Abstract:An experiment was conducted to study the alkaline phosphatase in the soils of young plantations of Platycladus orientalis. Result shows that the activity of alkaline phosphatase changes greatly with thinning intensity and season varying. The activity of alkaline phosphatase is the highest in the heavy thinning treatment at soil depth of 0 - 10 cm, and it is the highest in the heavy thinning and moderate thinning treatments at soil depth of 10 -20 cm. The activity of alkaline phosphatase for the treatment of moderate thinning changes obviously with varying season, and it is higher than the other treatments in June. The activities of alkaline phosphatase for the treatments of heavy thinning, moderate thinning and weak thinning in August are all higher than that of the control. Variance analysis shows that there are notable differences in the activity of alkaline phosphatase between the treatments of moderate thinning, heavy thinning and the control, and the heavy thinning is more favorable to soil melioration. The appropriate stand density for Platycladus orientalis plantations should be about 3 400 stems per hectare.
