Cuttings of black willow (Salix nigra), a naturally occurring wetland species, are used for restoration and streambank stabilization. As an adaptation to their wetland habitat, this species develops aerenchyma tissue to avoid root anoxia. To determine the effects of combined copper and ultraviolet-B radiation exposure on aerenchyma tissue (measured as root porosity), black willow cuttings were grown hydroponically and exposed to three ultraviolet-B (UV-B) intensities and three Cu concentrations in a completely randomized 3?×?3 factorial design. While both UV-B (F 2,42?=?11.45; p?=?0.0001) and Cu (F 2,42?=?6.14; p?=?0.0046) exposure increased root porosity, total biomass decreased in response to both UV-B (F 2,43?=?3.36; p?=?0.0441) and to Cu (F 2,43?=?4.03; p?=?0.0249). Root biomass decreased only in response to Cu (F 2,41?=?3.41; p?=?0.0427) resulting in a decrease in the root/shoot ratio (F 2,42?=?3.5; p?=?0.0393). Copper exposure also resulted in a decrease in the number of leaves/shoot (F 2,42?=?7.03; P?=?0.0023). No UV-B and Cu interaction was found. While the present research indicates the negative effects of Cu contamination and elevated UV-B intensities on S. nigra, it also points out potential mechanisms that S. nigra uses to alleviate these stresses.  相似文献

This study was conducted to assess the hyperaccumulation and phytoremediation potential of copper (Cu) and lead (Pb) in Hardy ‘Limelight’ Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata) and the common sunflower (Helianthus annuus). The study also investigated the capacity of these two plants to transpire the metals in a temperature-controlled greenhouse. Plants were grown for 4 weeks and periodically watered with known elemental concentrations of copper oxide nanoparticles, copper sulfate, and lead nitrate. Both H. annuus and H. paniculata accumulated significant amounts of Cu and Pb to be classified as hyperaccumulator species. H. annuus took up significant amounts of Cu in the shoots, specifically the leaves (Cu max.?=?1368 ppm), and easily translocated it from stem to leaf (translocation factor (TF) ranged from 2.7 to 81.0). Pb was not as easily taken up and translocated (TF?=?0.6) as Cu was by this species. H. paniculata took up Cu and Pb in high concentrations but preferentially stored more metals in the stems (Cu max.?=?1757 ppm; Pb max.?=?780 ppm) than in the leaves (Cu max.?=?126 ppm; Pb max.?=?35 ppm). The translocation ability of H. paniculata was much lower for both metals compared to H. annuus. Both Cu and Pb transpired from H. annuus at concentrations of 0.04 and 0.005 ppm, respectively.  相似文献

Purpose

The present study was carried out in Roro region, Chaibasa, Jharkhand, India, to assess the impact of chromite–asbestos mine waste (CMW) on a nearby agroecosystem. The role of metal-accumulating grass–legume association in facilitating phytoremediation was investigated.

Materials and methods

Soil and plant samples were collected from (i) chromite–asbestos mine waste (CMW) with Cynodon dactylon, Sorghastrum nutans, and Acacia concinna; (ii) contaminated agricultural soil-1 (CAS1) from a foothill with Cajanus cajan; (iii) contaminated agricultural soil-2 (CAS2) distantly located from the hill, cultivated with Oryza sativa and Zea mays; and (iv) unpolluted control soil (CS). Total metal concentrations were quantified in both soils and plants by digesting the samples using HNO3, HF, HClO4 (5:1:1; v/v/v), and HNO3 and HClO4 (5:1; v/v), respectively, and analyzed under flame atomic absorption spectrophotometry. Metal grouping and site grouping cluster analysis was executed to group the metals and sampling sites. Translocation factor (TF) and bioconcentration factor (BCF) were calculated to determine the phytoremediation efficiency of grasses and legumes.

