Application of Nanotechnology to Wood Preservation

Abstract:Wood is mainly composed of lignin, cellulose, and hemicellulose. These components make the wood vulnerable to pests, bacteria and fungi. Many treatment methods have been developed to extend the service life of wood products, and nanomaterials have been gradually applied to the wood preservative field due to their low toxicity and economic cost. The paper summarizes the application of main nanomaterials to wood preservation and the approaches to promoting the application, and prospects the potential and development trend of introducing nanomaterials into the wood preservation research, aiming to provide references for wood preservation research.
