Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) is a forage legume of renewed interest in western Canada, with equally weighted advantages and disadvantages. In agronomic attributes, sainfoin is, at best, equal in yield, crude protein content and persistence to alfalfa (Medicago sativa). Sainfoin is equally or more palatable than alfalfa to ruminants, with comparable levels of animal productivity per unit forage consumed. The advantages it has compared to alfalfa include the following: (a) mitigation of frothy bloat; (b) reduced ammonia emissions (more faecal nitrogen (N) and less urinary N); (c) equal or better N retention by ruminants; and (d) anthelmintic protection from intestinal parasites. These advantages may be attributed to the presence of condensed tannins (CT), in legumes such as sainfoin. Emphasis on agronomic characteristics in breeding programmes appears to have led to the inadvertent reduction in the efficacy of CT characteristics. Persistence of sainfoin appears to be dependent on minimal pressure from competing plants, harvest or grazing, and good growth conditions from mid‐summer into fall, allowing for adequate root reserves for survival. It is possible that judicious use of glyphosate in late season might lessen competition in that critical period as sainfoin is more glyphosate‐tolerant than alfalfa. Otherwise, sainfoin may be best considered a short‐lived forage and best adapted for early season harvest or grazing to eliminate the risk of bloat.  相似文献

Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.) is a perennial legume recently reappraised for some positive characteristics leading to highly satisfactory animal performance. Sainfoin’s characteristics may be partly explained by the presence of moderate levels of condensed tannins (CTs) able to protect dietary protein from microbial degradation in the rumen. Decreased CH4 emissions have been reported for ruminants consuming CT‐containing forage. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of CT content on the in vitro fermentation characteristics and kinetics and methane production of four samples of O. viciifolia cut at different phenological stages. Sainfoin hays and one sample of alfalfa hay were incubated at 39°C in anaerobiosis using the in vitro gas production technique. The chemical composition, tannin content and fermentation characteristics and kinetics of sainfoin samples were significantly affected by phenological stage. After 48 h, the CH4 production in sainfoin hays showed a tendency to increase with the advancement of phenological stage [from 38·6 to 49·8 mL g−1 of degraded organic matter (OM)]. The best period to cut sainfoin for hay making is between early and late flowering, when the forage combines high OM digestibility, low CH4 production and more efficient microbial fermentation.  相似文献

Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.) is one of the most drought-tolerant perennial legumes that can thrive in dry, alkaline soils. A 3-year study in the Central Anatolian Region of Turkey compared the persistence, productivity and nutritive value of sainfoin planted with nurse crops, namely Hungarian vetch (Vicia pannonica Crantz.) or triticale (× Triticosecale Wittm, ex A. Camus), at three seeding rates. Sainfoin and nurse crop emergence were significantly affected by the companion nurse crop, sowing rate and establishment year. The number of sainfoin plants at emergence was lower during a drier “bad” year (110 plant/m2) than in a “good” precipitation year (236 plant/m2). Triticale had a more negative impact on sainfoin growth than vetch. Planting nurse crops at high seeding rates (90 kg/ha) reduced the number of sainfoin seedlings as compared to the control, while the low seeding rate had little impact on sainfoin emergence. Planting sainfoin with triticale resulted in much greater yield exceeding 10 t/ha, but reduced the forage nutritive value compared to sainfoin monocultures and sainfoin–vetch mixtures. The seeding rate of the nurse crops during a dry year did not affect DM yield in the year of establishment nor in the following year. The findings of this study indicate that planting sainfoin with a nurse crop can substantially increase the DM yield in the year of establishment without yield penalties in the subsequent years, despite fewer established plants, as compared to sainfoin monocultures.  相似文献

