义元理论的认知观及其对国内英语教学的启示

摘    要:在简单介绍自然语义元语理论后,从认知语言学的角度对其主要观点进行阐述,进而指出其对国内英语教学的启示。英语作为第二语言的教学(TESL)的过程是英语语言系统构建的过程。自然语义元语理论试图从有限的语义基元出发对语言系统进行解构,对该解构过程的了解使我们有可能理清语言系统中语言形式、概念、内容相互之间的联系及理据,这使得自然语义元语理论对英语作为第二语言的教学具有不可替代的指导作用。支持外语教学的语言理论及相应的教学方法,应该尽可能反映客观世界、人的认知和社会文化对语言系统的影响,符合语言产生、发展、形成和使用过程中人的认知心理。自然语义元语言理论及其受其影响的教学方法就基本符合这样的要求。

Abstract:After introducing natural semantic metalanguage theory (NSMT) briefly, this paper expa- tiates on its rationality from the persperctive of cognitive linguistics and the inspiration from it for teach- ing English as a second language (TESL), which is a process of constructing the English langauge linguistic system. NSMT tries to deconstruct a langauge system depending on numbered semantic prim- itives. If this process of deconstructing is understood, there is possibility to make clear the relation- ship (motivation) between the linguistic forms, notions and contents, which makes NSMT un-re- placeable in guiding TESL. Linguistic theory supporting a language teaching method and the method itself should reflect the influence of the outsideworld, hunman beining's cognition and social culture on language, and must tally with the cognitive mentality that accompanies the emergence, development, formation and use of a language. Nowadays, NSMT and the teaching methods deriving from it are qualified to act such a role.
