Abstract:Functional genomics refers to the development and application of global experimental approaches to assess gene function, gene expression profile, organism growth, development and metabolic regulation by making use of the information and reagents provided by structural genomics. It is characterized by high throughput experimental methodologies combined with statistical and computational analysis of the results. The fundamental strategies in investigation of gene function are from phenotype to gene and from gene to phenotype. Many large-scale experimental methods are used to induce mutation, identify and clone gene. For example: gene trap, studying methods of differential hybidrization-based gene expression, DNA chips, protein chips, etc. With advance of improvement and innovation of methodology, we believe that functional genomics will become the hot spot in the field of life science.
