Spatial Variation of Soil Properties in Contour Hedgerow Intercropping System

Spatial variation of soil properties is a common phenomenon. However, rare research has been conducted for the contour hedgerow intercropping system. In this study, we investigate the effects of different agricultural measures on the spatial variation of soil properties at runoff plot scale planted with Vetiveria zizanioides hedgerow at the Wangjiaqiao Watershed in the Three Gorges Region. The results show that planting hedgerow reduces the spatial variation of 0.2 - 0. 002 mm fraction aggregates. Application of hedgerow ＋ organic fertilizer or hedgerow ＋ chemical fertilizer reduces the spatial variation of 〈 0. 002mm fraction aggregates. Hedgerow ＋ mulch reduces spatial variation of 0.2 - 0. 002 mm fraction aggregates. Planting hedgerow reduces the spatial variation of soil nutrients including organic carbon, total nitrogen, total phosphorus and available phosphorus. Fertilization measures, however, have different effects on the spatial variation of soil nutrients. Hedgerow ＋ organic fertilizer increase the spatial variation of total phosphorus and available phosphorus. Hedgerow ＋ chemical fertilizer increases the spatial variation of available potassium.
