The Efficiency of Three Experimental Designs for Forest Tree Breeding

Abstract:Based on the investigation of the experimental plantations of 11 year old Populus tomentosa Carr.on Wenxian Forest Farm ,Henan Province,the analysis of variance (ANOVA) forthree designs were compared. The results showed that the experimental efficiencies reached the maximum when the numbers of Latin square design (LSD) ,blocks of randomized complete block design (RCBD) and replications ofcompletely random design (CRD) were 3 ,8 and 7 re spectively. When the number of LSD was less than 3 ,the ANOVAfor CRD was more precise than thatof LSDor RCBD,but when the number was morethan 3,the LSDwas more precise. In orderto getexperimentalresultseconomically and confidentlyforforesttree breedingin asimi lar condition,3 Latin square numbers,atleast 5 randomized complete blocks and 4 completely random replicationsarerecom mended .
