Abstract:Effect of supplement Ultraviolet-B(UV-B) radiation during different growth stages on yield potential and protein content were investigated by using Sasanishiki ( O.sativa L. subsp. japonica ), an UV-resistant cultivar from Japan as material. Differences in yield and yield components were not significant between the control and the UV-B treatments during the vegetative stage (from transplanting to panicle forming), reproductive stage (from panicle forming to heading) and flowering-ripening stage (from heading to ripening). It was found that the percentage of higher thick-sized brown rice tended to decrease due to UV-B radiation. The content of total N and protein in brown rice increased by supplement UV-B radiation during flowering-ripening stage. Among the components of protein, only the content of glutelin was increased significantly by UV-B treatment.