Results and discussion

Results indicate that total metal concentrations in the CMW were in the order of Cr?>?Ni?>?Mn?>?Cu?>?Pb?>?Co?>?Zn?>?Cd. High concentrations of Cr (1983 mg kg?1) and Ni (1293 mg kg?1) with a very strong contamination factor were found in the CAS, which exceeds the soil threshold limits. Further, metal and site grouping cluster analysis also revealed that Cr and Ni were closely linked with each other and the CMW was the main source of contamination. Among all the metals, Cr and Ni were mainly accumulated in grasses (C. dactylon and S. nutans) and legumes (A. concinna and C. cajan) as compared to cereals (Z. mays and O. sativa). The TF of Cr was >1 for grasses. Except for Zn, the BCF for all the metals were <1 in roots and shoots of all the plants and cereals.

Conclusions

The present study revealed that abandoned CMW is the source of contamination for agriculture lands. Phytoremediation relies on suitable plants with metal-scavenging properties. Grass–legume cover (C. dactylon, S. nutans, A. concinna, and C. cajan) has the ability to accumulate metals and act as a potential barrier for metal transport, which facilitate the phytoremediation of the CMW. Possibilities for enhancing the barrier function of the grass–legume cover need to be explored with other low-cost agronomic amendments and the role of rhizospheric organisms.

Filamentous mat-forming algae are increasingly impairing freshwater resources. To restore water utility, reactive management programs often involve application of copper-based algaecides. Copper algaecide formulations can differ significantly, and this research outlined an advanced approach to evaluate formulation efficiency for controlling filamentous algae. Two common algal species (Lyngbya wollei, Pithophora varia) were used to assess copper internalization and adsorption as well as relation to control among copper formulations. Captain® XTR achieved control (7-day EC85) of L. wollei with internal copper concentrations of 0.78 and 0.76 mg Cu/g based on chlorophyll a content or filament viability, respectively. Cutrine® Ultra achieved control of L. wollei based on filament viability only at 0.85 mg Cu/g. Internalized copper concentrations required for control following Captain XTR exposures were similar for P. varia, 0.81 and 0.95 mg Cu/g, whereas Cutrine Ultra and copper sulfate did not elicit control nor attain the critical internal copper threshold. The relationship between internalized copper and responses, among all formulations, was significant (P?<?0.0001) with R2 values of 0.920 and 0.935 for L. wollei and 0.807 and 0.826 for P. varia based on filament viability and chlorophyll a content, respectively. Formulation efficiency, internalized copper versus total amended, was greatest with Captain XTR (average 0.17), followed by Cutrine Ultra (0.13), and copper sulfate (0.09). By measuring the efficiency of a specific algaecide and the corresponding amount required to achieve control of targeted algal biomass, management objectives can be achieved while decreasing environmental loads of copper, number of treatments, and operational costs.  相似文献

Purpose

This study investigated the extent of metal accumulation by plants colonizing a mining area in Yazd Province in Central Iran. It also investigated the suitability of these plants for phytoextraction and phytostabilization as two potential phytoremediation strategies.

Materials and methods

Plants with a high bioconcentration factor (BCF) and low translocation factor (TF) have the potential for phytostabilization, whereas plants with both BCFs and TFs >1 may be appropriate for phytoextraction. In this study, both shoots and roots of 40 plant species and associated soil samples were collected and analyzed for total concentrations of trace elements (Pb, Zn, and Ag). BCFs and TFs were calculated for each element.

Results and discussion

Nonnea persica, Achillea wilhelmsii, Erodium cicutarium, and Mentha longifolia were found to be the most suitable species for phytostabilization of Pb and Zn. Colchicum schimperi, Londesia eriantha, Lallemantia royleana, Bromus tectorum, Hordeum glaucum, and Thuspeinantha persica are the most promising species for element phytoextraction in sites slightly enriched by Ag. Ferula assa-foetida is the most suitable species for phytostabilization of the three studied metals. C. schimperi, L. eriantha, L. royleana, B. tectorum, M. longifolia, and T. persica accumulated Ag, albeit at low level.

