Effects of different grain diets supplemented with enzymes on growth performance,digestion and fecal characteristics of puppies

This study was to evaluate the effects of different grain ingredients on growth performance,nutrient digestion and fecal characteristics of puppies fed with different grain ingredients instead of shredded rice.A total of 486-week-old teddy dogs with an average body weight of(661.51±3.55)g were divided into 3 groups with 4 replicates in each group and 12 dogs in each replicate.Puppies in the three groups were fed a broken rice diet(50%broken rice),a corn diet(50%corn)+200 mg/kg complex enzyme,and a sorghum diet(50%sorghum)+200 mg/kg complex enzyme,respectively,during the 5-week feeding trial.Results:Compared with broken rice group,corn and sorghum diet supplemented with compound enzyme significantly increased the body weight and daily gain of puppies(P<0.05).The ratio of feed to gain and constipation rate in broken rice group were significantly increased by 15.86%and 100%compared with corn group(P<0.05),and diarrhea rate was significantly increased by 99.39%and 136.96%compared with corn group and sorghum group(P<0.05),respectively.Corn and sorghum type diet supplement compound enzyme less broken rice group significantly reduced the puppy always apparent digestibility and crude fat(P<0.05),and the broken rice and corn group puppies apparent digestibility of crude protein is significantly higher than sorghum group(P<0.05),rice and sorghum group puppies apparent digestibility of dry matter was significantly higher than that of corn group(P<0.05).The pH value of feces in the broken rice group was significantly higher than that in the corn group(P<0.05),but there was no significant difference between the two groups(P>0.05),while the feces score in the broken rice group was significantly higher than that in the other two groups(P<0.05).The fecal lactic acid content of puppies in sorghum group was significantly higher than that in broken rice group and corn group(P<0.05),and the fecal volatile fatty acid concentration in corn group was significantly higher than that in broken rice group and sorghum group(P<0.05).Conclusion:the weight,daily gain and diarrhea rate of puppies were improved by maize and sorghum completely replacing broken rice and supplemented with complex enzyme.Although the digestibility of corn and sorghum diets was reduced,the addition of complex enzymes to the corn based diet not only reduced the rate of diarrhea but also constipation in puppies.
