Effect of Frego Bract Gene on Economic Properties of Cotton

Four near-isogenic lines of upland cotton, Gossypium hirsutum L., which carriedfrego bract (fg) vs. its normal-bract equivalents (Fg) in two backgrounds, were-grown in replicated experiments in two places in Hubei. 19 agronomic properties werestudied. Results showed that the frego near-isolines had the tendancy of increasingvegetative growth, with taller plants, more fruit nodes and bolls, smaller bolls,lower lint index and smaller seed thaftt their normal counterparts. The significantdidsrence between the two bract types was related to their backgrounds and experimentsites. The frego-braet gene had no significant effects on lint yield, lint percent, fruitbranches per plant, percent of bud and boll shedding, and lint properties.