Conclusions

Our preliminary study shows that some native plant species growing on this contaminated site may have potential for phytoremediation.

Purpose

The dynamics and uncertainties in wetland methane budgets affected by the introduction of Alnus trabeculosa H. necessitate research on production of methane by methanogenic archaea and consumption by methane-oxidizing microorganisms simultaneously.

Materials and methods

This study investigated methane emission in situ by the closed chamber method, and methanogenic and methanotrophic communities using denatured gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE) and quantitative PCR based on mcrA (methyl coenzyme M reductase), pmoA (particulate methane monooxygenase) genes in the rhizosphere and non-rhizosphere soils in the indigenous pure Phragmites australis T., and A. trabeculosaP. australis mixed communities in Chongxi wetland.

Results and discussion

Methane flux rate from the pure P. australis community was 2.4 times larger than that of A. trabeculosaP. australis mixed community in the rhizosphere and 1.7 times larger in the non-rhizosphere, respectively. The abundance of methanogens was lower in the mixed community soils (3.56?×?103–6.90?×?103 copies g?1 dry soil) compared with the P. australis community (1.47?×?104–1.89?×?104 copies g?1 dry soil), whereas the methanotrophs showed an opposite trend (2.08?×?106–1.39?×?106 copies g?1 dry soil for P. australis and 6.20?×?106–1.99?×?106 copies g?1 dry soil for mixed community soil). A liner relationship between methane emission rates against pmoA/mcrA ratios (R 2?=?0.5818, p?<?0.05, n?=?15) was observed. The community structures of the methane-cycling microorganism based on mcrA and pmoA suggested that acetoclastic methanogens belonging to Methanosarcinaceae and a particular type II methanotroph, Methylocystis, were dominant in these two plant communities.

Conclusions

The introduction of A. trabeculosa would promote the proliferation of methanotrophs, especially the dominant Methylocystis, but not methanogens, ultimately diminishing methane emission in the wetland.

Maize (Zea mays L.) and Asian rice (Oryza sativa L.), two most important cereals for human nutrition, have undergone strong artificial selection during a long period of time. Currently, a number of genes with stronger signals of selection have been identified through combining genomic and population genetic approach, but research on artificial selection of maize and Asian rice is scarcely done from the perspective of phenotypic difference of a number of agronomic traits. In this study, such an investigation was carried out on the basis of 179 published studies about phenotypic quantitative trait locus (QTL) mapping of Zea and Oryza species via QTL sign test. At the overall level, the proportions of antagonistic QTLs of Zea and Oryza species were 0.2446 and 0.2382 respectively, deviating significantly from neutrality. It indicated that these two genera have undergone similar selection strength during their evolutionary process. A previous study showed that 4 traits undergoing the directional selection during domestication were identified in Asian rice via QTL sign test, and 16 individual traits in Asian rice and 38 ones in maize that newly detected in this study deviated significantly from neutrality as well, demonstrating the dominant influence of artificial selection on them. Moreover, analysis of different categories of cross type including O. sativa × Oryza rufipogon (perennial and annual forms) crosses, maize × teosinte (Zea mays subsp. parviglumis) crosses, O. sativa × O. sativa crosses, and maize × maize crosses showed that their proportions of antagonistic QTLs were 0.1869, 0.1467, 0.2649, and 0.2618 respectively. These results revealed that selection strength of domestication is significantly stronger than that of modern genetic improvement. However, interestingly, the proportion of antagonistic QTLs (0.1591) in maize × maize with long-term selection was very similar to that (0.1467) in the maize × teosinte (Zea mays subsp. parviglumis) crosses. It suggested that some favorable traits could be cultivated within a few decades if we carry out strong selection. In addition, the proportions of antagonistic QTLs of the widely cultivated hybrids of rice (Minghui 63 × Zhenshan 97) and maize (Zheng 58 × Chang 7-2) in China were 0.309 and 0.3472 respectively. It suggested that selection during modern genetic improvement has significantly acted on them.  相似文献

