Knowledge Economy and Agricultural Modernization in China

This paper illustrates the connotation and characteristic of modern agriculture. The author emphasizes the necessity of arming agriculture with knowledge, including production element intellectualization, information universalizing in economic activities, popularization of farming products with high grade, efficient use of resources and capital; sustainable development of environment and economy. The author also suggests that farmer, rural area and agriculture should be integrated as a whole; agricultural modernization, rural industrialization, rural urbanization, farmer learning and training should synchronized; agricultural production, life of farmers and ecological environment should codevelop. The strategic tasks for agricultural modernization in China in the 21st century is that taking the road of modern integrated sustainable agriculture, devote major efforts to develop knowledge agriculture, ensure the efficient supply of agricultural products; enhance farmer's welfare, innovate management system of farming and speed up the reform of economical system in rural area