The Asiatic oak weevil, Cyrtepistomus castaneus Roelofs (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is a nonnative defoliator of trees in the Fagaceae family in the United States but has not been studied on Castanea species in the southern Appalachian Mountains. Planted trees of Castanea dentata (Marsh.) Borkh. (Fagales: Fagaceae), Castanea mollissima Blume (Fagales: Fagaceae), and four hybrid breeding generations were evaluated in 2012 for insect defoliation and C. castaneus abundance and frequency. Defoliation was visually assessed throughout the growing season at two sites in the southern Appalachian Mountains (western North Carolina and eastern Tennessee). C. castaneus abundance and frequency were monitored on trees using beat sheets and emergence was recorded from ground traps. Asiatic oak weevils were more abundant and more frequently collected on American chestnut (Ca. dentata) and its most closely related BC3F3 hybrid generation than on the Asian species Ca. mollissima. In most months, C. castaneus colonization of hybrid generations was not significantly different than colonization of parental species. Frequency data for C. castaneus suggested that adults were distributed relatively evenly throughout the study sites rather than in dense clusters. Emergence of C. castaneus was significantly higher under a canopy dominated by Quercus species than under non-Quercus species or open sky. C. castaneus emergence began in May and peaked in late June and early July. These results may be useful for resource managers trying to restore blight-resistant chestnut to the Southern Appalachians while minimizing herbivory by insect pests.  相似文献

Heilipus lauri Boheman (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a specialist pest of avocado fruit and is considered an incursion risk for U.S. avocado producers. At the time work reported here was undertaken the flight capabilities of H. lauri were unknown. Consequently, proactive studies were undertaken to quantify aspects of this pest’s flight capabilities to inform potential future control efforts. Flight mill studies were conducted in a quarantine laboratory to measure the dispersal capacity of H. lauri with respect to gender, mating status, and size on the single and repeat flight capabilities of weevils. Gender, mating status, and size did not significantly affect measured flight parameters. Average total distances flown and flight velocity, and mean maximum flight bout distances and durations significantly declined as weevil age increased and when weevils engaged in repeat flights. Survivorship rates were significantly reduced as the number of successive flights undertaken increased. The distribution of total average flight distances flown and total cumulative flight distances flown was platykurtic. The implications of these findings are discussed in terms of developing incursion management plans.  相似文献

The rice water weevil (RWW), Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus (Kuschel) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is the most destructive insect pest of rice in the United States. Water-seeded rice, which is flooded at an earlier stage of crop development than drill-seeded rice, is at heightened risk of loss from root-feeding RWW larvae. Pyrethroids, the most widely used group of foliar insecticides for RWW control, have inherent limitations such as limited residual activity, narrow window of activity and extreme toxicity to non-target aquatic organisms. An array of field, lab and greenhouse experiments was conducted to compare the activity of two neonicotinoids with that of λ-cyhalothrin, a widely used pyrethroid, against the RWW. Small-plot efficacy trials were conducted during 2009, 2010 and 2011. Foliar clothianidin (Belay 2.13 SC) and a granular formulation (3%) of dinotefuran applied to plots were as effective as, and showed greater residual activity than, foliar applications of λ-cyhalothrin. Topical bioassays on adult weevils revealed that clothianidin possessed lower contact toxicity than λ-cyhalothrin. Residual assays using weevils placed on foliage of sprayed plots revealed that the toxic and sublethal behavioral effects of clothianidian on adult weevils were more persistent for clothianidin than for λ-cyhalothrin. Granular dinotefuran applied to greenhouse-grown plants previously infested with weevil larvae showed excellent larvicidal activity. Overall, these studies showed that neonicotinoids have potential as pyrethroid replacements against the RWW in water-seeded rice culture.  相似文献

Herbivorous insects can demonstrate great selectivity among visual cues. The cabbage seedpod weevil, Ceutorhynchus obstrictus (Marsham) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) (syn. Ceutorhynchus assimilis (Paykull)) is also influenced by visual cues. Here, we present results of a study examining the attractiveness of flowers and foliage of Sinapis alba (a suboptimal host for larval development), Brassica napus (an excellent host for larval development) and novel lines derived from S. alba x B. napus; several of these have been demonstrated to be resistant in field and laboratory tests. Attractiveness, reflectance properties and resistance demonstrated in field trials were related. Responses to host plants differed among plant genotypes and were related to the amounts of UV and yellow reflected from flowers. Moderate UV reflectance greatly increased the attractive effects of yellow. Fewer weevils responded to test plants with greater or lesser floral UV reflectance.  相似文献