A field experiment investigating the phytoremediation potential of six plant species—Goosegrass (Eleusine indica), Bermuda grass (Cynodon dactylon), Sessile joyweed (Alternanthera sessilis), Benghal dayflower (Commelina benghalensis), Lovanga (Cleome ciliata), and Chinese violet (Asystasia gangetica)—on soil contaminated with fuel oil (82.5 ml/kg of soil) have been conducted from March to August 2016. The experiments consider three modalities—Tn: unpolluted planted soils, To: unplanted polluted soils, and Tp: polluted planted soil—randomized arranged. Only three (E. indica, C. dactylon, and A. sessilis) of the six species survived while the others died 1 month after the beginning of experimentations. The relative growth indexes showed a strong similarity between the growth parameters of E. indica and C. dactylon, each on polluted and control soils, unlike A. sessilis. Total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPHs) removal efficiency were 82.56, 80.69, and 77% on soil planted with E. indica, C. dactylon, and A. sessilis, respectively; and 57.25% on non-planted soil. According to the bioconcentration and translocation factors, E. indica and A. sessilis are involved on rhizodegradation and phytoextraction of hydrocarbons whereas C. dactylon is only involved into rhizodegradation. Overall, E. indica and C. dactylon out-yielded A. sessilis in the phytoremediation capacity of fuel oil-contaminated soils.  相似文献

Two species of Pb-adapted shrubs, Alyssum montanum and Daphne jasminea, were evaluated in vitro for their tolerance to elevated concentrations of cadmium. Shoot cultures were treated with 0.5, 2.5, and 5.0 μM CdCl2 for 16 weeks and analyzed for their organogenic response, biomass accretion, pigment content, and macronutrient status. Cadmium accumulation and its root-to-shoot translocation were also determined. In both species, rooted microplantlets, suitable for acclimatization, were obtained in the presence of Cd applied as selection agent. In A. montanum, low and moderate dose of Cd stimulated multiplication, rooting, and biomass production. Growth tolerance index (GTI) in Cd-treated shoots ranged from 120 to 215%, while in the roots 51–202%. In turn, in Cd-treated D. jasminea proliferation and rooting were inhibited, and GTI for shoots decreased with increasing doses of Cd. However, roots exposed to Cd had higher biomass accretion. Both species accumulated Cd in developed organs, and its content increased with increasing CdCl2 dose. Interestingly, D. jasminea accumulated higher amounts of Cd in the roots than A. montanum and immobilized this metal in the root system. On the contrary, A. montanum translocated some part of accumulated Cd to the shoots, but with low efficiency. In the presence of Cd, A. montanum maintained macronutrient homeostasis and synthesized higher amounts of phytosynthetic pigments in the shoots. D. jasminea accumulated root biomass, immobilized Cd, and restricted its translocation at the expense of nutrient balance. Considering remediation potential, A. montanum could be exploited in phytoextraction, while D. jasminea in phytostabilization of polluted substrate.  相似文献

A hybrid between Erianthus arundinaceus (Retz.) Jeswiet and Saccharum spontaneum L. which are wild related species of sugarcane (Saccharum L., Family Poaceae), was repeatedly crossed as female parent with sugarcane commercial varieties to develop near commercial sugarcane clones. The cytoplasm type of the hybrid derivatives were confirmed to be of E. arundinaceus through the mitochondrial and chloroplast DNA polymorphism of nad 4/3-4 intron segment and psbC–trnS segment, respectively. The E. arundinaceus × S. spontaneum hybrid with somatic chromosome number 2n = 62 was confirmed to have 30 chromosomes from E. arundinaceus through genomic in situ hybridization (GISH). The (E. arundinaceus × S. spontaneum) × sugarcane hybrid (2n = 118) had 24 chromosomes from E. arundinaceus whereas its next generation hybrid with sugarcane (2n = 108) had only 12 Erianthus chromosomes. The commercial sugarcane hybrid Co 15015, which is the third generation hybrid with 2n = 106 was confirmed to have two E. arundinaceus chromosomes through GISH. It is the first report of sugarcane with both alien cytoplasm and chromosome contributions from E. arundinaceus.  相似文献

