Abstract:The aim is to study the biological control potential of Picromerus lewisi for Mythimna separata. The predation ability of the 5th instar nymphs of Picromerus lewisi on the 3rd to the 6th instar larvae of Mythimna separata was detected under the indoor condition. The results showed that the predation of the 5th instar nymphs of Picromerus lewisi on the 3rd to the 6th instar larvae of Mythimna separata accorded with Holling Ⅱ equation. The average maximum daily prey was the 3rd instar larva (24.390) > the 4th instar larva (7.042) > the 5th instar larva (6.061) > the 6th instar larva (3.690). The instantaneous attack rate was the 3rd instar larva (1.303)> the 4th instar larva (0.404)> the 5th instar larva (0.581)> the 6th instar larva (0.554). With the increase of the density of Mythimna separata at different instars, the searching efficiency of Picromerus lewisi 5th instar nymphs gradually decreased, and the searching efficiency for the 3rd instar larvae was the highest, and a/Th was 31.780. With the increase of the density of the 5th instar nymphs of Picromerus lewisi, the interference effect increased, and the intraspecific interference coefficient was 0.720. This study show that the 5th instar nymphs of Picromerus lewisi could prey on the 3rd to the 6th instar larvae of Mythimna separata, among which the predatory potential for the 3rd instar Mythimna separata is the largest.