The rice water weevil, Lissorhoptrus oryzophilus Kuschel (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), is the most injurious insect pest in US rice production. Yield losses in excess of 25% can occur from severe infestations. Management demonstrations were conducted in the 2008, 2009, 2010, and 2011 growing seasons to evaluate the use of commercially available insecticides to control L. oryzophilus in commercial rice fields. The demonstration tests, conducted on farms throughout Louisiana, compared the efficacies of recently registered seed treatment insecticides to untreated controls and to foliar applications of pyrethroids. Efficacy was assessed by collecting root/soil core samples three to four weeks after application of permanent flood and counting numbers of larvae and pupae in core samples. Tests were replicated across locations in multiple rice-producing Louisiana parishes. Densities of larvae and pupae in core samples exceeded the larval threshold (three larvae or pupae per core sample) in over 80% of untreated plots/cuts, confirming the ubiquity and severity of this insect as a pest of rice. Use of chlorantraniliprole (Dermacor® X-100, DuPont™ Crop Protection, Wilmington, DE), thiamethoxam (CruiserMaxx® Rice, Syngenta® Crop Protection, Greensboro, NC), and clothianidin (NipsIt Inside®, Valent® USA Corporation, Walnut Creek, CA) seed treatments significantly reduced L. oryzophilus infestation compared to untreated checks. Fewer larvae and pupae were observed in rice treated with chlorantraniliprole than in rice treated with other insecticides.  相似文献

Two series of laboratory bioassays were carried out in order to evaluate the effect of the simultaneous presence of two insect species inside the experimental vials and the effect of different sizes (50, 65, 90, 145 mm in diameter) of experimental vials on the efficacy of diatomaceous earth (DE) formulations as wheat (Triticum durum Desf.) protectants. Three DE formulations were tested; Insecto, SilicoSec and one DE enhanced with pyrethrum, PyriSec. In a third series of bioassays the influence of application technique of DE formulations in wheat and maize (Zea mays L.) on their insecticidal efficacy was also evaluated in the laboratory. Two DE formulations were tested; SilicoSec and Protect-It. The application technique was based on the duration of admixing (0.5 or 3 min) and surface treatment (without admixing) of DE formulations in grain. In all series of bioassays three species were tested; Sitophilus oryzae (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrychidae) and Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae). Significant differences were noted in mortality levels of the tested species among the three DE formulations and among doses for the simultaneous presence of two insect species in all combinations and the different size of vials. In contrast, no significant differences were found in the mortality levels among the adult densities of any of the insects tested. The progeny production was low for all tested species. The increase of diameter of vials used in the bioassays decreased the mortality of S. oryzae and T. confusum adults significantly whereas no significant differences were noted for R. dominica adults. The increase of dose and exposure interval reduced differences of R. dominica adult mortality in admixture durations in the case of wheat. For S. oryzae, no significant differences in adult mortality in maize were found among admixture durations while significant differences were detected in wheat.  相似文献

The red palm weevil, Rhynchophorus ferrugineus (Olivier) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) is a highly destructive pest of date palms, Phoenix dactylifera L. (Arecales: Arecaceae), in Saudi Arabia. Data spanning a six year period (2007–2012) from Al Ghowaybah, a 1104 ha date producing region in the Al Ahsaa Directorate in Saudi Arabia, were analyzed to assess the impact enhanced management efforts that commenced in Oct. 2009 had against this pest. Within six months of initiating the areawide management program significant reductions in the mean monthly number of weevils trapped and percentage traps with R. ferrugineus were detected. Mean monthly trap captures of R. ferrugineus and the percentage of traps capturing weevils declined significantly from 2009 to 2012 by an average of 65% and 90%, respectively, indicating that trapping and dispersal pressure was significantly reduced. By 2011, average monthly trap captures and percentage of traps with R. ferrugineus were significantly lower than all pre-management capture data and this was maintained through 2012 when data collection ceased. Additionally, over the period 2010–2012, insecticide application and palm eradication rates dropped by 91% and 89%, respectively. The total number of R. ferrugineus captured in 2012 declined by 86% when compared to total captures for 2010. At the end of 2012, the estimated infestation rate of date palms in Al Ghowaybah was 0.36%, which was below the economic threshold of a 1% infestation rate set by the Directorate of Agriculture supervising the program. It is concluded that the mandatory areawide management program that commenced in Oct. 2009 against R. ferrugineus in Al Ghowaybah had a significant and rapid impact against this pest.  相似文献