Plants of the Pilocarpus genus (Rutaceae) are popularly known as jaborandi and are the only source of pilocarpine, an imidazole alkaloid used in eye-drops for the treatment of glaucoma as well as for the stimulation of sweat and lachrymal glands. Alkaloid extracts from leaf samples of seven species of Pilocarpus, from the states of São Paulo and Maranhão in Brazil, were analyzed using HPLC–ESI–MS/MS. The samples contained between 0.88 ± 0.04 and 1.00 ± 0.14% of alkaloids in relation to the dry weight of their leaves, with significant differences in results (P ≤ 0.05) found only between Pilocarpus microphyllus planted in the state of Maranhão and Pilocarpus spicatus, Pilocarpus trachyllophus, Pilocarpus pennatifolius and Pilocarpus jaborandi; as well as between Pilocarpus spicatus and Pilocarpus racemosus. Pilocarpine was not found in P. spicatus, whereas in the other species it ranged from 2.6 ± 0.1 to 70.8 ± 1.2% of total alkaloids. P. microphyllus planted in the state of Maranhão for pilocarpine extraction had the highest total alkaloid content, but it had only 35% of pilocarpine in relation to total alkaloids. Three other species contained more pilocarpine in relation to total alkaloids: P. jaborandi (70.8%), P. racemosus (45.6%) and P. trachyllophus (38.7%); and could be candidates for pilocarpine extraction. Differences in alkaloid content were significant for all these samples (P ≤ 0.05). Imidazole alkaloids were observed and partially characterized based on their retention times and high resolution mass. The seven species analyzed had different imidazole alkaloid profiles, but only one did not present quantifiable pilocarpine contents in its leaves. The Pilocarpus genus shows potential for the prospection of novel alkaloids.  相似文献

Purpose

The present paper concerns the distribution and mobility of heavy metals (Cu, Pb, Zn and Fe) in the soils of some abandoned mine sites in Italy and their transfer to wild flora.

Materials and methods

Soils and plants were sampled from mixed sulphide mine dumps in different parts of Italy, and the concentrations of heavy metals were determined.

Results and discussion

The phytoremediation ability of Salix species (Salix eleagnos, Salix purpurea and Salix caprea), Taraxacum officinale and P?lantago major for heavy metals and, in particular, zinc was estimated. The results showed that soils affected by mining activities presented total Zn, Cu, Pb and Fe concentrations above the internationally recommended permissible limits. A highly significant correlation occurred between metal concentrations in soils.

Conclusions

The obtained results confirmed the environmental effects of mine waste; exploring wild flora ability to absorb metals, besides metal exploitation, proved a useful tool for planning possible remediation projects.

A perennial version of grain sorghum [S. bicolor (L.) Moench] would create opportunities for greatly reducing tillage and preventing soil degradation. Efforts to select for perenniality and grain production among progeny of hybrids between S. bicolor (2n = 20) and the weedy tetraploid perennial S. halepense (L.) Pers. (2n = 40) are complicated in that F1 hybrids produced by diploid × tetraploid sorghum crosses are usually tetraploid. In 2013, a set of random pollinations between 19 diploid cytoplasmic male-sterile inbred lines and 43 tetraploid perennial plants produced 165 F1 hybrid plants, more than 75% of which had highly atypical plant, panicle, and seed phenotypes. Phenotypic segregation in F2 populations derived from atypical hybrids was also anomalous. Examination of mitotic metaphase cells in F1 or F2 root tips revealed that 129 of the 165 hybrids were diploid. Parentage of the diploid progenies was confirmed using simple-sequence repeat analysis. The mechanism by which diploid hybrids arise from diploid × tetraploid crosses is unknown, but it may involve either production of monohaploid (n = 10) pollen by the tetraploid parent or chromosome elimination during early cell divisions following formation of the triploid zygote. The ability to produce diploid germplasm segregating for S. bicolor and S. halepense alleles could have great utility, both for the development of perennial sorghum and for the improvement of conventional grain sorghum.  相似文献

