Abstract:
Objective] The present work was aimed to study the antiviral activity of Broussonetia papyrifera leaf extracts.[ Method] The MTT method was used to detect the effects of water, 75% ethanol and 50% acetone extracts of B.papyrifera leaf and different treatments on chick embryofibroblast( CEF) infected by newcastle disease virus ( NDV ) , infectious laryngotracheitis virus ( ILTV ) , infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) and infectious bursal disease virus(IBDV) respectively, to explore the antiviral activity and mechanism of B.papyrifera leaf extracts. [ Result] The result showed that the vitality of the NDV infected CEF was significantly increased owing to ethanol and acetone extracts supple-mented in the cell medium, the vitality of CEF infected by ILTV or IBV were also significantly improved by acetone extract addition, whereas the cytopathic effect induced by IBDV was not alerted by B.papyrifera leaf extracts. Moreover, the vitality of CEF pretreated by acetone ex-tract, followed by NDV or ILTV infection, tend to be higher than that of other treatments.[ Conclusion] It can be inferred that the effective components in the B.papyrifera extract may exert the antiviral effect by blocking virus recognition and adhesion to the host cells.
