Application of TOPMODEL - A Semi- Distributed Hydrologic Model

TOPMODEL （Topography MODEL） is a semi -distributed hydrologic model in which the hydrological cycle can be represented mathematically. The model is developed by Beven and Kirkby from University of Leeds in 1979. It has a simple conceptual basis with very few parameters that is convenient for operation. In recent years, the model has been improved continually which is suitable for implementation with Digital Elevation Model （DEM） and Geographical Information System （GIS）. Therefore, scholars at home and abroad started to use the model intensively. Through the literatures review, TOPMODEL is found to be used in various fields such as： model evaluation, climate and hydrologic systems, principle discussion, grid analysis, and disaster predictions, etc. This study is to describe the principle and application of TOPMODEL. By compiling related literature （2001 -2010）, the essay is to investigate the current status with the help of statistic analysis for references in future relevant studies.
