Abstract:The semiarid region of Ningxia is referred to the mountainous district in Ningxia,which originally was grassland ecosystem. However, most of the area is reclaimed intofarmland now, and over 90 per cent of the arable land has been used for crop planting, so itis a typical grain ecosystem. Imperfect structure, poor function and deteriorative ecologicalenvironment are disadvantages of the system. During 1986-1990, the grassland agricultural ecosystem of soil, plant and livestockhad been established in Sidunzi Village of Yanchi County, in the north of loess plateau. Inthis area, the proportion of animal husbandry output value in the total agricultural outputvalue increased to 31% from 22%; the proportion of organic energy in the supplementaryenergy invested in farmland increased by as much as 71.48%; the total grain yields in-creased from 0.75 million Kg to 1 million Kg. It is proved that the major approach to pro-mote the agricultural production and animal nusbandry, and to extricate farmers from pov-erty is to establish the ecosystem of grassland agriculture.
