Memory and Its Construction: The Creative Theme of Linhuai Clay Sculpture and Huaihe Rural Society

Linhuai clay sculpture is a folk handicraft in the rural society on the south bank of the Huaihe River. The production and life of Huaihe rural society provides a rich creative theme for Linhuai clay sculpture.With Linhuai clay sculpture as the material cultural medium, and from the perspective of individual and social memory, the unique cultural landscape of Huaihe rural society is jointly constructed, which displays the rural society and children''s growth, festival activities, and the simple and natural daily life as the theme of individual memory. The theme of social memory consists in the spirit of governing the Huaihe River, the standpoint of the people, and the love for home and motherland. The above themes enrich the cultural connotation of Linhuai clay sculpture, and thus reflect the diverse and eclectic aspect of Huaihe culture. Therefore, this research is of important theoretical significance and practical value for the dissemination of non-material culture in West Anhui.
