Progress and Perspectives of the Genome Sequencing in Wheat and Its Relatives

During last several years, a big progress and breakthrough have been made in the genome sequencing of wheat and its relatives along with the development of genome sequencing and assembling technologies. It will give rise to a new developmental opportunity for the research in wheat breeding. In this paper, we give a brief introduction about the background and importance of wheat genome sequencing, and review the progress obtained recently in the genome sequencing of wheat and its relatives. Finally, we prospect its future development and discuss the possible effects of the genome sequencing on wheat breeding.
