| Abstract: | Tetracylines are the important class antibiotics and widely used in many countries worldwide to treat disease and protect the health of animals.They are also added at subtherapeutic levels to animal feed to prevent infection and act as growth promoters.Frequent use of tetracyline antibiotics has also raised concerns about increased antibiotic resistance of microorganisms and occurrence in the environment.This paper summarized the latest information available in the literature on the environmental residue,transport,transformand antibiotic resistance of tetracyline antibiotics.The review focused on the behavior of tetracyline antibiotics in environment.Recognising the importance and the growing debate,the issue of antibiotic resistance due to the frequent use of tetracyline in food-producing animals were also briefly covered. |
