Abstract:The vertical distribution of the underground phytomass in sainfoin grassland presented progressive two-T pattern and its seasonal fluctuation expressed monovally curve. The maximum phytomass 1795.27g / m~2dry matter (DM) or 1362.59g / m~2organic matter (OM) occurred early in October. The net primary productivity of underground was 813.73g / m~2. Yr DM or 484.24g / m~2. yr OM. The majoy environmental factors that limited the growth of underground phytomass were the soil temperature, ambient temperature and soil moisture. Conversion efficiency of the underground part for total solar radiation, and for physiological radiation were 0.153% and 0.313% respectively, and for photosynthetically available radiation during the growth season was 0.408%.
