针对SO2污染对植被产生的影响，文章从微观和宏观两个方面论述了SO2污染对植被的多尺度影响。微观方面主要表现在改变了植被内部正常的生理机能。例如气孔张开和关闭速度的变化，酶的活性被破坏，细胞质膜透性随SO2浓度和作用时间的不同发生相应的变化。光合作用强度下降；宏观方面表现在干扰了植被正常的生长发育，使植物矮化、叶面积变小、授粉率下降及产量下降等现象发生，从而使植物生物量下降；由于不同植物对SO2污染的敏感性不同，使植被群落的结构发生变化。