Beef cattle are major contributors of enteric methane (CH4) emissions in Canada. Feeding forages containing condensed tannins (CT) has been suggested as a means of reducing enteric CH4 emissions and improving production efficiency. Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) is one of the CT‐containing legumes, which has also been recognized to have several additional beneficial properties. This study compared sainfoin silage (SS) and lucerne (Medicago sativa) silage (LS) with respect to animal performance, enteric CH4 production, abundance of selected rumen microbes and selected serum parameters in yearling steers during a Canadian winter. Sainfoin silage in our study contained approximately 12 g CT kg?1 dry matter (DM), a level which did not adversely affect silage palatability as steers fed SS experienced higher DM intake. However, animals fed LS and SS had similar body weight gain over the course of the trial. Feeding SS resulted in lower blood urea nitrogen concentrations and relative abundance of methanogenic archaea in rumen fluid. Yet, microbial population shifts fell short of exerting significant influence on enteric CH4 emissions. This study suggests that under western Canadian growing and animal‐rearing conditions, sainfoin is not yet competitive with lucerne forage with respect to enteric CH4 emissions or animal productivity warranting further research and development.  相似文献

Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) is a temperate legume that contains condensed tannins (CT), i.e., polyphenols that are able to bind proteins and thus reduce protein degradation in the rumen. Few studies have investigated the relation between plant phenology, CT characteristics and nutritive value of sainfoin. In this study we investigated differences among three sainfoin varieties (Esparcette, Ambra and Villahoz) that were of different geographical origin, and which were cultivated at the same site over the course of two growth cycles and compared with a tannin‐free legume, lucerne (Aubigny). Plants were harvested on nine dates in the first and four dates in the second growth cycle. Phenological stages were analysed for leaf‐to‐whole‐plant ratio, nitrogen (N), organic matter digestibility (OMd) by the pepsin‐cellulase method, cell‐wall concentration, N solubility (solN) plus CT concentration, biological activity and structures. Leaf‐to‐whole‐plant, cell‐wall concentration, N of sainfoin and lucerne were closely related to the phenological stage. Although sainfoin developed earlier than lucerne, its pepsin‐cellulase digestibility was higher than or close to lucerne. Esparcette had the lowest OMd, N and solN and the highest CT concentration. CT concentration, proportion of prodelphinidins (PD) and mean degree of polymerization (mDP) increased with the phenological stage (or plant maturity), and these parameters were associated with lower biological activity of CT. Sainfoin varieties differed in their relationships between phenological stages, nutritional parameters and CT characteristics. The results demonstrated that sainfoin can be a valuable alternative forage legume to lucerne.  相似文献

Seeds of sainfoin ( Onobrychis viciifolia Scop.), alfalfa ( Medicago sativa L.) and Astragalus adsurgens Pall. were put into and recovered from earth orbit from China in 1994. The isoenzymes in leaves and flowers and amino acids in leaves of the first post-flight generation of plants were analysed. Germination of their seeds under NaCl and polyethylene glycol (PEG) stress were tested. The results showed that space flight caused some changes in the pattern of peroxidase and esterase in sainfoin and A. adsurgens , and variation in amylase patterns in leaves of alfalfa. The total amino acid content increased in sainfoin and alfalfa leaves. Under salt and water stress, the proportion of progeny seeds of alfalfa and A. adsurgens , respectively, germinating after 7 and 18 days' imbibition was not markedly different between treatment and control. However, the progeny seeds of sainfoin which had been in orbit exhibited higher tolerance to NaCl and PEG stress during germination.  相似文献

Tests were conducted on Ceutorhynchus trimaculatus F. (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), a candidate for introduction from Europe into North America, for the biological control of Carduus thistles which are major weeds in pastures, rangeland and interstate highway embankments. Host specificity tests conducted simultaneously in Blacksburg, Virginia and in Albany, California were to determine whether Cirsium species native to the USA, and considered to be endangered species, are acceptable as hosts to the weevil, and if there is any preference for the Cirsium over the Carduus thistle species. In Virginia, three Cirsium species were compared with Carduus thoermeri Weinmann (musk thistle) and, in California, four Cirsium species were compared with Carduus macrocephalus L. Adult weevils fed on all test species, to a greater extent on musk thistle than on the Cirsium spp. except for Cirsium discolor (Muhl.) Spreng. which was preferred to musk thistle. Cirsium arvense (L.) Scop., Cirsium discolor and musk thistle supported oogenesis of Ceutorhynchus trimaculatus, but the greatest number of eggs was in musk thistle. Ovipositional preference was also shown for musk thistle over the Cirsium spp. in comparison tests using leaf bouquets, although no distinct preference for oviposition on rosettes was found. Besides musk thistle, both Cirsium occidentale (Nutt.) Jepson and Cirsium brevistylum Cronq. supported development from first instar to the adult stage. These results indicate that several of the Cirsium species tested are acceptable as hosts of Ceutorhynchus trimaculatus under caged conditions. However, musk thistle was preferred for feeding, oogenesis and oviposition.  相似文献