Penguins can bioaccumulate metals, a portion of which can be deposited in the environment through organic remains such as excrement, carcasses, and eggshells. In order to determine Cu and Pb concentrations and their relationship to soil, organic matter and grain size were determined in 27 samples collected in zones without penguins, penguin transit zones, and Adelie (Pygoscelis adeliae), Chinstrap (P. antarctica), and Gentoo penguin (P. papua) colonies on the Ardley Peninsula, Maritime Antarctica. An atomic absorption spectrophotometry analysis was carried out, organic matter was determined by loss on ignition, and grain size was measured with a laser diffraction particle size analyzer. The principal component analysis shows a relationship between the variables Cu, Pb, and grain size and areas with penguin presence. Cu concentrations in soils varied among areas (χ2, 15.707; p =?0.0004), with higher concentrations in transit zones and penguin colonies (142.63 and 140.79 mg/kg, respectively) than in zones without penguins (83.33 mg/kg). Pb concentrations in soils also varied among areas (χ2, 6.5029; p =?0.0387), and were higher in transit zones (5.92 mg/kg) than in the penguin colonies (4.45 mg/kg). Grain size differed significantly among areas (χ2, 13.506; p =?0.0012), with higher values in transit zones (avg. 37.38 μm) than in penguin colonies (avg. 26.93 μm) and zones without penguins (avg. 20.72 μm). Organic matter did not differ significantly among the studied zones (χ2, 2.0882; p =?0.3520). There is a positive correlation between Cu-Pb (Rho, 0.5532; p =?0.0028), Cu-grain size (Rho, 0.4756; p =?0.0130) and Pb-grain size (Rho, 0.4879; p =?0.0098). The presence of penguins increases Cu concentrations in Antarctic soils due to its bioaccumulation and elimination through excrement; however, the presence of penguins has a minor influence on Pb concentration in soil, probably because this metal is stored efficiently in bones, feathers, and eggshells.  相似文献

Triploid onion, Allium × cornutum Clementi ex Visiani, 1842 (2n = 3x = 24), a vegetatively reproduced garden crop, possess a complex triparental genome organization with three putative parental species, A. cepa L., A. pskemense B. Fedtsch., and A. roylei Stearn. Two of its most studied clones are the Croatian ‘Ljutika’ and the Indian ‘Pran’, which are genetically highly similar. Earlier studies have shown that ‘Pran’ possesses some molecular markers in the chloroplast DNA (cpDNA) identical to those of the unique male-sterile (S) cytoplasm, used for onion breeding. To find out whether ‘Ljutika’ also possesses a S-type of cytoplasm, we analyzed several cpDNA and mitochondrial (mtDNA) molecular markers. The PCR amplification and RFLP analysis of the chloroplast genes accD, atpF, petB and the mitochondrial gene cob, as well as the sequence analysis of the chloroplast matK and atpB-rbcL regions showed that ‘Ljutika’ possesses the male-sterile S-type of cytoplasm. The phylogenetic analysis of the matK and atpB-rbcL sequences of A. × cornutum, its parental species and other Allium species of the section Cepa showed that none of the analyzed species had the identical type of cpDNA as A. × cornutum. Results also suggested that A. pskemense can be excluded as a donor of the S-cytoplasm and a female parent, whereas cpDNA of A. roylei, although not identical to S-cytoplasm, possessed many polymorphisms of S-type. Fluorescent in situ hybridization, using fluorescently labelled parental genomic DNAs as probes in combination with fluorescently labelled 5S and 35S rDNAs enabled simultaneous visualization of the three genomes during meiosis and confirmed their homeologus intergenomic pairing.  相似文献

