Tree Breeding for Photosynthetic Efficiency

Some recent results obtained in studying the genetic variability of photosynthetic rates in forest trees and its implications in breeding trees with better growth performance are discussed. Results are still scanty and difficult to interpret but point out to genetically based differences in photosynthesis in forest trees. These differences might be used in the future, in spite of the apparent complicated mode of inheritance of this physiological trait.