Tomicus brevipilosus (Eggers) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae, Scolytinae) was recently discovered as a new pest of Yunnan pine (Pinus yunnanensis Franchet) in Yunnan Province in southwestern China. However, little was known on its reproductive biology and pattern of trunk attack on Yunnan pine. The objectives of this study were to better understand the reproductive biology of T. brevipilosus by investigating the seasonality of trunk attacks by parent adults for the purpose of reproduction (i.e., breeding attacks) and the within-tree pattern of these attacks. Our results showed that T. brevipilosus breeding attacks in P. yunnanensis generally started in early March and ended in early June in Anning County, Yunnan. T. brevipilosus exhibited two general patterns of infestation. From early March to mid-April, T. brevipilosus bred preferentially in the trunks of Yunnan pine trees that were already infested by Tomicus yunnanensis Kirkendall and Faccoli and Tomicus minor (Hartig), colonizing spaces along the trunk (mostly in the mid- and lower trunk) that were not already occupied by the other two Tomicus species. Later, from about mid-April to early June, when there were no Yunnan pine trees newly infested by T. yunnanensis and T. minor, T. brevipilosus attacked Yunnan pine by itself, infesting the lower parts of the trunk first and then infesting progressively upward along the trunk into the crown. Infestation by T. brevipilosus extends the total period that P. yunnanensis trees are under attack by Tomicus beetles in southwestern China, which helps explain why Yunnan pine has suffered high levels of tree mortality in recent decades.  相似文献

High levels of pyrethroid resistance and emerging organophosphate resistance in Brazilian populations of the maize weevil Sitophilus zeamais (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) led to the registration of esfenvalerate + fenitrothion against them. Thus, a survey of physiological and behavioural resistance was carried out in 27 insect populations for two pyrethroids, esfenvalerate and permethrin, and the esfenvalerate + fenitrothion mixture. Physiological resistance to fenitrothion was also assessed, as was the potentiation of the mixture. The potential fitness cost associated with insecticide resistance was also investigated. The resistance levels were low to fenitrothion (<14.1-fold), low to moderate to the pyrethroids (1.6–70.0-fold) and low to the pyrethroid-organophosphate mixture (<5-fold) with a high heterogeneity of response among populations. The potentiation of insecticidal activity achieved with the insecticide mixture was very high (>350-fold) reinforcing its usefulness for managing weevils. There was little variation in walking behaviour (and insecticide avoidance) among populations; there was no significant variation in fitness, body mass and respiration rate among the populations of the insect. These however, displayed variable rates of grain consumption and activity of amylase and lipase. A decrease in insecticide resistance in maize weevil populations was observed relative to previous studies, but with an initial development of resistance to the insecticide mixture. Behavioural and physiological resistance were not correlated and not associated with fitness cost. Our results support the use of esfenvalerate + fenitrothion against the maize weevil, which is likely to have reduced the levels of pyrethroid resistance in field populations. However, resistance to this mixture seems to be evolving, justifying concerns regarding its use.  相似文献