Dihydrochalcones, beneficial phenolic compounds, are abundant in Malus Mill. species, particularly in vegetative tissues and seeds. Phloridzin (phloretin 2′-O-glucoside) is the primary dihydrochalcone in most Malus species including cultivated apple, Malus?×?domestica Borkh. A few species contain sieboldin (3-hydroxyphloretin 4′-O-glucoside) or trilobatin (phloretin 4′-O-glucoside) in place of phloridzin, and interspecific hybrids may contain combinations of phloridzin, sieboldin, and trilobatin. Proposed health benefits of phloridzin include anti-cancer, antioxidant, and anti-diabetic properties, suggesting the potential to breed apples for nutritional improvement. Sieboldin and trilobatin are being investigated for nutritional value and unique chemical properties. Although some of the biosynthetic steps of dihydrochalcones are known, little is known about the extent of variation within Malus germplasm. This research explores the genetic diversity of leaf dihydrochalcone content and composition in Malus germplasm. Dihydrochalcone content was measured using high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) from leaf samples of 377 accessions, representing 50 species and interspecific hybrids from the USDA-Agricultural Research Service (ARS) National Plant Germplasm System Malus collection. Within the accessions sampled, 284 accessions contained phloridzin as the primary dihydrochalcone, one had only trilobatin, two had phloridzin and trilobatin, 36 had sieboldin and trilobatin, and 54 had all three. Leaf phloridzin content ranged from 17.3 to 113.7 mg/g with a heritability of 0.76 across all accessions. Beyond the potential of dihydrochalcones for breeding purposes, dihydrochalcone composition may be indicative of hybridization or species misclassification.  相似文献

Although dilution of lake water has been used for improvement of water quality and algal blooms control, it has not necessarily succeeded to suppress the blooms. We hypothesized that the disappearance of algal blooms by dilution could be explained by flow regime, nutrient concentrations, and their interaction. This study investigated the effects of daily renewal rate (d), nitrogen (N) and phosphorus (P) concentration, and their interaction on the domination between Microcystis aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. through a monoxenic culture experiment. The simulation model as functions of the N:P mass ratio and dilution rate (D) (calculated from d) was constructed, and the dominant characteristics of both species were predicted based on the model using parameters obtained in a monoculture experiment and our previous study. Results of monoxenic culture experiment revealed that M. aeruginosa dominated in all conditions (d = 5 or 15%; N = 1.0 or 2.5 or 5.0 mg-N L?1; P = 0.1 or 0.5 mg-P L?1) and the predicted cell densities were substantially correspondent to experimental data. Under various N:P ratios and D values, characteristics of domination for each species were predicted, indicating that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant under high P concentrations (P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1) when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1). It was also suggested that the dilution rate leading to the Cyclotella sp. domination required 0.20 day?1 or higher regardless of the N:P ratios.
Graphical Abstract ? M. aeruginosa and Cyclotella sp. could be a superior competitor in nutrient-limited and nutrient-rich conditions, respectively. ? The simulation model in this study indicated that the predicted cell density and nutrient concentration were substantially correspondent to experimental data. ? The model predicted that Cyclotella sp. tended to be dominant at the P ≥ 0.36 mg-P L?1 when the N:P ratio was less than 7.0, and M. aeruginosa could not form algal blooms at the N:P ratio ≤ 7.0 (N ≤ 0.7 mg-N L?1).

