Clonal Forestry: A Global New Current of Industry Plantation

This paper is based on the newest literatures published in the world andgives a detailed review and brief discussion on the present status, the new achievements, major problems and the prospect of clonal forestry.The author looks into the developing tendencies of clonal forestry and points out that clonal forestry will become one of the important approaches to the future development of intensive industry plantation in theworld, because this new silviculture system offers many advantages of genetic and silviculture nature. The decision to use the clonal option will potentially effect all the genetic components of tree breeding stra-tegy. Finally, it concludes that more attention must be given in this field and clonal breeding research should be placed in an appropriate position in national research plan of forestry.
