated for the two growth trials. The first five diets contained increasing levels (0, 1, 2, 4, and 6%) of PM as a replacement for soybean meal in a plant‐based diet with low inclusion level (6%) of fish meal (FM). The last experimental diet was produced utilizing 4.2% PM to completely replace FM. In Trial 1, shrimp (1.5 g initial mean weight, 20 shrimp/tank, n = 4) were offered test diets for 6 wk in a semirecirculation system. At the end of Trial 1, shrimp fed with the diet containing 6% PM exhibited significantly enhanced weight gain (WG), feed conversion ratio (FCR), and survival compared to those fed with the diet devoid of FM. As survival was poor across all treatments and different densities could mask growth results the trial was repeated. In Trial 2, shrimp (0.85 g, 15 shrimp/tank, n = 4) were offered diets for 6 wk. Dietary supplementation of PM at 6% significantly improved WG, FCR, and apparent net protein retention in contrast with the treatment devoid of FM, confirming the same trends in Trial 1. No significant difference was detected in protein, lipid, moisture, and mineral profiles of whole‐body shrimp as well as survival across all the treatments. Results of this study indicate that PM is a good high protein source in shrimp feeds, which can be included up to 6% in the low FM‐based diet without compromising the growth of shrimp.  相似文献

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the potential of replacing fishmeal with poultry byproduct meal (PBM) and soybean meal in diets for largemouth bass, Micropterus salmoides. A reference diet (C) contained 400 g/kg fishmeal, and 40 or 60% of the fishmeal was replaced with a blend of pet‐food‐grade PBM and soybean meal (diets PP1 and PP2) or a blend of feed‐grade PBM and soybean meal (diets PF1 and PF2). No significant differences were found in weight gain, nitrogen retention efficiency (NRE), condition factor, and body composition among fish fed diets PP1, PP2, PF1, and PF2. Feed intake and feed conversion ratio (FCR) were higher in fish fed diet PF1 than in fish fed diet PP1. No significant differences were found in weight gain, NRE, condition factor, and body composition between fish fed diet C and diets PP1, PP2, PF1, and PF2. The feed intake and FCR were lower in fish fed diet C than in fish fed diets PP2, PF1, and PF2. This study reveals that dietary fishmeal level for largemouth bass could be reduced to 160 g/kg by inclusion of PBM and soybean meal in combination.  相似文献

Barley protein concentrate (BPC) was tested as a protein source in the diets of Atlantic salmon post‐smolts. Fish were fed one of four experimental diets consisting of a fish meal/soya protein concentrate control (CT) along with two feeds supplemented with increasing levels of BPC replacing the more costly SPC. A fourth diet partially replaced FM in the high BPC diet with a liquid fish protein concentrate (FPC) made from fish trimmings. No significant differences were observed in terms of growth at the end of the 12‐week feeding period, although the protein efficiency ratio (g gain g?1 protein consumed) was significantly lower for the control compared to fish fed diets containing either BPC only or FPC and BPC. This suggests that diets containing BPC had a beneficial effect when compared to the control diet. Furthermore, the lack of any detriment to fish growth in diets containing BPC suggests there are no significant issues regarding any negative effects of potential antinutritional factors which can otherwise be the case with other plant origin products. The data presented in this study indicate that BPC and FPC are products which could be of benefit to salmon culture, and related species, in providing a valuable new raw material to the industry.  相似文献

The main objective of this work was to investigate the effects of bacterial community and free amino acids on the content of biogenic amines in Yu-lu during fermentation. Four major biogenic amines (histamine, tyramine, cadaverine, and putrescine) were identified, and the content of tyramine was positively correlated with histamine (R value = 0.9113). Aspartic acid, glutamic acid, histidine, leucine, and lysine were the dominant free amino acids. 16S rRNA sequencing showed that the composition of the bacterial community changed significantly during fermentation of Yu-lu. Principal component analysis revealed the crucial links between microbial community and biogenic amines. For example, Halanaerobium was probably associated with the formation of putrescine, while Halomonas might be associated with the degradation of biogenic amines at the end of fermentation of Yu-lu. This study provided a detailed evaluation of the Yu-lu fermentation process, enabling development of better strategies for biogenic amine control in fish sauce.  相似文献

Two insect meal (IM) products were tested as ingredient in diets for Atlantic salmon weighing ~250 g. The modern control diet contained 200 g kg?1 fish meal (FM100), which was stepwise replaced by insect meal A (IM A) as a 25% (A25), 50% (A50) or 100% (A100) FM replacement or insect meal B (IM B) as a 25% (B25) or 100% (B100) FM replacement. Selected nutrient parameters and contaminants were measured in the diets. After 15 weeks, fish length and weight were recorded and visceral and hepatic indices calculated. Fatty acid and amino acid digestibility was calculated. Morphology of the liver, kidney, mid‐ and hind intestine was evaluated. Finally, a sensory testing of the fillets was conducted. A25, A50 and A100 performed equally well as the FM100 diet. The feed intake decreased moderately with increasing IM A inclusion; however, food conversion ratio decreased, resulting in an equal net growth of the fish. Histology did not show any differences between any of the dietary groups, and sensory testing of fillets from FM100, A100 and B25 did not reveal any significant differences in odour, flavour/taste or texture between groups. IM A was suitable to replace up to 100% of dietary FM, whilst IM B did not perform equally well.  相似文献