Little is known about the intercropping of perennial legumes with annual cereals although intercropping system is widely applied and studied. The main objective of this study was to determine the aboveground biomass yield and interspecific competitiveness in an intercropping system of alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) with corn (Zea mays L.). A 3-year (2007-2009) field experiment was conducted, including four intercropping patterns by alternating alfalfa and corn row ratios of 2:2, 3:2, 4:2 and 5:2. Mono-cultured corn and alfalfa were used as the control. The biomass yield of alfalfa was measured at early blooming, whereas that of corn was at physiological maturity. Competitiveness indices examined were land equivalent ratio (LER), aggressivity (A), relative crowding coefficient (K values) and competitive ratio (CR). The biomass yields of mono-cultured alfalfa and all intercropping patterns increased each year. In all years, the 5:2 intercropping pattern always displayed a biomass yield advantage based on greater LER values. Alfalfa had higher relative crowding coefficients (K values), CR, and A values than corn. The intercropping of alfalfa with corn had yield advantages compared to alfalfa or corn monoculture. The intercropping pattern of 5:2 (alfalfa:corn row ratio) was an optimal pattern in our study. Alfalfa was the superior competitor when grown with corn, and its productivity dominated the total biomass yields. Thus, intercropping of alfalfa with corn has the potential to improve performance with high land-use efficiency.  相似文献

Diatomaceous earth (DE) deposits from regions of central and southeastern Europe were evaluated for their insecticidal efficacy against Sitophilus oryzae (L.) (Coleoptera: Curculionidae), Rhyzopertha dominica (F.) (Coleoptera: Bostrychidae) and Tribolium confusum Jacquelin du Val (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae) in comparison with the commercially available DE formulation SilicoSec. The effects of temperature, RH, grain commodity (wheat, barley, maize, rice), application method (spraying vs. dusting) were evaluated. FYROM, a DE from the Former Yugoslavian Republic of Macedonia, was the most effective of the DE deposits for grain treatment, whereas the least effective was from Greece (named Crete). However, for surface treatment, Slovenia was the most effective followed by Elassona 1 and Begora. Increase of temperature increased DE efficacy, while the reverse was noted with the increase of RH. Furthermore, the DEs were more effective in barley or wheat than in maize or rice. Neither the mined DEs nor SilicoSec were able to suppress progeny production of the tested species after previous exposure on the treated commodities. Generally, dust application of DEs was more efficacious than spraying against S. oryzae and T. confusum. However, spraying of wheat significantly reduced the bulk density (test weight) compared to dusting. For surface treatment, after 1 d of exposure, Slovenia was the most effective of the mined DEs followed by Elassona 1 and Begora, whereas after 6 d of exposure the mortality was almost complete (>99%) with all three DEs. More than 6 d of exposure were required for an effective control of T. confusum adults with the remainder of the mined DEs.  相似文献

The alfalfa leafcutting bee Megachile rotundata Fabricius (HYMENOPTERA: Megachilidae) is an important pollinator for multiple agricultural seed commodities in the United States. M. rotundata is a solitary cavity nesting bee that forms brood nests where its larvae can develop. During the developmental stages of growth, brood can be preyed upon by multiple different fungal pathogens and insect predators and parasitoids, resulting in the loss of the developing larvae. Larval loss is a major concern for alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) seed producers because they rely on pollination services provided by M. rotundata. Reduced pollination rates result in lower yields and increased production costs. In the present study, we examined the taxonomic composition of organisms found within M. rotundata brood cells using a multiplex PCR assay which was developed for the detection of bacterial, fungal, and invertebrate pests and pathogens of M. rotundata larvae. Known pests of M. rotundata were detected, including members of the fungal genus Ascosphaera, the causative agent of chalkbrood. The presence of multiple Ascosphaera species in a single brood cell was observed, with potential implications for chalkbrood disease management. The multiplex assay also identified DNA from more than 2,400 total species, including multiple predators and pathogenetic species not previously documented in association with M. rotundata brood cells.  相似文献

Trapping tests were performed concurrently in several countries of Central and Southern Europe throughout the spring and summer of 2008, to study the selectivity and performance of floral attractant-baited traps developed for catching Epicometis (Tropinota) hirta Poda (CA-baited traps), Cetonia a. aurata L./Potosia (Protaetia) cuprea Fabr. (ME-baited traps) or Oxythyrea funesta Poda (PH-baited traps) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Cetoniinae). Amongst the species caught, E. hirta showed strongest attraction to the CA-baited and ME-baited traps. O. funesta was mostly caught by PH-baited traps. In capturing C. a. aurata and P. cuprea, the ME-baited trap appeared to be the most efficient. At two sites in Italy, a related scarab, Tropinota squalida Scop. (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Cetoniinae), was attracted in similar numbers to both CA-baited and ME-baited traps. For the scarab Valgus hemipterus L. (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae, Valginae), ME-baited traps proved to be the most attractive.  相似文献
