Abstract:A newly bred japonica late maturing PGMR 31111S was tested with different seedingtime in 1988 (normal climate) and 1989(abnormal climate), respectively. In long dayseason, more than 1000 plants were observed each year. All plants were sterile andthe average bagged seed sterility and pollen sterility were 100% and>99.5% respectively.The heading period when plants showed stable sterility was more than 30 days. In shortday season, the natural seed setting rate reached 50% or more. The results indicate31111S is a typical photoperiod sensitive male sterile line. Using as a female parent, 31111S was crossed with 6 wide compatible varieties.Standard heterosis of grain yield ranging from 11.36% to 69.01% over a check varietyE-yi 105 were observed. 31111S/B5580AI-15(japonica/javanica)has the highest grainyield heterosis.