Phytoremediation is a cost-effective and environmentally friendly technology using plants for the cleanup of both inorganic and organic contaminated sites. In this study, a pot culture experiment has been conducted for 180 days in a greenhouse to examine the capability of Koelreuteria paniculata on pyrene (Pyr) dissipation in contaminated soil. Three treatments were employed and they were: (1) polluted soil with K. paniculata fine roots addition (T1), (2) polluted soil with planted seedlings (T2), and (3) polluted soil (C). Results showed Pyr concentration in soils was reduced by 21.4, 36.2, and 86.4% by natural losses, fine roots addition, and planted K. paniculata treatments, respectively, meaning plants substantially enhanced the dissipation of Pyr from soil. Cultivated K. paniculata seedlings significantly increased soil total nitrogen (TN), total organic carbon, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), and microbial biomass carbon, but not total phosphorus, when compared to the control. The removal efficiency of Pyr was lower in the adding of fine roots treatment than in the planted K. paniculata treatment. The principal component analysis indicated the promotional dissipation of Pyr in soil by planted K. paniculata was likely attributed to increased microbial quantity and activity, DOC, and TN content in the rhizosphere. Our results suggest that K. paniculata is a suitable plant species used in phytoremediation for Pyr-contaminated soils and the efficiency on the dissipation of Pyr is considerably enhanced using living plants than adding dead organic matters. The study provided a reference for the application of K. paniculata in the remediation of Pyr-contaminated soil.  相似文献

Iran is amongst the countries in the world widely known for cultivation of Prunus spp. (or stone fruits). It is both a centre of origin and diversity of the stone fruits. Numerous wild species as well as many cultivars and landraces of these fruit crops are important genetic resources today in Iran and can be used for improvement and breeding of scion and rootstock cultivars which are resistant to many biotic and abiotic stresses through modern genomics and genetic technologies. This paper discusses the distribution, ethno-botany, diversity and utilization of wild and domesticated genetic resources of stone fruits including almond (Prunus dulcis (Miller) D. A. Webb.), peach and nectarine (P. persica Batsch), European and Japanese plum (P. × domestica L., and P. salicina L., respectively), sweet and sour cherry (P. avium L., and P. cerasus L., respectively), and apricot (P. armeniaca L.), all of which are members of the Rosaceae family. The goal of this paper is to highlight the importance of Iran as a main contributor to the diversity of Prunus genetic resources in the world, as well as, present major achievements regarding identification, collection, evaluation, conservation and utilization of this valuable genetic resource in Iran.  相似文献

Purpose

The aim of this work was to assess the concentrations of potentially toxic elements and to evaluate the soil quality of a typical Prosecco Denomination of Controlled and Guaranteed Origin vineyard of the Veneto region, NE Italy.

Materials and methods

Soil samples and leaves of Taraxacum officinale and Vitis vinifera were collected during spring–summer 2014. Element determination (Al, Cd, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mg, Mn, Ni, P, Pb, V, and Zn) were performed with ICP-OES after microwave digestion of samples. Soil quality was assessed via the biological soil quality (BSQ-ar) index. Lipid peroxidation test was performed to evaluate the vegetation oxidative stress, based on malondialdehyde (MDA) content via spectrophotometer.

Results and discussion

High concentrations of Al, Mg, and P were identified in soil, while high contents of Al, Cu, Fe, and Zn were found in V. vinifera leaves. The high concentrations in soil are probably due to agricultural activities, whereas those in leaves are probably due to atmospheric deposition and repeated use of foliar sprays in viticulture. The bioconcentration factor showed an effective transport of Cu, P, and Zn, from soil to leaf. The BSQ-ar values registered were similar to those obtained in preserved soils; hence, the biological class (VI) of these soils is high. The MDA content in T. officinale and V. vinifera leaves was below the reference value for T. officinale (2.9?±?0.2 μM), suggesting that the metal content did not stress the vegetation in the investigated site.

Conclusions

The MDA value for V. vinifera (1.1?±?0.7 μM) could be adopted as another control value for soil quality, which in our case is of “good quality.” Moreover, our results suggest that high concentrations of elements detected in the analyzed samples do not influence negatively the quality of soil, but a better agronomic management could improve soil quality in the studied area.
