古人云桑之利民与菽粟等,不管是以桑椹作为灾难时刻救荒之物,抑或是以桑叶养蚕抽丝做绢绸为奢华商利,桑之重要均不言而喻。而以"叶厚大而疏,多津液,少葚,饲蚕蚕大,得丝多"著名的湖桑却争议不断,这里试图结合文献记载从种植技术、社会政治经济需求等方面对其起源略作探讨。
