Abstract:The author dwells on the history, status and problems of fertilizer application in 6 aspects: effect of nutritional diagnosis technique on the growth of seedlings, effect of NPK on the growth of seedlings, effect of NPK in different ratio on the growth of seedlings, the relationship between different fertilizers and the growth of seedlings, rational application rate and the application date of NPK. The author avers that fertilizer application in nursery beds should be researched in the following 6 aspects: researches on the regularity of annual growth of seedlings and the nutrient requirements(absorption dynamics) at different growth stages which are important in guiding the fertilizer application and in promoting the effect of fertilizer application; researches on the impending problem in finding out a labor-saving method of fertilizer application that is effective in promoting the nutrient utilization and the effect of fertilizer application; emphasis on applying organic fertilizer in nursery management to avoid soil compaction and deterioration of physical and chemical properties of soil over many years of chemical fertilizer application; keeping technical files of nursery in accordance with soil condition, tree species and sort of seedlings; using computer to monitor and predict the status of nutrients in seedlings and soil in guiding fertilizer application; relating the research on fertilizer application to that on the survival rate of seedlings in planting and the growth of young stands; emphasis on reseraches of the symptoms due to deficit of microelements and lack of an effective remedy.
