| Abstract: | Progresses of walnut production and scientific research in 14 countries are reported. Walnut has been.considered a valuable species both for nut and wood. Large scale genetic improvement of walnut has rapidly made a mighty advance in Europe and Asia. Hundreds of cultivars with high productivity and nut's quality were released recently. The new objective of walnut improvement is to obtain cultivers resistant to main diseases of walnut (blackline, blight, nemtode). Horticulturists are interested in walnut tissue which might start a new revolution of walnut propagation, and primary success.has been achieved. The method of isozyme(6-PGD, MDH, PGM, SDH) is useful to identify physiological and bio-chemical characteristics of different walnut genetype resources. Mechanization of walnut havesting and handling is realized in advanced countries. On the basis of the development of walnut production in the world.the author makes some suggestions for walnut production in China. |
