海南石灰岩生态系统的蝙蝠

Bats of Hainan's limestone ecosystems

A series of brief bat surveys in Hainan from 2001 to 2005, focusing on limestone areas, is reported. Seventeen species were recorded, including one unidentified Murina sp. While taxonomic difficulties prevent firm identification in some genera, the current provincial total is around 33 bat species. Most of the Hainan bat fauna is at least partially associated with caves, and limestone areas provide important refuges for them. Due to various threats, including capture for consumption, and cave damage through mining and tourism, most bats are likely to be threatened in Hainan, and one-third of species are considered Vulnerable to extinction in China. Strict protection of bats and habitats, and more comprehensive study, are urgently needed if Hainan is to retain this major component of its mammal fauna.
