Abstract:Three genotypes with different grain weight were used to study the relationships betweenendogenous hormones and starch accumulation in developing grains of wheat.Experimental results showedthat IAA level was significantly and positively related to starch accumulation rate(SAR)as well as activitiesof sucrose synthase and invertase during grain development.Great difference among genotypes in IAA andABA content was found during the mid-late phase of grain filling.Genotypes with higher IAA and ABAcontent manifested higher activities of sucrose synthase and invertase and faster SAR.Nevertheless,ABAcontent was not siginficantly related to SAR and sucrose synthase and invertase activities.Path coefficientanalysis indicated that the positive effect of IAA on assimilate inversion was much greater than that on assim-ilate transport during grain filling period of wheat.
