International Progress in Study of Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management

An introduction is given in this paper to the recent development of the idea of sustainable forest management in the world and to the definition,criteria and indicators of sustainable forest management,an attempt was also made to compare the criteria and indicators which had been established and carried out by different actions or organizations.The authour indicats that sustainable forestry development in China is a goal in relatively far future because forestry management system had not fully been developed yet so that market mechanism had not been able to promote forestry development,however,the further reformation of forestry system and development of market economy would bring about great future to the sustainable forestry development of China.Certainly,appropriate approaches will be developed to overcome problems encountered in the study of criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management,therefore,contribution will be made to the establishment and implementation of the international criteria and indicators.
