Abstract:A study was conducted to determine the effects of moisture gradient on the growth and antioxidase activity of Houttuynia cordata to develop an ecological cultivation pattern.Eight different water treatments,control,heavy drought,moderate drought,light drought,light moisture,moderate moisture,heavy moisture,and waterlogging,were designed to simulate the dynamic change of soil water moisture in natural habitat of H.cordata under forest conditions.Results showed that moisture gradient had a significant influence on the growth and antioxidase activity(P<0.05).Compared with the control,a decrease or an increase in moisture could restrain biomass accumulation,plant height,and leaf area index.Heavy drought significantly elevated the root to shoot ratio.The antioxidase activity under moist conditions was lower than that under drought conditions,especially under waterlogging conditions.The CAT activity significantly increased under drought conditions,while it changed little under moist conditions.The POD activity declined under light drought and light moisture conditions,indicating a relative tolerance to a certain extent of drought and moisture,while SOD activity and MDA content were sensitive to different moisture gradients.Although H.cordata could grow under heavy drought,heavy moisture or waterlogging conditions,it was strongly inhibited by water stress.Light drought and light moisture conditions are favorable for the cultivation of H.cordata.
