钱起涉病诗探微

A Study on the Disease-Related Poems of Qian Qi

Qian Qi''s poems have the common faults of the poems of the "Ten Talents of Dali Period", such as lack of spirit and bone, often having good sentences but no good poems, and so are his ten disease-related poems. Influenced by the atmosphere of poetry creation in the Mid-Tang Dynasty, the scope of his disease-related poems is relatively small, with the main topics concerning different mentalities in official career, visits of friends in his illness, the leisure due to illness, etc. These poems often refer to his own experiences in illness, revealing his self-pity and retiring mood due to illness. Unlike Du Fu''s disease-related poems, Qian Qi''s works have not risen to a grander disease narrative to express the pain of the nation and the people, thus can only be regarded as plain works with a leisurely and natural flavor.
